It’s not really literally labeled the “basement.” It’s in the member’s only section. Sometimes mods will put a thread in the “parking lot” for various reasons. There is the parking lot and the jury room. The jury room is for anything off topic and we can start threads there.Hi I read a couple posts that asked the moderator if they should go to the basement. What is the basement?
I reported your post and asked a mod to help you change your name, if it’s possible.Thanks.

Hello Everyone,
I am new here and i didn't know about Websleuths until i watched a crime documentary on youtube. First i want to thank everyone here for doing this by taking time out of your lives to make a change in the society. Second i would appreciate if you can tell me how to get started as i have never before thought about these things. What books, research... do i read, what do i watch etc. to be able to contribute here. i want to stress on the point that i am a novice. Thank you.

Hi. Can someone please direct me to guidance on what's considered on-topic here and what isn't. I have read The Rules but I'm still none the wiser on one question in particular. Is this place only for discussion of missing persons cases (e.g. the Constance Marten and Mark Gordon case which started off as such), or does it also cover other criminal cases that have been widely reported?
Thanks in advance!
D

Thanks.
Are criminal cases on-topic if they were covered earlier this decade in the media but haven't yet been mentioned here?
Thanks.

Welcome Anthony. I hope to see you around.Hello everyone!
I became aware of Websleuths a few years ago between the documentaries, like Killing Season, and the work of Josh Zeman and Rachel Mills-- to the Cecil Hotel doc on Netflix. I registered a while ago, but participating online like in person social activities have been hard for me-- numerous contributing traumas and mental health issues have kept me from doing so..
However, I've found ways to circumvent that and begin participating here, and on social media more of late.
I've commented on posts here and there, found a number of eye opening events that have occurred in my area here on WS.
I am very glad to have this thread and learn more of the how to function and read here on WS.
Thank you everyone who has assisted here, sharing information and getting after those who have committed crimes--but also those who are Missing and helping families with all involved with those cases.
I look forward to participating here more, getting to know everyone and contributing as best I am able.
