Hmm....I wonder who was the last person to actually see Margaret, aside from the young man she was on the date with? Were they BOTH seen together out in public on the date--i.e. restaurant, movies, a concert? That sort of thing? Or do we only have people saying Margaret told them she was going on a date with the guy and the guy saying he dropped her off at home? Everything is written in a way that with the passage of so much time is vague.
As I intrepret the very sparse information available, Margaret Kay Holst left a note saying that she was going on a date with a boy she recently met. I don't know if she named the boy in the note, but evidently he was located and said that they did indeed go on a date and that he "left her off somewhere near her home".
Certainly an odd way to end a date, in my opinion. But evidently the police accepted his story. He was never named as a suspect in her disappearance.

It's possible, sure. I think clothes could easily be different if a person left voluntarily and even if they were taken and held somewhere, but jewelry is a bit more likely to be constant, especially a ring. I think we change earrings more frequently, but JMO!
The height and age ranges work in your comparison. Skeletal remains found 5 years after Margaret went missing seems reasonable enough.
We would need an explanation for how she ended up in Indiana, but it's not a crazy distance. The unidentified was believed to have brown hair, Margaret has red hair, but it looks auburn in some of the photos. I'm not sure we can rule this out based on the hair alone.
Margaret, to refresh:

The Unidentified you are suggesting:
The opal ring, pictured at Namus

Blue nylon jacket; Blue long sleeve button up blouse with a pocket; White bra; Gray slacks with stretch panel (possibly maternity); Pink underwear with blue butterflies and "Gotcha" on the front; Blue or gray long knit socks
On the Body

This could possibly be Margaret, but I don't think it is enough to submit based on a ring and being roughly same age/height. Maybe look and see if there are newspaper articles about this unidentified woman? There might be more information that could help? Do we have a thread here?

@Pennysmom1 and @Beekarina had a Doe from Indiana in because of the ring, I couldn't get the link for whatever reason, but I can tell from subsequent comments it's not the same Doe I'm wondering about. Am wondering about Nevada City CA Doe 1984:
5' 0"-5' 8", blonde/strawberry, sounds like long hair, July 1984, PMI 35 days (am guessing beyond that as well based on her ruleouts). Remains located near Yuba River/Nevada City. Found with a lot of pink clothing and an opal ring:
As for the clothes, girls with reddish hair often love pink, it's a very nice contrast to their hair, but jmo.
