A 28-year-old man, who has name suppression, is representing himself in his trial for the rape and murder of Philippines-born Ms Gotingco at the High Court in Auckland.

The Crown alleges the accused ran the 56-year-old down with his car on May 24, 2014, before raping and murdering her at his North Shore apartment and dumping her body at a cemetery.

Detective Constable Chris Cooper told the court how, following Ms Gotingco's disappearance, police requested GPS information on the defendant's movements around and after the time of the murder.

Data showed "significant movement" around Eskdale Cemetery after 6am on May 25.

Mr Cooper said when he learnt this on the evening of the 26th, his superior officer told him to "get out there now".

The cemetery was "pitch black" he said, and a search and rescue team failed to locate Ms Gotingco.

However, upon receiving more detailed GPS information about the defendant's movements, police located her body in a corner of the cemetery.

Detective Scott Wilson, who also attended the scene, told the court Ms Gotingco's body was hidden under a pile of pine needles, grass and still-attached vines beneath a pine tree.

Her foot was sticking out and he could see she was wearing blue jeans with a white pattern, and was wrapped in a fawn-coloured sheet.

Neighbour Stephen Meadows said he had heard loud music coming from the defendant's apartment below his that same evening, when the Crown said he was stabbing Mrs Gotingco to death.

Mr Meadows said he was watching television around 9pm when he noticed the music was loud and he considered going downstairs to ask whoever was playing it to turn it off. He had not heard music coming from the apartment before.

Detective Shane Page completed an investigation of the defendant's vehicle. He told the court there were cuts and scratches in the leather of the passenger seats in the back of the car, as well as blood in many areas. Foam had been removed from the seat squabs and a passenger seatbelt was cut short.

Constable Nathan Burtenshaw was sent to the apartment to check rubbish bins.

"In the orange bags I found foam material with what appeared to be blood stains and hair matter," he said.

He also found a piece of seatbelt and sponge.

Police have described being met with a scream when they first entered the home of the man accused of murdering Auckland woman Blessie Gotingco , as the trial of her accused killer finishes its second day.

A number of witnesses were called on Wednesday afternoon, including police who described finding Gotingco's body and subsequently executing a search warrant on the defendant's home.

A glazier who repaired the accused's car windscreen also testified that he was told by the defendant that his vehicle was damaged after his friend slipped on the bonnet and crashed through the glass.

The final witness of the day, Detective Sergeant Todd Bartlett, said police announced a "forced entry" into the defendant's Birkdale apartment after he didn't come to the door.

"There was a scream from the area of the house and all the officers that entered gravitated toward that scream."

They discovered the accused lying on the couch, underneath a duvet.

"He certainly wasn't asleep.. whatever he was doing before that, I don't know."

Does this mean he was fitted with some sort of tracking device, ankle bracelet or something ? Why do our courts/judges keep allowing dangerous people out on the streets. When his name is revealed I bet his record shows he was dangerous. What he has done here to Blessie is beyond horrific.

BBM: Apparently so.

"Police investigations led them to the defendant, who was being monitored via a GPS anklet at the time."

Blessie Gotingco trial: Car repair man tells of blood on BMW

South Auckland auto-windscreen worker Mike Nelson was called out to an urgent job on the afternoon of May 26 last year.

The Birkdale customer told him he and his mates had been trying to impress some girls when one of the group slipped on the bonnet of the silver BMW and put his backside through the windshield.

But the Crown says the car had sustained the damage because on May 24 it was deliberately driven over the kerb into Mrs Gotingco at such speed that it broke her leg in two places and threw her over the roof.

When the police went to the defendant's address they found a knife, testing of which allegedly showed traces of the victim's blood.

The Crown said a number of her personal items, such as her handbag, were also found buried in the suspect's garden.

Bloodied towels and mop heads were found in a wheelie bin too, Mr Walker said.

A swab taken from the victim's body turned up a semen sample, which was later tested by ESR scientists.

Mr Walker said it provided "extremely strong scientific support" to suggest the defendant had raped Mrs Gotingco.

I'm assuming he has name suppression because he has a bad criminal history and they don't want a biased jury ?........

So NZ is having the same problems as AUS letting crims roam the streets on bail when they should be locked away! Jeez I've only just stumbled onto this horrific crime. What?? he hit her with his car and then took her home and raped her? He's the worst of the worst murderer!
It's bloody NOT fair!

He's representing himself in a murder trial? Psychopath?

A 28-year-old man, who has name suppression, is representing himself in his trial for the rape and murder of Philippines-born Ms Gotingco at the High Court in Auckland.

http://www.3news.co.nz/nznews/blessie-gotingco-murder-accused-sacks-lawyer-2015042912#axzz3YyXkduiN

Yes, I reckon he is a psychopath.

"Justice Timothy Brewer addressed the jury before proceedings began, saying the defendant had decided to represent himself – but his former lawyer Chris Wilkinson-Smith would stay on to provide assistance.
The defendant then stood to tell the jury he wanted to make it clear he was not choosing to represent himself.
"I was told I had to," he said.
"I don't think I can proceed with defending myself," he said. "I apologise for the muck around."
Justice Brewer told the man to make a choice whether to go ahead with an opening statement, or be seated and let the Crown call witnesses.
At that point the defendant chose to proceed with a statement.
He told the jury the Crown's case was "just a theory", and evidence would show he hit Ms Gotingco by accident, panicked and took her back to his apartment before his 8pm GPS-monitored curfew." (from the above link)

Well done Justice Brewer for not allowing this nasty bloody ***** to disrupt court proceedings. This bloke also attempts to paint himself in a somewhat good light by stating that he rushed home to stay in line with his curfew.
