The family of a Northern Ireland man who was last seen on Monday has issued an urgent missing persons appeal.

Andrew Furey, who is from Lisburn, was last seen in Amsterdam on April 11, 2022.

The 48-year-old's family say they are beginning to get increasingly worried about his welfare and asked anyone with information on his whereabouts to get in touch with them.

Andrew's sister Joanne told Belfast Live that he is around 5ft 8 or 9ins in height, is of thin build, wears glasses, has a stubble and would also wear a hat.

"We are very concerned about his welfare. He may have left the area now," she added.

"If I could give a message to Andrew, it would be, 'Please contact us and tell us you are OK. The whole family are really worried about you and just want you home safe'."

There is not much to go on. He isn't (yet?) listed on the Dutch police Missing persons site. Vermiste volwassenen | politie.nl Did the family already filed an official missing person report?

When was the last contact, through social media, phone? Where did he stay...did he have plans to visit other places? Who saw him last on Monday. On what time, during the day....in the night? Where? Sadly a lot of foreigners have drowned in the canals, when they fall in while intoxicated. Not saying this is the case, but it happens a lot.

Its still very early days somebody missing abroad only 3 days. We know people can be off having a good time in a new country and forget about contacting family. However Andrews sister is very worried about him. There has been quite a few disappearances from the UK in Amsterdam in recent years and its not gone well. It is important family contact LBT Global.

“AMSTERDAM - Northern Irish tourist Andrew Furey (48) - known as Andy - has been missing in Amsterdam for four days. He was last seen on Rembrandtplein last Monday evening.

Furey was in Amsterdam with two brothers and a cousin. He wasn't doing well. He was in a bad mood when he decided to leave on his own on Monday. Since then, his fellow passengers have not heard from him. His phone has not been answered since.

Furey comes from Lisburn in Northern Ireland and has a lot more family there. His sister has indicated to the Amsterdam police, among other things, that her brother is gone. They try to find him through flyers and calls in the media. "We are very concerned," she says by email.

The Amsterdam police take the missing person seriously and have officially listed Furey as missing in the system since Friday morning.”

I'm sure they take his missing case serious but he is still not on here. https://www.politie.nl/gezocht-en-vermist/vermiste-volwassenen...why is that?

And why wasn't he doing well...is he ill, was he drunk...stoned...? OMG how sad...not good...not good at all.

I'm confused also as to why, the politie haven't put it on their website. This was reported on Tuesday to them. The translation of the article wasn't the best. Andrew would be classed as a vulnerable person. He was with his brothers and nephew on the final night of their holiday. He went to the bathroom and never returned to the table. Hadn't returned to their accomodation or collected his belongings. They searched until the early hours of Tuesday morning, then reported it.

When do the police say a person is missing? Wanneer is volgens de politie een persoon vermist?
A missing person is a missing person for the police if the person has disappeared unexpectedly and it is unknown where he/she is now. His/her absence deviates from normal behavior. And it must be in the best interest of the missing person that they are found.

What do the police do with a missing person?
The police take every report of a missing person seriously. If you report a missing person, a police officer will complete a questionnaire with you. This questionnaire helps the police to give the right priority to the missing person. The police always do something. Sometimes that is just recording that someone is gone and recording them in the search register, and sometimes the police go big with a search.

  • In the case of missing persons, the first 24 to 48 hours are crucial. Do not wait too long to report a missing person to the police.
  • The police may list someone on their website as 'wanted/missing'. A placement on this is usually immediately picked up by social media
Placing on the missing persons website can also be refused by the family as far as I know. I can imagine, depending on the circumstances, that family wants to wait a while.

I hope he is okay.
I hope he knows he is not alone and people care.

Have police indicated they are searching for any security footage in the area to try to track his movements? Time is truly of the essence.

Andrew Furey had been in Coco’s bar near Rembrandtplein but failed to make it to the apartment he had booked later that evening, police say. He was last seen on the evening of April 11.

From the previous reporting I thought they were already in Amsterdam and had checked in to their accommodation. Now, as for this media outlet, it feels like they arrived at the airport and before going to the rented apartment they decided to drink something on Torbeckeplein. Then Andrew disappeared. But also upthread is said that he didn't show up at the rented accommodation or picked up his stuff up after he walked away. I'm kind of confused now. When did the party arrive in Amsterdam and where was the rented apartment? Did he only had hand luggage and he left that with his family under a table at Coco's?

It seems to be a misinterpretation of the semantics, but I still would like to know how and when the visit to Amsterdam begun and where the were supposed to stay overnight.
