Nevada - Coronavirus COVID-19

We spent New Years in Laughlin and were struck by the total inconsistency in terms of regulations. There would be a stretch of 10 bar-top machines closed, while those that were open were packed three feet apart. Restaurants were limited to four-per-table and required reservations, while nearby craps tables had people shoulder to shoulder. The restaurant thing was a farce - we were told we needed a reservation (hour in advance) even though the place was empty. A short drive across the bridge to AZ and there were no such restrictions. It was very strange to be so empty New Years Eve - quite unlike the picture in the above post.

I also notices spotty enforcement of masking. In October security was all over any who pulled a mask down. Not so much, this time. Perhaps there's no more money for enforcement.

No, enforcement became too risky for escalated confrontations. That is why we made it a policy to not get into it. We posted a sign. Good enough.

Interesting. My wife saw a couple of people approached by security, but it was way different than October. Back then bartenders were saying the gambling and liquor commissions were hyper-aggressive.

I still can't get over the inconsistency. One place had plastic dividers between each bar-top machine and every one of them was active.

Nevada reinstates mask mandate in high-transmission areas, including Clark County

The other day I predicted that Sisolak or Pritzker would be the first to roll back the clock. I guess it was easier for Sisolak because he has a big hammer - what, are people going to stop going to casinos? The outrage on his twitter feed is pretty intense. I'm kind of devastated, as I was looking forward to a mask-less trip to Laughlin. I know it's the ultimate "First World" problem, but if I have to lift a mask after every slug of beer, I'm not going. The timing could also be disastrous, as legal sports betting starts September 9, in Arizona. Why are people going to drive to Nevada, when they can sit on a bar stool in AZ with no mask? Any predictions on who flinches, next? I'm still thinking Pritzker, in Illinois, as he doesn't seem to be under any danger of being deposed.

Seems that being able to ditch masks was motivation for many to get vaccinated, and now they all feel cheated. As many have already feared, the CDC's about face (no pun intended) on masking could be a devastating blow to reaching the unvaccinated. At least there will be more data for both sides to misinterpret - if cases rise, in the short term, people will say masks have no effect. When cases drop, due to most of the viable hosts already being infected, people will give masks credit they don't deserve. Hard to believe we are 18 months in and nothing has changed.

Sisolak: Some large venues can drop masks if all attendees are required to be vaccinated

I hope the opposition press grilled him on this one. He hid behind CDC when mandating masks, statewide, but I don't recall CDC saying "no masks as long as everyone that bought a ticket is vaccinated." I suspect he's getting a lot of push back on mask requirement and this scheme will be rolled out to all businesses as a way of extricating himself. Although he has a tendency to treat everyone like children, so this could be his backdoor attempt at a vax passport.
