I just saw it on twitter. Praise GOD!!!! Please let there finally be justice for this precious baby girl!

Can we spotlight this case now????

I got chills!!! :woohoo: And, now the tears are flowing!!!

It has been Spotlighted before, but maybe we can again?
Okay Bree, Kimster said to remind her in about 10 days and we can Spotlight Juliette again!
I should be able to remember that because my sister gets here in ten days.

Now I am thinking about Juliette's sisters... hoping that they are in good hands right now.
I don't want them to witness their mothers arrest. Hopefully they are out of the situation before that occurs. :please:

I hope they won't witness it either. Surely (hopefully) their dad will make sure of that. Now, I would assume, the baby will go to live with her dad as well.

I wish NE had open records like Florida's sunshine law...or do they? I liked being able to read/view the evidence myself in Caylee's case. I just hope for a brighter jury than the Pinellas-12.

Just re-reading the article:

The indictments filed in Scotts Bluff County District Court by special prosecutor Jim Zimmerman charge the boyfriend of the child's mother, Dustin Chauncey, with child abuse resulting in death ( a penalty of 20 years to life in prison if convicted), involuntary manslaughter (1 to 20 years in prison if convicted) and furnishing false material to authorities to impede their investigation (up to a year in jail if convicted).

The child's mother Charyse Geurts, is charged with accessory to a felony (a penalty up to a five years in prison if convicted ) and furnishing false material to authorities to impede the investigation (up to a year in jail if convicted).

Dustin is charged with: child abuse resulting in death?? For BEATING her till she was dead?

INvoluntary manslaughter? Involuntary and not voluntary? Did he forget that he wasn't supposed to BEAT her to death?

I'm not sure I agree with those charges, but it's better than him walking free. At least he's been charged with something.

Charyse is charged with: accessory to a felony....but not responsible for her daughters death? She was the sole caretaker. :banghead: She admits she took a sleeping pill (resulting in not being alert) after she returned home from the ER with Juliette - where she claims Juliette had a seizure? That's not being responsible. How do we know that she didn't stand by and watch (or heck participate for that matter)?

I hope more charges will be coming. But, we know the bf will lawyer up and not say anything. For her other children's sake, Charyse needs to spill the beans.

I am trying not to think about the actual charges right now.
Yes, I wish they were 1st degree... but they aren't... and yes, they are better than nothing.

We've seen what happens when you overcharge someone.
If they can get a conviction on these charges...
I'd prefer a conviction for manslaughter than an acquittal for murder.

Grand jury indicts two in ‘Juliette’ case

The mother of a slain toddler girl and her former boyfriend have been charged in a case that was revived by the family’s demand for a grand jury investigation.

(snipped)

Monica Hall, the aunt of Juliette Geurts, had pushed for years for prosecution in the case. She said the family is thrilled with the release of the indictments.

“I am so in shock,” she said. “I am so relieved that the grand jury was successful in indicting those responsible. I can’t believe it. It has been 4½ years that we were waiting for something and finally, we have an answer.”

(snipped)

Charyse Geurts and Chauncey will be prosecuted according to 2008 statutes. The indictments were filed on Monday, but were not available to the public until Tuesday. Charges were filed directly in Scotts Bluff County District Court, where the cases will be tried.

Townsend has not been charged.

I'd prefer a conviction for manslaughter than an acquittal for murder.

I would have liked to have seen both charges applied: Murder 2 and Voluntary Manslaughter, and let the jury decide. But, if they can get a conviction on these charges, I hope the judge will stick it to Dustin. I hate that Charyse is getting off easy and IMHO it is easy.

I looked up the definition of "manslaughter" in Nebraska:

§ 2903.03. Voluntary manslaughter.

(A) No person, while under the influence of sudden passion or in a sudden fit of rage, either of which is brought on by serious provocation occasioned by the victim that is reasonably sufficient to incite the person into using deadly force, shall knowingly cause the death of another or the unlawful termination of another's pregnancy.

(B) Whoever violates this section is guilty of voluntary manslaughter, a felony of the first degree."

Voluntary manslaughter includes killing in heat of passion, in self-defense, or while committing a felony. Involuntary manslaughter occurs when a death is caused during the comission of a non-felony, such as reckless driving (called "vehicular manslaughter"). Manslaughter lacks the element of malice necessary to be found guilty of murder.

(6) Child abuse is a Class III felony if the offense is committed negligently and results in the death of such child.
http://nebraskalegislature.gov/laws/statutes.php?statute=28-707

That's my problem with the indictment. I'm fine (sort of) with manslaughter, but think it should be VOLUNTARY rather than INVOLUNTARY. Involuntary is the death of someone caused during the commission of a NON-FELONY. Child abuse resulting in the death of a child is a Class III felony.

All I know about this case is what I just read in that article, but I'm EXTREMELY happy that this has happened just from that little synopsis. The picture of that sweet little girl in the pool breaks my heart.

Now :jail:

I am so happy to see that there is finally an indictment in this horrible case.

  • #434
Good news! Finally some movement. Hopefully the media will now take note and follow the case a little more closely.
So they think that the BF caused her death and the mother covered it up. Are these two still together now?

  • #435
LE failed Juliette by not placing any significance on this case. The crime scene should have been secured as soon as this little one was taken away from the place where she suffered and died. The excuse being that they couldn't arrest anybody because none of the three who lived there would admit to beating this helpless baby to death. "They won't talk" so does that mean no point in looking any further, write it off. "They won't talk" does that mean the guilty are free to go on with their lives as if this didn't happen. “They won’t talk” = if nobody will confess then tough, this is just another unsolved crime we can’t be bothered with. This kind of attitude from LE is outrageous. It is their job to investigate crime, and if it truly was a fact that dead babies are not rare to them, it still is a horrendous excuse for shirking one’s duty as an officer of the law. The mother should serve several years behind bars for her failure to protect her baby from the brute who killed her.The brute deserves LWOP.
I hope that those who loved this little darling will get some respite from their grief. I admire them for their unwavering tenacity to seek justice for Juliette. It should not take years of relentless effort to get LE to take their job seriously and do everything in their power to prosecute murderers.

IMHO

Nope they are not still together. He was incarcerated for a while for beating a guy with a baseball bat.

I believe he's out now, because Inside Edition chased him down to try and interview him.

A simple "Thanks" wasn't enough!

However, in the other case (linked in my siggie) the mother "disappeared" her son (Sky) and she has refused to talk. A year has passed and NOTHING. LE did investigate the scene where she alleges he disappeared from, but it is so incredibly frustrating.

These so-called parents shouldn't be allowed to hide behind the 5th Amendment when a child's life is at stake. At least in Juliette's case her body wasn't hidden. Gosh, that hurt to write that.

On Tuesday, Hall said she thanks the grand jury, the petitioners and Scotts Bluff County residents who signed the petition
“for taking the time to be the voice for a murdered girl that didn’t deserve to die the way she did.
I can’t thank them enough for that. …She (Juliette) wasn’t buried and forgotten.”

What wonderful news!!! I am so glad to hear that Juliette will finally get the justice she deserves. Thanks so much for pushing and pushing and making sure this baby was not allowed to be forgotten.

As far as I know we do not have open records like Florida. I wish we did. I, too, would love to follow this as intently as I followed Caylee's case.
