I'm starting to wonder if perhaps he burned her body. Today's emphasis seems to have been on sifting the soil.

Still if he had burned her remains, how big a hole would he have needed in order to bury what was left? I would think it would be a very small hole, much smaller than the area they were said to be digging.

Yeah, all that campfire talk might have been revealing something. The bones would still exist but there probably would not be that strong odor coming from the body so one could up and move it when one wanted to. I wonder if those boys mentioned anything about a campfire that night. Josh does not look strong enough to me to have carried Susan too far (she would have to have been dragged) unless he somehow made her lighter by what you are saying. And, yes, a smaller hole would cover up what was left. So more digging would eventually find something.

I don't know this is not making sense. If you think there is a body down there dig it up. Anything in the dirt is not going anywhere and can be sifted at any time. I am not buying this show.

I have NEVER heard of LE taking a week or three days to discover a body in a grave. They dig down and take it out and then as you say they check everything else.

I think it makes sense, they nessed up royally by assuming a body and now are trying to cover that. Not saying there wasn't a body there or not, just that you don't publicly announce human remains when you don't have them yet!

If she is there, the defense can have a grand old time especially if something of hers is found. All this time and then "suddenly" a button or something surfaces? After allowing the father to the site? etc.

No wonder we haven't heard much. They are sifting through the dirt very slowly. I don't feel there's any reason to think there isn't a body underneath since they have only dug 2 feet. At least they will keep working tomorrow morning (if the rain lets up). Who knows, maybe just 1 more foot, and they hit something. They have to be so careful. I wish they could somehow separate the dirt at each level, and put it 'over there' for experienced workers to sift through, while they keep digging. Wish there were a way to take an x-ray of the ground right there.

I wonder too...if the area containing the "tiny pieces" has been in freshy turned soil...and then as they're digging...they come to unturned or compact dirt..then would they stop and presume that the dig site doesn't go deeper?

Also, there are ways to see into the ground. I don't know about xrays per se, other than concrete xrays....but there is ground penetrating radar. I hope they are planning to use that if they've not used it already. However, if we are dealing with pieces, I'm not sure that will achieve whats needed, kwim? ::sigh:::

YES!!!!!!!

they could have said dogs detected a scent of human remains, they could have said lots of things but instead they ASSUMED.

:banghead: its a cluster

I totally agree, they jumped the gun on this one and misled the public. I still find it hard to believe that JP could dig a grave in those weather conditions. My DH is 6'3, 220 lbs (firefighter) and could not take the stakes out of the ground in February for our Xmas decorations this past winter. I don't care what JP may have had with him, but I could not bury a cat here without a machine. Generator/ blow torch would do nothing for a least a few days.

I have read many posters say that something must be brewing..JMO but the only thing brewing here is either... beer or coffee. They should be ashamed at what they put the Cox family through once again. Sorry..just had to vent my frustrations. I am so disheartened by what has been reported.

Please, no throwing hard objects. :truce:

My opinion:

I think the bottom line here is that WVPD has no experience with PR, and they're doing a great job showing it.

I don't think that means they won't eventually get it solved, and get someone prosecuted and convicted. But they're clearly going slow. And I get the sense that they don't really know what the next step is. They're just hoping that it presents itself, and they know it when they see it.

I guess I don't really have a problem with that. It's frustrating, for sure. But if at the end of the day, they get a conviction on the person responsible, then I don't have to know every detail along the way.

I think they're mostly in over their heads, though. Again, that's just my opinion (obviously).

Well if what has been reported is true then I think LE could be fairly confident human remains would be found if 7 different dogs alerted on the area.

The Pineallas 12 may not believe in cadaver dogs, but I do. A body was there at one point.

OMG true that.

It is raining harder out here now. The wind is howling, too. @fox13now #findsusan #Utah #SusanPowell

Hope the weather doesn't slow them down further.

ETA: I see they halted the search, sorry guys, catching up again.

I hope the bad weather forces them to rethink what they could be doing with this time, which is sitting JP's and his dad's 🤬🤬🤬 down in separate interrogation rooms with a spotlight, and asking some VERY hard questions.

:maddening:

I am confused... what in this article made you believe she was cut to pieces? IMO this could start another rumor. Especially for people that have not followed this case from the beginning. :banghead:

The size of the grave they dug out (3 feet long.) MOO.

Regarding what LE is doing, my sense is that this is all a way to trap JP into doing something incriminating or gaining a confession. Susan's dad has been fully briefed in person so that he is not put on a roller-coaster ride like the general viewing public is. MOO.

Susan wrote on a FB blog about a camping trip past Simpson Springs per channel 2 news. It stated that the road was very rocky and straight up. They ended up with a flat tire on the way home. Hopefully that video is available later because I missed parts of it.

I can agree with this, and his behavior backs it up.

I think we all need to remember that crime investigations take a long time, but CSI et al have made us believe a crime can be solved in an hour.

They are moving slow, but steady. So much goes into properly documenting evidence that it is going to be slow. If they went off and just dug, dug, dug - critical evidence would be lost and would cast reasonable doubt.

I cannot emphasize it enough...we need to be patient. WVCPD is being hit from all sides by reporters, the public and family/friends. Every word is recorded, analyzed and commented upon. Getting mad won't make this happen any quicker. Just know that it will happen, and it will happen right.

I don't think that a campfire is hot enough to fully burn a body. Especially a winter time campfire. I think you need a really hot fire that is fueled by gas or strong propellants to get hot enough to burn an adult body. imoo

The same grieving husband moved out of their home to another state within one month of her disappearance and refused to speak to police.

Thank you for this piece of information about his moving in with his father within 1 month of her disappearance.

People with a big secret they could go to jail for band together - has there been any possible linking of Steven Powell in this crime? I am 99.9% certain he currently knows the score that JP murdered Susan, but how long has he known that? Has there been any good sleuthing on this possibility that I could get a link to? TIA.

What about an infrared camera like they use in searches. Could they use a helicopter to detect if a full body is underground at this site?

It is widely speculated that Steven was at least called immediately after JP returned from "camping". However, we do not know if WVPD have the cell phone records to determine any phone calls between the two. IIRC, SP was working and would not have been in Utah during this time. However, again we do not know what information WVPD gathered during the beginning of this case.

I sincerely believe that SP could be charged as an accessory at the very least. We ALL know that he knows what happened.

Perhaps, but why not just grab a shovel and dig it up?

Thank you for this. It is my understanding that JP is the only person of interest in this case, so it makes sense his dad has an alibi in another state.

I am speculating but want to understand fully that JP's dad was not involved in premeditated murder. We have numerous and voluminous reports of his obsession with Susan (heck he even admits it 3 weeks ago), so it definitely bears the question "Did he partake in the plot to murder Susan Powell?"

Perhaps, but why not just grab a shovel and dig it up?

I felt badly for cursing at the ME for not going out the 4 hours to see the 'body'. Now all I can think is he must have stared at them and said "are you nuts?"
