I am making a float to enter in a Christmas parade for the missing persons and unsolved murder victims in the county where I live. Does anyone have ideas on how to decorate it? I have large missing signs of the 4 missing people. I am planning on using bales of hay for family members to sit on.

Is there a certain color dedicated for missing persons awareness? I’m not sure if I should do a Christmas tree and a sign saying “Help Bring Them Home for Christmas” and “Give (murdered person’s name) Justice for Christmas” or something of that nature…

Any ideas y’all have will be greatly appreciated.

Yellow Color Ribbon

Yellow is commonly associated with Suicide Prevention Awareness. World Suicide Prevention Day is September 10, 2023.It's also used to bring awareness to adoptive parents, missing children/persons, endometriosis, and several types of cancer.

Your post really touched my heart. What a creative way to get the names and faces of your community's missing persons in front of a large audience.

I think given the venue you could certainly focus on the theme of Help Bring them Home for the Holidays. It sounds very hopeful and action oriented. I've seen a lot of ribbons around trees for the missing. Perhaps on the float you could have one tree for each person with a yellow ribbon/bow and their name/poster is on the tree too? Could you include a huge, easy to remember phone number or website for tips on the sides of the float? Anyone on your float could wear yellow and possibly even tshirts imprinted with the posters? I'm not sure if you can hand out flyers? Or even pens or something with the website on it? Any chance any of the family / friends of the missing could participate? Wearing a shirt or holding a sign "My sister". Or "Help bring my sister home".?

Summary...i think the keys are awareness and action. Simple, clear. Something that will catch people's attention and give them an easy way to help if they know something.

Good luck. I hope you'll update us!!

Thank you for your thoughtful reply. I have invited family members of the missing/murdered to ride on the float. We do have flyers and bumper stickers. I think dedicating a tree to each person is a great idea!
