Memorial march organiser Kerrin Hunter, a mother of two daughters, said Gotingco's death had sent shockwaves through the tight-knit community.

''We have all been really touched by this. It could have been any one of us,'' she said.

''We feel very moved by it. We wanted to do something to put some positive energy back into our streets ... we want to light up the night, think of Blessie and think of her family.''

The turnout for the memorial march exceeded the number organisers had hoped would attend.

Blessie Gotingco's church has opened its doors to anyone who wants to pay their respects to her.

St Mary's Catholic Church in Northcote is holding the North Shore woman's ashes after her cremation today until her funeral on Thursday.

Father Craig of the church says since Blessie went missing, the whole community's been rallying together and grieving in many ways.

He says everyone's taking it pretty hard, as Blessie was greatly loved, and we like to think our streets are safe in New Zealand.

The man accused of murdering Auckland woman Blessie Gotingco will keep his name secret for now.

An order suppressing the man's identity was continued by Justice Timothy Brewer in the High Court at Auckland today.

Part way through the hearing the man was removed by security from the court and taken down to the cells after swearing loudly.

Defence lawyer Peter Winter argued for the suppression order to continue, which Crown prosecutor Aaron Perkins opposed.

Supporters of Blessie Gotingco's family say they are frustrated but accepting of the decision to grant further name suppression for her accused killer today.

The man charged with the murder of the Auckland mother of three was removed from court by security after an angry outburst where he swore loudly during his appearance.

He was granted interim name suppression in the North Shore District Court on 28 May, and this was continued until his trial in March 2015 by Justice Brewer in the Auckland High Court this morning.

Accused hit Blessie Gotingco with car before murder, court told
April 28 2015: http://www.stuff.co.nz/auckland/68081726/blessie-gotingco-murder-trial-to-start

The man accused of Gotingco's death has interim name suppression throughout the duration of the trial, however Justice Timothy Brewer took the unusual step of allowing media to publish photographs of the accused.

The court was filled with Blessie's friends and family, as well as members of the Birkdale community, all wearing green pins- Blessie's favourite colour- as a token of support.

The turnout was so great there weren't enough chairs available and supporters had to stand at the back of the courtroom.
During a recession the group joined hands outside to form a human chain of strength.

The trial is expected to last between two and three weeks.

Blessie Gotingco's throat was slashed when she was still alive, court hears
Read more: http://tvnz.co.nz/national-news/ble...t-slashed-she-still-alive-court-hears-6305701

Justice Timothy Brewer warned the jury that they would be shown photos that would be difficult to stomach.

The jury heard Ms Gotingco suffered multiple stab wounds, the most serious being a 14.5cm laceration across her throat, which partially severed her airway.

The bleeding from that wound was so severe that a white t-shirt Mrs Gotingco was wearing had turned red because of the bloodshed.

Blood was also found in Blessie Gotingco's lungs, meaning that she was alive when she suffered that injury.
