My eldest daughter recommends “Girl in the Picture”. I have it on the list. IIUC it is about Sharon Marshall. There could well be a thread for her here on WS.

No doubt. I have zero desire to watch that.
OMG! I had to Google for that thinking the OP couldn't possibly be serious! How horrible! I hate cruises anyway, and that's when things go right. They just aren't for me. But just reading about it stressed me out. :(

Appears to be a bunch with that name. Not being familiar with the case I'm not sure if they are all about the same person, or if any are about a different Sharon Marshall. Here are the threads:

Trainwreck: Poop Cruise

What a @#$% show.
I watched it, and it was hard to believe it actually happened. If it was a made-for-tv movie it would have been unbelievable.

This event convinced me that my instinct to avoid cruises was correct. I have no desire to be around people who haven't enough sense to relieve themselves and throw it overboard.

While I totally agree about never going on a cruise... it's my belief that people weren't just relieving themselves everywhere. It was raw sewage that spilled out. They were told to urinate in the showers, and to poop in biohazard bags they handed out.

tugboats finally arrive to tow the ship to shore, causing it to list sharply, and the backed-up sewage to start running across every floor and down the walls

SOURCE

With no electricity, passengers were forced to urinate in the shower and defecate in dedicated biohazard bags.

@Gemmie

My grandmother's house never had running water and the family was always clean and took care of the outhouse with lime. I know people today freal out when the Internet is down. I can't imagine if they had no toilets!!

Why were those people told to pee in showers? Why not dump it in the ocean? It was going to end up there anyway.

"The Perfect Neighbor". Interesting to watch, mostly from police body cameras.

Cruise ships have water treatment systems on board that are similar to those on land. They use a process involving bacteria, filters, and UV light to clean the water before it is released into the ocean.

Has anyone watched "Trust Me: The False Prophet" on Netflix?

Very hard to watch for me. And what is heartbreaking is that it is still happening.

It's on my list to watch when I'm up for it.

There's a great Guardian article about it.

I was raised mainstream LDS, so this kind of documentary hits a bit different to me. For all that with their prairie dresses and elaborately braided hair FLDS look so different, much of the basic doctrine comes from the same place. They sing a lot of the same hymns, have a lot of the same holy texts. There's a language that's used that's still inherently familiar and common to most if not all sects rooted in what began with Joseph Smith Jr in the 19th century, as much as the mainstream church trues to distance themselves from it.
