NE NE - Jessica O'Grady, 19, Omaha, 10 May 2006

From the Google map standing bear lake is huge and there is a tranquilty park near his home that looks like an equally large uninhabited area. And Candlewood Lake looks closer to his house. Also there is a damn and river near by. So many areas. It seems to me he had 2-3 weeks to get rid of evidence. I hope he is more miserable by the day. The aunt should be held in jail on obstruction, I hate this for Jessica and her family.

To my way of thinking this twerp has two ways he can go with his story...he can either admit that he murdered Jessica and why or he can blame his aunt, stepmother and cousin. We know that the murder took place in that basement room of his. The evidence clearly shows that something horrible happened there. Someone who lives in that house murdered her. If it wasn't him it was a family member and I doubt if the family members had a reason to want her dead. I'll bet they would start talking if he tried to lay the blame on them!

I can't imagine what "his very human reaction...." is going to be. Can you imagine "but judge she told me she was pregnant with my baby and I told her to get an abortion and she wouldn't listen to me....so I killed her. I'm to young to be a father and there was no way I was supporting a kid for the next 18 years. Jurors....you understand my very human reaction don't you...any one would have done the same thing." I'm sure the jurors would shed a tear or two for this poor kid and tell him to go on home and not to do it again.....NOT.

NTV - KHGI/KWNB/WSWS-CA - Where your news comes first - Local News - O'Grady Search Continues

... The 19-year-old O'Grady has been missing since May 10 and is presumed dead. Members of her family say she was pregnant at the time of her death.

A co-worker who also has been described as O'Grady's boyfriend, Christopher Edwards, has been charged with her death.

(I don't know how I missed that fact.)
Local newscasts said they both worked at a steakhouse/restaurant together, but I can't remember which one.

That's interesting that they're searching Standing Bear again. Maybe investigators finally got Edwards cell phone records back, or maybe, just maybe, he is starting to talk. Something must have alerted investigators, since they aren't mentioning where they got this new information. My prayers go out to her family.

No bail for man accused of killing woman with sword

Christopher Edwards will remain in the Douglas County Jail without bail as he awaits trial on charges that he killed his girlfriend, a judge ruled Wednesday.

Douglas County District Judge J Russell Derr refused to change Edwards' status, despite arguments from Edwards' attorney, Steve Lefler, that Edwards is not a flight risk.

----snip----

Lefler told the judge that his client has a vested interest in "staying put" in Omaha and seeing the case through - and that he believes his client will prevail in eventually persuading the judge to dismiss the case.

----snip-----

I know that defense attorneys are paid to say this, but honestly how is he going to persuade the judge to dismiss the case? Can't wait to hear the sorry azz excuses.....

isn't it possible for a woman to get pregnant even if she is taking birth control? I would think that the only time she could possibly conceive is during the time that she would be on a menstral cycle since that is the one time of the month that birth control pills are not taken. the open pack of pills could hurt the case a little, but depending on if those pills were all used up, or an older date on the box, or pills stilll in there that should have been used and were skipped.

Hi - I'm new here.. I just thought I'd throw this into the mix...

Actually, it's entirely possible to become pregnant if a woman is on the pill. If she were just starting to take the pill, or if she had forgotten to take her pills on time during her cycle, it's easy enough to get pregnant.

I'm also wondering how this pitiful excuse for a man thinks he is going to convince a judge to dismiss the case. Almost makes me laugh it is so stupid.
Those defense attorneys sure know how to lay the bull chit on. He can say all that he wants to now but what really counts is when the trial starts and the FACTS start to come out. Kind of hard to B.S. your way around DNA all over your clients bedroom and a video at the store where he bought supplys to clean up a murder scene.

My heart goes out to Jessica's family. I know that it must feel that they are caught up in the worst nightmare of their lives. I wish that Jessica would be found so that her family could have a service for her and lay her to rest. No one should lose their daughter in such a violent way. I know that they will never have closure but it is only right that they get their Jessica back and that there will be justisce for Jessica down the road.

Pregnancy test on O'Grady's blood inconclusive

Forensic tests were unable to determine whether Jessica O'Grady, a 19-year-old who investigators believe was slain with a sword, was pregnant.

Douglas County Sheriff Tim Dunning said Tuesday that tests of her blood came back inconclusive, possibly because if O'Grady had been pregnant, it would have been early in the pregnancy.

Her body has not been found. Searches are ongoing, Dunning said.

Chris Edwards, 19, who had a romantic relationship with O'Grady, was arrested last month and charged with second-degree murder in her death. He is being held without bail at the Douglas County Correctional Center.

Friends have said O'Grady was pregnant and thought Edwards was the father

Darn it. If she was pregnant he should get charged with that too. I sure was hoping that the blood would show it.

Why 2nd degree murder I wonder? With such a blood bath in that room I think he should be charged with 1st degree. He meant to kill her darn it.

