Theres been a lot of local rummors regarding the Rulo cult and the possibility of AT being involved. I imagine thats why it was referenced. Scoobydoo, You mention the Tina Brandon case (Humboldt murders). Youre correct, that took place near Falls City. Same with the Rulo Cult. They all lie in Richardson County, NE where Doug Mertz was and still is the County Attorney. The same Doug Mertz that AT claimed was his attorney. If youre familiar with the Tenna story or the movie, then you're probably familiar with Doug Mertzs role in that as well.
Oh wow I didn't even think about the attorney connection and yes Rulo is like 9 miles from Falls City. I had been on a Rulo research tangent for the last two days as I had never heard of it before. I was pointed in that direction by a local, but it wasn't from a social media conversation. Ironically, after I had done all this reading and watching videos on the case, here comes AT to deny the claims. The fact that AT brings it up is strange, imo.
I can see why it may have been considered. Aside from rumors there are many coincidences too. There's the whole anti-authority/government aspect, which BB and AT seem to conform to and admit openly in their videos. The multi-partner relationship thing, and the marijuana aspect are other similarities. Also many of the towns and states connected to the Rulo cult are also places where AT has connections. Interstate theft and weapons charges was also what lead to the Rulo cult being exposed. And this part is jmo but AT and MR do share a physical resemblance...even the intermittently photographed wonky eye. I had even considered maybe AT was somehow related. AT would have been 16 years old in May of 1983 when the Ryan family moved from Kansas to Rulo, Nebraska.
The Rulo cult is truly one of the most horrible and gruesome cases I have ever researched. From my understanding, the Rulo cult itself may be no more, but the cult related ideology continues. It's way bigger than just Rulo. It's one of those things that the locals in many smaller Midwest towns are aware of, they just don't talk about it.

Overall, I can see why it sparked fear in the community. Now that AT has publicly ruled that out, I wonder if it makes them feel better. I am guessing not really. I also wonder, does AT think he is really fooling anyone? It seems to me, his motivation for speaking out to media is mainly to get messages across to BB. Perhaps he is hoping to intimidate her, influence her, and/or play on her sympathies.
