What happened to Nancy Jenkins?
I am so happy to read this - there have been so many of you FIGHTING FOR JUSTICE!!!!! I know this is a HUGE step - and I hope it is fully served for that beautiful angel!!!!
Now I am thinking about Juliette's sisters... hoping that they are in good hands right now.
I don't want them to witness their mothers arrest. Hopefully they are out of the situation before that occurs.lease:
The indictments filed in Scotts Bluff County District Court by special prosecutor Jim Zimmerman charge the boyfriend of the child's mother, Dustin Chauncey, with child abuse resulting in death ( a penalty of 20 years to life in prison if convicted), involuntary manslaughter (1 to 20 years in prison if convicted) and furnishing false material to authorities to impede their investigation (up to a year in jail if convicted).
The child's mother Charyse Geurts, is charged with accessory to a felony (a penalty up to a five years in prison if convicted ) and furnishing false material to authorities to impede the investigation (up to a year in jail if convicted).
I am trying not to think about the actual charges right now.
Yes, I wish they were 1st degree... but they aren't... and yes, they are better than nothing.
We've seen what happens when you overcharge someone.
If they can get a conviction on these charges...
I'd prefer a conviction for manslaughter than an acquittal for murder.
§ 2903.03. Voluntary manslaughter.
(A) No person, while under the influence of sudden passion or in a sudden fit of rage, either of which is brought on by serious provocation occasioned by the victim that is reasonably sufficient to incite the person into using deadly force, shall knowingly cause the death of another or the unlawful termination of another's pregnancy.
(B) Whoever violates this section is guilty of voluntary manslaughter, a felony of the first degree."
Voluntary manslaughter includes killing in heat of passion, in self-defense, or while committing a felony. Involuntary manslaughter occurs when a death is caused during the comission of a non-felony, such as reckless driving (called "vehicular manslaughter"). Manslaughter lacks the element of malice necessary to be found guilty of murder.
http://nebraskalegislature.gov/laws/statutes.php?statute=28-707(6) Child abuse is a Class III felony if the offense is committed negligently and results in the death of such child.

Grand jury indicts two in Juliette case
The mother of a slain toddler girl and her former boyfriend have been charged in a case that was revived by the familys demand for a grand jury investigation.
(snipped)
Monica Hall, the aunt of Juliette Geurts, had pushed for years for prosecution in the case. She said the family is thrilled with the release of the indictments.
I am so in shock, she said. I am so relieved that the grand jury was successful in indicting those responsible. I cant believe it. It has been 4½ years that we were waiting for something and finally, we have an answer.

Charyse Geurts and Chauncey will be prosecuted according to 2008 statutes. The indictments were filed on Monday, but were not available to the public until Tuesday. Charges were filed directly in Scotts Bluff County District Court, where the cases will be tried.
Townsend has not been charged.
Good news! Finally some movement. Hopefully the media will now take note and follow the case a little more closely.
So they think that the BF caused her death and the mother covered it up. Are these two still together now?
LE failed Juliette by not placing any significance on this case. The crime scene should have been secured as soon as this little one was taken away from the place where she suffered and died. The excuse being that they couldn't arrest anybody because none of the three who lived there would admit to beating this helpless baby to death. "They won't talk" so does that mean no point in looking any further, write it off. "They won't talk" does that mean the guilty are free to go on with their lives as if this didn't happen. They wont talk = if nobody will confess then tough, this is just another unsolved crime we cant be bothered with. This kind of attitude from LE is outrageous. It is their job to investigate crime, and if it truly was a fact that dead babies are not rare to them, it still is a horrendous excuse for shirking ones duty as an officer of the law. The mother should serve several years behind bars for her failure to protect her baby from the brute who killed her.The brute deserves LWOP.
I hope that those who loved this little darling will get some respite from their grief. I admire them for their unwavering tenacity to seek justice for Juliette. It should not take years of relentless effort to get LE to take their job seriously and do everything in their power to prosecute murderers.
IMHO
I hope they won't witness it either. Surely (hopefully) their dad will make sure of that. Now, I would assume, the baby will go to live with her dad as well.
I wish NE had open records like Florida's sunshine law...or do they? I liked being able to read/view the evidence myself in Caylee's case. I just hope for a brighter jury than the Pinellas-12.
