New Movie coming out about the JBR case in 2025

There is a new movie coming out this year about the JBR Case. It stars Clive Owen and Melissa McCarthy as John and Patsy Ramsey.
My sense is that it will lean toward the intruder theory. I say that because the Ramsey dream team would put the kibosh on anything that would point to their being guilty.
It is called:

I agree with you, though. I highly doubt they would make a movie about this case using well-known actors to basically blame the parents in JBR's death—especially when John was recently interviewed again and brought up the questionable touch-DNA.

At any rate, at least this documentary could bring JBR's case to fresh eyes and maybe new explanations for what could've happened.

I think they asked Melissa McCarthy about it in an interview and she said something about Patsy (can't remember what exactly) but it was something positive, like she was so strong. So, I definitely think it will be all about an intruder and how the family were looked at as being guilty and how they had to deal with that.

I wonder what Patsy would think that she's being played by Melissa McCarthy. lol

This new tale will open the case to new sets of eyes as well as many who have been following for decades.

In this 2024 Hollywood Reporter article, JR states that he believes the case could be solved with the latest DNA technology, likely that used by CeeCee Moore and Parabon Labs.

He wants the DNA related evidence turned over to outside agencies...which got me to thinking, is this something a guilty person would do?

Could this really be a case of PR being the perp, or covering for BR, and John unaware of it?

Under normal circumstances, I don't think this is something a guilty person would do.

However, in this case, John was the one who "found" JBR and proceeded to contaminate the scene by touching the body, lifting her up, and carrying her upstairs into the living room. So any DNA of his that is found on JBR cannot exclusively be tied to the actual crime.

If John is the guilty party, then it's in his best interest to push for more testing, as any further DNA evidence found would create reasonable doubt and shift attention away from him.

It isn't a documentary, it's a serialized film based upon a true story.

My understanding is that the crux of the story is based upon the relationship between JR and PR, not so much about the facts of the murder. And since it isn't a documentary and its focus is their relationship, which only the two of them would know the actual truth of, it will be embellished by the script writer's impressions. There are of course certain details that we do know from their own comments, actions and from those who knew them best. That said, no personal relationship between two people is ever a completely open book. IMO it will need to be taken with a grain of salt. As a serialized film, it is for entertainment purposes.

I have mixed feelings about it. It feels exploitative of this terrible tragedy. The Netflix faux documentary has ignited new interest in the story. This kind of feels like piggy-backing onto that.

There is a descriptor however that I find interesting: “At the heart of the series, it is the story of Patsy and John Ramsey, exploring the unbreakable partnership of these two complex people — as husband and wife, as mother and father — who had committed themselves and their children to building the narrative of a perfect, privileged life only to have it destroyed one Christmas night in 1996.” The implication being that the creators recognize that the Ramseys life was largely for public display. It will be interesting to see if they can really peel back some layers of the facade and find a truth that only the Ramseys would know.

What I'm thinking is that for making a movie/series (even if for only entertainment purposes and not based on actual facts), they must have talked to a close family member (most likely John) and asked him for his permission to make the film/series but also him to describe the dynamics between Patsy and JonBenet, events and memories of pageants. If that is true that they are focusing on that part. They must have gotten a description that they can use in making the movie/series. So that scenario/description is told to the directors by someone close. And the directors have to agree that the story aligns with what he (I still think that that person is John) believes to be true or what he wants the public to believe to be true.

My point is that if the movie/series is out, I'm quite sure that we can see a story of a beautiful bond between a mother and a daughter who both loved doing pageants. Cause that's what John wants the world to believe. I really doubt that he (or anyone from their inner circle) would actually allow to use Patsy's and JonBenet's name in a movie/series that would show the darker side of pageants...

Or, if they do make the film about darker side of pageants.... well, then they sure can sell the intruder theory by doing that, couldn't they. Make a film about how a pedophile gets his eyes on JB at the pageants and tell the story through that... Possible.

I think it's one or the other. Most likely pro pageants... IMO

We do not know if JR has any involvement in this limited series or not. I can find no information on way or the other that he is or isn't involved.

JonBenet's story and much of the information about the case is in the public domain, so they don't need Ramsey permission to tell whatever story they are going to tell, nor do they necessarily need input from anyone in the Ramsey orbit. And since we already know pretty much what that input would be, the inevitable Ramsey spin, I think it's smarter if they just tell the story from what is already known.

For one thing, IMO I think if PR were still alive she would not be particularly happy with the casting choice of Melissa McCarthy playing her. I also believe JR would probably be sensitive to this, although he's probably satisfied with the casting choice for his character. LOL.

Since they have said that the crux of the story will be focused on the relationship between JR and PR, I think the pageant stuff will be minimal. Part of what made this case such a national sensation was the pageant stuff, which most of America found to be a huge turn off......disgusting. The perception / recognition of how dark and exploitive the pageant world was (maybe still is?) played a significant role in how the world viewed the Ramseys. Focusing on that then is a rehash of what everyone had already concluded. And since connections from that world to the murder have been investigated and debunked, I just don't see it as being a big part of the story they hope to tell. They will include it, of course. I could be wrong, but I think making a film about the darker side of pageants is a different story and there are a few movies and documentaries that cover that already out there.

I don't really have any pre-conceived notions about how this limited series will turn out. It does have some good people involved. I do think if they stick to the core of the story being the relationship between JR and PR it could be compelling. Their relationship after the murder is certainly interesting. It changed. And if you believe as I do that a RDI, how they managed to circle the wagons and cover the truth is kind of remarkable when looked at in the context of how many relationships fracture and fall apart after such an incident. Their stories have contained a lot of inconsistencies over the years, which is just one reason why there are so many in the RDI camp. What has remained consistent though, is how they stuck together instead of turning on each other. I think that's where the story lies.
