NE - Omaha Double Murder #3 - *Arrest Made*

I think of an eleven year old boy giggling with his friends as he spent time in chat rooms. I'm sure his friends have been questioned about that. Unless Tom had early homosexual tendencies, what could have happened in a chat room that would have prompted murder?

He has too much bounce in his step and purposeful forward movement as he leaves the bus to be anticipating anything frightening. MOO.

It makes me sick and sad to think that these murders could be tied to the boy's online activity. Perhaps the parents knew about some of the questionable activity, and due to the sensitive nature (homosexual? pedophilic?), they prevented the release of some information in the past? I am looking forward to the America's Most Wanted episode. I really hope it could help the family with closure & bring a murderer to justice.

Most of you are aware by now- but in case someone missed it, AMW will air a presentation about this case tonight on Lifetime channel, it is scheduled for 8PM CDT, you may want to check your local listing for the air time in your area. It's too bad it will be up against the Olympics but most of us are so glad it finally will be on there that this is of little concern.

I plan to watch with my family and will then post my feedback. Let's all hope this helpsm OPD tie things up and leaqds to an arrest.

I believe it's channel 33 for us in the area on Cox.

AMW airs at 9 pm EDT. My DVR is set! For those on the east coast who have directTv, AMW is on channel 252 & the 9 o'clock episode reads 'A veteran is killed during a night out'. Then I pressed the info button when I highlighted the 9pm episode and it went on to read 'a father returns home to find his son and housekeeper have been stabbed to death'. Just wanted to clear this up because I was confused.:waitasec:

Does anyone know if they will aire this online? I will be at work until 10:30. I wonder if this will re-aire at 11pm?

Maybe I shouldn't be doing this but I am linking to a local news comment board on WOWT that carried a story about tonight's broadcast:

http://www.wowt.com/home/headlines/Cold_Case_Update_Dundee_Murders_138984264.html

Please note the first comment is from a bitter angry young man who hopes the case is not solved. If this were the only such comment I have seen and heard it'd be one thing- but there does seem to be a strong feeling in Omaha's minority community that their crimes are not getting the attention they deserve. I halfway agree but there are other factors at work, including a strong 'don't snitch' mentality. It's difficult for police to solve homicides if no one will come forward.

I think I and some others have not exactly gone easy on OPD in this case. Hopefully this crime can be solved soon and attention focused on others. No one wants tom see a murderer go free, no matter what 'part of town' they live in.

Snick, I cannot imagine the amt of hours that are logged just for computer forensics alone. I spent all day cleaning out my inbox. The wheels of justice turn slowly don't they?

I applaud Lt Kanger and OPD for their tenacity! He said in that video, "We'll never give up." and I believe him! He and his team kept digging and found new evidence. IMO, he is smart to take it national!

I just viewed the segment and in no particular order, have a few observations/comments.

I was surprised at how small the interior of the Hunter home seemed. The dining room where Tom was found looks to have been more of a dining nook, it was a small area with a dinette set, there may be a more formal dining area on the same level. Shirlee's body was found in a very narrow hallway- she looked to have been fleeing as she was just a short distance from the back door where she'd parked.

The crime scene was horrific, both were stabbed numerous times, someone in the area did see the man in the black suit on the porch ring the doorbell and someone opened the door and let him in.

The mystery man drove past the house at least once, then parked two blocks over- he was seen exiting his car.

So.. it looks like someone let the guy in. It also looks as if Shirlee realized something very bad was going on and was trying to flee. This fits the idea that Tom had a pre-arranged meet with this guy.

Keeping my fingers crossed.. hopefully someone knows something.

PS- Just saw the evening news on KMTV, they contacted someone at the AMW call center. Calls are 'pouring in' according to that source.

I wish they had been more definite about the screen names Tom was using. They showed Kupkakek but only mentioned Motzim and IMO did not pronounce it correctly. I thought that was a key clue but maybe not.

Anyone else notice in the pics of the dining room, Tom's backpack from school was sitting on one of the chairs? Sort of touching.

The first thing that stood out was that this person parked 2 blocks away and then walked to the house. Obviously this person knew exactly where he was going. Now the question is, was he stalking out the house? Or did he prearrange a meet up with Thomas? I just keep asking, why didn't OPD look at this lead from the begining? I think if they would have, this probably all would have been over.

IIRC, it was reported early in the case that the man was seen stopping and starting as if looking for an address. I think he was also seen talking on his phone during this time but may be mistaken. I'll see if I can dig up a link.

I still question why Belenky was in Omaha on the day of the murders when he had transferred to Allegheny months before. The sleuth in me would sure like to nose around in his computer and phone records! I don't think he is the olive skinned man tho.

(For those who are interested, take a stroll down to the forensic astrology forum where there is a thread on this case. Links from early on are easier to find there as the thread is only 6 pages long.)

America's Most Wanted Helping OPD Solve Murder Mystery

Investigators are also digging deeper when it comes to who hunter was chatting with online. Lt. Ken Kanger says Hunter used the screen names "kupcakek" or "motzim" to chat with people many he didn't even know. "Some of the chats were things that raised an eyebrow as far as Thomas giving out locations about where he lived, the neighborhood and things of that nature," Kanger said.

I was afraid of this, fran and thanks for the link!. I paused AMW on the DVR on the shot of Tom's chat and noticed that Tom, posting under KupcakeK, mentioned Dundee.....

"I want Dundee days to come back Saturday."
"It's fun thing for teenagers."
"Kids are there but they're like 10 and that's the lowest without their parents."

So sad. This kid was alone much of the time. I am not faulting his parents totally as many of us have kids and don't know all that goes on with them online. It sounds that he was seeking interactions with people online to replace some void in his life. My son who is 16 ran into an issue last month with someone making what he took as a threat. He came to me with it and I dealt with it.

I have seen mention made of the idea that Tom may have been claiming to be much older than he was; I now wonder if it wasn't the opposite. Maybe some online predator was claiming to be Tom's age and enticed him. Possibly by offering to come over and play games, etc?