NEW TWIST IN O'GRADY CASE

Omaha, NE-Action 3 News uncovers another twist in the murder case of UNO student Jessica O'Grady. Douglas County Sheriff's investigators say they have evidence that Chris Edwards killed O'Grady. Edwards was O'Grady's boyfriend. But Edward's attorney, Steve Lefler, wants them to prove it. He is telling the state to provide a body, or any other evidence that proves O'Grady was murdered. He also wants investigators to prove that Edwards did it. Without that proof, Lefler says there's no way to know if O'Grady may have died from a heart attack or a fall down some stairs. Investigators say they collected plenty of evidence from Edward's home. That includes a Bangkok battle sword they say Edwards used to kill O'Grady. Chris Edwards is expected in court this Friday, where his attorneys will ask for the evidence to be presented.

-----------------------------------------
I watched this on the local news last night and the defense attorney said he thinks there's "no way this will go to trial".....ugghh...it made me sick to hear him say that. A heart attack?? Are you kidding me? They also said that investigators believe he put her body in the Elkhorn River or the Platte River.

Plenty of cases have been tried without a body. His attorney has made me sick from day one with his ridiculous, and often, insulting remarks. I hope that his evil client gets the strongest conviction with the strongest punishment possible. I'm so sick and tired of the pair of them. A heart attack wouldn't have resulted in Jessica's blood being not only on Chris' battle sword but also on his ceiling!!!!

thank you!!! I couldn't have said it better. yea right a heart attack at her age, if that was the case, why hide the body? why the blood bath? yea right, fell down some steps, why hide the body? why the blood bath? what kind of lawer do they have? is he for real? jessica is deceased and that little twerp knows what they did with her body, or body parts. with blood on that sword and on that ceiling, that poor woman was hacked to death by a monster and the lawer wants to defend him! prove it!! what a lame statement. if someone else killed her, then what did they do? go over to his house and throw her blood all over the room and mattress to make it look like he did it? :furious:

Who does that idiot of a defense attorney think he is. Don't you just want to slap the chit out of him. Lord but I can't stand most defense attornies. This guy has come up with some of the dumbest things I have ever heard of. Is this guy getting paid the big bucks for this defense or is he free? Obviously he hasn't learned that many cases are circumstancial and there is no body.
By the sounds of it she must not have had a drop of blood left in her body when this animal that he is defending got done. Heart attack or fell down stairs....come on " Hollywood"...oh that's right...he was Scott Peterson's attorney! They must have attended the same law school.

I think he cut her body up and put the pieces into seperate garbage bags and went from store to store from big dumpster to big dumpster. Away it went to the landfill never ever to be found. To much of a risk throwing her in the water....she could always wash up somewhere. JMHO.

I still wonder what has happened to the rest of this animal's family. I know they helped him clean up or at least that is what an article in the news said in the beginning. They helped break up furniture. What did they think happened in that basement bedroom? A blood soaked mattress that had been cut up and box springs that were blood soaked. Just try to get out of this one you lying little freak. Are the police just going to let this family get away with helping this creep try and get rid of evidence? One of them probably helped him get rid of her body. People shouldn't get away with things like this. Anyone who helps a killer should face the conquences.

Such an idiot, isn't he? I can't stand him just from the moronic things he's said about this case. What an insult to this poor girl that was brutalized by this animal! Justice will be served on this scum, one way or another, I'm sure.

WOWT | Defense Motions Denied

... Edwards' lawyer, Steve Lefler, says without knowing O'Grady's whereabouts he's not sure his client can receive a fair trial.

Lefler says, "Without the body how can we tell if the state's theory makes any sense. One -- she might still be alive. Number two -- how do we know how it happened."
With a picture of her niece over her heart Shauna Stanzel stood outside the courtroom Friday asking for the family of the suspect to come forward with information.

"It's time for the family and friends of Chris Edwards to do the right thing and that's to let us know where she is at," Stanzel said.

A trial date has been set for December 4th. The judge told both sides Friday that there should be no reason for that trial date to be delayed.

WOWT | Reward Fund Organized

... Jessica's aunt, Tami Hansen says, "We want to get Jessica's body back, lay her to rest peacefully and respectfully. We are going to be doing a fund-raiser to try to raise some money for a reward for Jessica, and we were inspired by Tracy Tribble's family."

On Thursday, the family will gather in Memorial Park and people are invited to stop by to help with a balloon launch to raise money. A donation will get you a pink balloon to participate.

...The family says that if the reward money never gets used for Jessica, they'll donate it to volunteer search groups and the sheriff's department.

All that punk has to do is tell LE where Jessica's body is and there won't be the problem of a trial without a body. His client will get a fair trial and that would be that....simple.

I'm sure that a forensic specialist could estimate how much blood was found all over that basement room and whose blood it was. I think that will convince a jury that Jessica is dead.

The Gateway - UNO sophomore still missing; trial date set for murder suspect

Edwards has maintained his innocence and is currently being held without bond in the Douglas County Department of Corrections. His trial is set to begin on Dec. 4.

“We have filed motions to have his bond reset or reduced, but those were denied,” said Mathew Higgins, Edwards’ attorney. “He’s innocent and we’re going to prove it...”

During the arraignment hearing, the prosecution presented a summary of their evidence against Edwards, stating that they had found O’Grady’s DNA on one of the sword blades, as well as her blood on the ceiling and walls of his room, the mattress and in the trunk of his car...

Leads, including anonymous leads, should be provided to the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office at (402) 444-6000.
