So Baily took the baby out of the car AFTER Chance started walking away.
She took the baby out so the baby wouldn't be in the car by himself.
She contradicts herself, which is why law enforcement needs to get her statement analyzed by an expert.
"So, I just kinda went with it and was like okay cool, we’ll go home. So I drove to my grandparent’s in Gering, Nebraska, where we had been staying, and I went in to pack my bag. We pulled into the driveway, and he said, “No, I said I wanted to go home.” And I was like, “Yeah, just hold on. I’m gonna go grab our bags and we’ll leave. Well, he took off walking. And I ran the baby inside, and took him out of his car seat, handed him to my grandma, and ran back outside. And I started driving around looking for him. Several phone calls later, the rainstorm hit and I just never got him found.

This has bothered me since the beginning. I just don't get it.
And, I can't get past her asking for the death certificate and telling them not to hold his new job.
I don’t think it’s that big of a contradiction. If they originally didn’t have plans to leave, I could see someone saying grab my bags but meaning quickly throwing my crap in. It seems the same to me.
Every time I see this thread on page one of the new posts, I hope it’s because he’s been found. Sad.

Does anyone know if there is a focused, supported and funded effort to find a live Chance, similar to Matt's dedicated efforts to find his body? I know his missing poster has been shared all over but I can't find anything else.
But, is there any effort to follow up in person all of the reported sightings by people, because I assume LE is not doing that. I suppose they follow up by phone and if there is no photographic support for the sighting or proof other than the visual, they put it in a file.
I have asked before and I ask again has anyone approached LE for the towns and dates of the sightings to see if there is a pattern to be followed up on.

Maybe they are still investigating the people who were the last to communicate with Chance, this includes his wife's story about what happened.

Gering Police release updated information in Chance Englebert investigation
With assistance from the Scottsbluff Police Department, Scotts Bluff County Sheriff’s Office and Nebraska State Patrol, he said, investigators have been able to follow up on dozens of tips and information that have come in. Those three agencies continue to be involved with assisting in the investigation.
Investigators have also followed up on dozens of potential sightings of Chance in numerous states, including Colorado, Wyoming, South Dakota, Nebraska, Iowa, Kansas, Texas and Missouri. The law enforcement agencies in the jurisdictions where the potential sightings were reported have assisted in looking at video and other requests made of them. Reported sightings have not resulted in any useful information, Rogers said.
Rogers said the department continues to encourage anyone with information about the case to contact authorities. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Gering Police Department by calling the Scotts Bluff County Communications Center at 308-436-6666.
Joined this forum solely because of this disappearance. Have worked with and both in laws and continue to work with mother In law. We'll call father in law "J". J is a cool ass guy, but gets real wound up and confrontational over sime, innocuous things. I've been hoping like hell that the worst isnt true, but I live around and interact with their family and friends, and I promise you, this isnt a bug out and leave situation.
With that said (keeping personal opinion and the constant gossip aside), I believe everyone needs to recognize these 6 points...
1-willfully vanishing from existence in this era would be virtually impossible for this length of time for a person with some serious technical ability. As nice as Chance is, he is a welder and beer/football guy, not a "leav no trace" escape society type .
2-Weather- if you haven't grown up here, you wouldn't understand...we all grew up hunting, hiking, fishing, camping, etc...and Chance is the prototype of my point. I dont think most of you understand how absurd the rain storm/river drowning theory is. The only reason Matt was leading searches along water systems was because he feared someone dumped him there. He even spoke to my point about growing up living outdoor lifestyle, and that it's silly to think in severe weather, he would move in the direction of flood prone waters. This has been common knowledge since we started elementary school. Trust me, THIS.THEORY.IS.STUPID.
3-"IN-LAWS"... the argument with his wife's family has indeed been corroborated, and J (AS MENTIONED EARLIER), has a passion for ratcheting up tension with people he doesn't like. HOWEVER, this doesn't implicate him in anything other than an argument.
4-lawyering up- soon after the disappearance, the wife's family retained counsel, under the premise of legal care of his family, but have also denied willfully letting law enforcement search there premesis. Not to mention multiple death certificate requests within 2 weeks of the event.
5-disinterest-(solely opinion) there has been a shockingly lack of emotion from the wife in any interaction she has had publicly.
6-logic- rule of thumb: the vast majority of murder is done by people the victim knows very well. The authorities here (no disrespect) are still treating it as a missing person that disappeared willingly.

Welcome and thank you for sharing. I absolutely agree with you regarding the flooding and how unlikely that theory is, however, I think sometimes it’s easier to believe drowning instead of more sinister things. Especially in western Nebraska. I hope the family gets answers soon. I know it will probably not be the ones they want to hear but at least it may provide some closure. And I certainty hope the person responsible pays for what they have done. I cannot for the life of me understand why LE hasn’t been more aggressive in finding answer and the possibility of foul play. I suppose their hands are tied due to in laws lawyering up. Thank you again for the insight and information you have provided.
Appreciate your words. Keep in mind, Im only giving the opinion of a 38 year old ass that's lived his life in western nebraska, so take my opinions with a grain of salt. As a new guy here, the speculation seemed to go off the rails in so many directions, I only wanted to offer a post anchored in reason and logic.

The father in law being a wound up kind of guy supports there being an arguement. And with alcohol involved? It was probably a doozy.
The family lawyering up makes sense. They were being vilified on SM and probably other places as well.
The wife showing no emotion? Could be she's incredibly immature and young.
I grew up in Kansas and I do know how shallow, slow, and small moving rivers can quickly become a

Chance called his friend when he was out walking. This friend had to know what happened. Sounds like the friend could possibly be blaming "the family" for C's disappearance because then it lifts some responsibility for his "inaction" to pick Chance up. Did Chance tell his friend "Please pick me up! My in laws are out to get me and they want to harm me." Don't you think his buddy would have sounded the alarm with his folks as well? Surely he would have found a way to get his friend under those circumstances?
How are you theorizing that the in laws set out to find Chance, killed him, buried his body all before, after and during a torrential downpour? Sorry, but that makes no sense.
Maybe his buddy should search where a flooded Platte flows and not where he thinks C's body would have been dumped by "vengeful inlaws".

I agree the wife seems very young in her demeanor, which can seem inappropriate in such a somber situation. I remember one of the first press conferences where she was joggling the baby on her hip and moving around In a manner that transmitted nonchalance. It was distracting and looked inappropriate. I have always felt that the wife’s immaturity and lack of experience contributed to her immediate request for the death certificate. My opinion is that she parroted what she was told by her elders, who kept saying things like, “you know you won’t get his Social Security without a death certificate, right?”
I do hope that the many unanswered questions surrounding Chance’s disappearance are resolved for his family.

Lawyering up does nothing to stop the family from being vilified on social media. What it does do is make them look like they are not cooperating with LE because they do have something to hide which results in being vilified on social media. It is a viscous circle they chose to create.
Demanding LE search parties obtain a search warrant before allowing them to search private property also makes it appear there is something to hide. In rural areas, LE often ask private landowners to search their property and innocent landowners do it willingly.
My theory isn't all that complicated: the wife was po'd because her husband wanted to go home, she called her family and told them Chase had set out walking. The drunken fellas got into a vehicle, plowed Chase down and disposed of his body in the rapidly moving Platte River.
