Nevada - Coronavirus COVID-19

Pray for Nevada. Pray for the entire US.

Institute of Health Metrics and Evaluation is giving Nevadans a new look at just how bad the coronavirus could be in the Silver State. The institute, a health research center at the University of Washington says Nevada’s daily death rate could peak in just 13 days at an estimated 26 deaths per day. That would be just under 800 deaths by June 1st.

Anyone else on Nevada unemployment insurance? I just checked, week three, still waiting for benefits.

There are no problems with the claim, wages, or weekly filing.

How can casinos open? Constant touching of chips, cards etc. How about those hotels with everyone piling into elevators, etc? What about the car valets, would you want a stranger infecting your car after being in so many others? What about the shows, people tightly sitting together? Never mind about herds of people in conventions. All those buffets. People traveling in & out from elsewhere.

I am very familiar with LV (my parents moved there many years ago). IMO the hospitals there are not the best.

I agree. Apparently the Wynn has a great plan. Of course.
Wynn CEO Predicts the Las Vegas Strip Could Reopen in Mid- to Late May

The issues that I see with the "great plan", is the thermal testing, to check people who come into the casino for temperature. Seriously? They are going to check people who walk into a casino in Las Vegas, in the SUMMER?! Who doesn't have a higher temp? Just saying.

I am hoping that this month long reprieve from gambling has helped some people who had problems with gambling. The worst issue with gambling addiction is not only losing money, but also the amount of time spent at casinos. Wouldn't that be a silver lining for this entire pandemic?! I am not a fan of gambling.

Nevada is a special case. I worry about Nevada a lot. There are few CoVid-19 cases, hospital beds are ample, BUT when people start coming in from all over the US - and then, all over the world, that might change.

The casinos that have banned smoking will give us some data about CoVid in a non-smokig vs smoking casinos.

If they remove enough stools from slots to make for social distancing, require masks, take temperatures - will that be okay with the mayor, I wonder?

Will conventions and trade shows come back? I know employees are concerned. Here (SoCal) they are requiring new floor plans for events and stores, which much be filed with the various cities and counties, and then, if the business disobeys, they lose their business permit.

The idea is that tables have to be 6 feet apart, etc. I wonder if they could make it so that only every 4th stool was occupied in the casino (and still enable them to open). Gaming tables will be hard, and I wonder how card players will react if asked to wear masks.

Otherwise, I would hope all the employees have PPE. Gambling is about risk, the population going to party in Vegas is going to be many, many risk-loving people.

The outdoor/pool activities should be okay (although one scientists says that waves and splashing help preserve CV-19 in aquatic environments).

Does the mayor want Vegas to just go back to being Vegas, the way it was before? It'll be interesting to see who comes (Southwest is willing to fly, they just aren't selling many tickets). Those bus companies would love to start hauling passengers again...Under 40's may go for it.

Living in La La Land. Nothing is going to be like it was before - except, IMO the rise in the number of cases/deaths.

The real issue with Las Vegas, is the huge conventions that happen. People who fly from all over, especially Asia. They cancelled the huge computer convention in January.

People who come to conventions, fill up hotels, go to shows, eat out, rent cars...

And, I know that where I work, money for everything except basic operating expenses is gone, for at least the next two years. No money for travel, employee education, attending conferences, conventions. Not gonna happen.

So, I don't think that is going to be an isolated situation. Las Vegas is going to be hit bad by that.

Wowser...is anyone watching this interview with LV Mayor Goodman & Anderson Cooper?

It will probably be online later if you missed it.

I saw one yesterday. Mayor Goodman was on a show with some news station. She toned down her rhetoric for that interview.
