NE - Omaha Double Murder #3 - *Arrest Made*

"I want Dundee days to come back Saturday."
"It's fun thing for teenagers."
"Kids are there but they're like 10 and that's the lowest without their parents."

I believe the annual Dundee Days celebration typically takes place in August or September. It's a relatively small neighborhood affair that includes a pancake breakfast, a small parade (which includes boy scout troops, the flower basket watering trucks, a marching band or two, local politicians running for office), local vendors, etc.

I would assume the producers chose to illustrate a chat that was not part of the suspect dialogue.

The first thing that stood out was that this person parked 2 blocks away and then walked to the house. Obviously this person knew exactly where he was going. Now the question is, was he stalking out the house? Or did he prearrange a meet up with Thomas? I just keep asking, why didn't OPD look at this lead from the begining? I think if they would have, this probably all would have been over.

They didn't look seriously at this being an internet related crime for a year or two because the detectives originally on the case were probably old-school. They were so sure that it was Shirlee's family and 'drugs.' I understand that her son in law actually was given a polygraph and then when he passed they were left high and dry. I was actually told that Tom's computer was not even checked for months .

I have nothing but praise for the detectives currently handling. There was a period when I was sure this thing was going to go into the books as a cold case. I made some posts critical of OPD handling on local TV news chat boards and in each case got hammered by respondants accusing me of not supporting the police. I think this thing was organized, probably by the Omaha Police Union.

I always felt this case had to be solved outside the 'box'. Looks as if that's what they are doing.

This article focuses on harrassment against women in the online gaming community but I thought it informative nontheless.

http://www.nytimes.com/2012/08/02/u...e-gaming-stirs-anger.html?_r=4&ref=technology

In other game communities, however, sexual threats, taunts and come-ons are common, as is criticism that women’s presence is “distracting” or that they are simply trying to seek attention. Some have been offered money or virtual “gold” for online sex. Some have been stalked online and in person.

I didn't really think the program showed anything different than what was shown on the news earlier in the week. I plan to contact AMW although I doubt I have any new information, just something odd and coincidental that happened at my work later that night or the next day. I can't use my work computer due to HIPPA and basically anything I tell them will require a lot of footwork and subpeonas on the police's part.

Welcome to WS, OllPuff9!!!

It's ok! You go ahead and call in your tip to AMW. Your info may be helpful to investigators, because you never know.

I am glad you joined in the discussion:)

Just wanted to remind you all that AMW will re-air the show on Lifetime tonight. It airs at 10 pm EDT.

I was afraid of this, fran and thanks for the link!. I paused AMW on the DVR on the shot of Tom's chat and noticed that Tom, posting under KupcakeK, mentioned Dundee.....

"Kids are there but they're like 10 and that's the lowest without their parents."

Wonder what the last sentence means? What was the context of this portion of the chat? Had the person asked him something?

Interesting,
fran

I was curious about that too fran. Unfortunately, I don't think that the other person's responses were shown. moo

It does sound like the other person asked him Tom a question about it tho doesn't it?

wm

I wonder if the person he was talking to was pumping Tom for details on how many kids would be there? I'd bet a lot of pedophiles hang out on those boards and he may have been getting groomed by more than one.

I still think there was something they are aware of now that went down in the last week or so of Tom's life. Threats, an invitation or whatever.

AMW has a Facebook page for this case and you are supposedly able to sign in and then leave a comment. I tried to do so after signing in but cannot find anyplace to push 'enter' to submit the comment. I have a terrible time figuring out Facebook and maybe someone more used to it can tell me how to do so. I was going to enter a comment telling people about our discussion.

Just click the word comment, write your comment in the line then click "enter" on your keyboard.

I posted so maybe we will get a few more participants. BTW the name on my FB account is one I made up!

A belated welcome and thanks for your posting. I hope you contacted AMW. One problem with this case has been that there have been some people who have contacted me off the board with information they were afraid to go to OPD with. Usual reason was they 'didn't want to accuse someone' or something similar. As I told one a year or so ago, meanwhile a killer walks among us. If you are concerned about HIPPA issues I can understand that, but after four years I wonder if that still applies?Good luck and hope you can help!

If someone showed up at ER, urgent care or a doc office with some sort of knife wound to his hands the eve of the killings, this could be the murderer. Many knife murderers end up cutting themselves due to the slippery blood, even with gloves. He could have bled into his glove and not left drops at the scene. I wonder if LE looked for this. Didn't he take the knives away with him? He could have left town and had the wounds repaired somewhere else too.

colette, IIRC, Mrs. Dr. Hunter stated in a news article that 'he left knives behind'.

I agree with you that there is a good chance he was cut in the struggle. There were two victims after all which would increase the chances that the murderer suffered some type of injury. I hope OPD was able to get some DNA whether it be fingernail scrapings or blood droplets. There was alot of blood on the carpeting in the dining room and blood on the stair banister where Shirlee was found. I've always wondered if the killer cleaned up and flushed the gloves, if he wore gloves, before leaving the home. He wore all black which would not show the blood spatter on his clothing when he exited, but I have a hard time believing that he left such a violent crime scene without a scratch. moo

I hope OllPuff9 called in that tip to AMW. That one tip could blow this case right open if there are medical records that can be subpenoed!

Hey Snick, Thanks for the FB link!

moo as always, wm

Tom's mother was quoted in an interview as saying that the knives were 'left behind' and I took that to mean they had been brought in by the killer. I was also told that (1) Both victims were found with the knives still imbedded in their bodies and (2) A very small DNA sample was recovered that is thought to be of the perp but that it was not matched to anyone in data bases.

Over the past couple years I have been told some things by contatcs that now look to have not been correct, so take this for what it is worth.
Assuming that the path OPD is on now is correct I would feel that the perp came there to kill, this was not a case of someone coming there and then something going bad. He was let into the house probably by Tom who'd been expecting him.

One thing just occured to me; AMW gave us Tom's screen names. Wouldn't it have made more sense to have given out the screen names of suspect individuals he'd been chatting with?

In my mind, the new information doesn't rule out MB's involvement in any way.

The online chat may be the medium by which MB communicated with Thomas, to set him up and ensure he was home. It sounds like an evil game of revenge and retribution.
