Agreed

If it is castoff, this destroys his version, unless somehow he deposited it during the the cleaning process?

But otherwise, the blood from Grace, which should not have been a large amount, would have dried by the time he supposedly noticed

Castoff is suggestive of a violent struggle
I think this could be the fridge here in the lower right hand side of the photo.

Grace Millane murder trial: Traces of blood found on fridge in accused's room

It crossed my mind that maybe he was going through her purse to steal cash or other valuables.

Its crossed my mind. He didn't have the high powered job he made out he had, but could afford to live in a hotel for long periods of time. Makes you wonder if he wasnt stealing from his dates or looking in handbags for things to pawn - if her watch and necklace were never found could he have pawned those for money? Speculation obv, but interesting to see where his money came from.

In an interview with his grandfather he states: "His grandfather had loaned him a couple of hundred dollars in mid 2016, which he didn't pay back. The family hadn't heard much from him since." Grace Millane murder accused was estranged from family, grandfather says

Wasn't he said to be an 'oil manager' or ws that a lie he told? I also heard he was into the whole crypto currency thing?

The oil manager thing is all a lie.

I've wondered if the guy is some kind of trustafarian

Living in a Citylife apartment doesn't come cheap, and it doesn't appear that he had a job

I wonder how long he lived there and how much he had to pay upfront. There have been two examples where he has been accused of not paying rent in the past, by his previous flatmates and also in an article from the Telegraph that states:

"The Telegraph has also learned of how Mr ******* spent around eight weeks living in a Wellington boarding house in 2011.

Its then owner claims the alleged killer left without ever paying rent, after saying he was playing for the national softball team who had yet to pay him.

“Basically he charmed me. We had conversations and whatnot and he seemed like a pretty lovely guy," he said. "I didn’t jump on him - he was a young guy, I was trying to cut him some slack."

He told the Telegraph that he eventually asked to speak with Mr *******’s manager, to get some confirmation of the promised funds’ existence.
He claims that he gave him a fake number, “scribbled down to get me out of his room”. The landlord said he managed to track down a phone number for the Black Sox, who he claimed “had never heard of the guy”. "

At one point he was working as a bar man in 2016

i agree, from some picture browsing of the hotel rooms it looks like it was a studio rather than apartment he was staying in. Therefore it's literally one hotel room with some kitchen facilities - not like an apartment. It goes against what he said about not noticing. Also if that's the case he would have had to walk past her to return to bed after the supposed shower nap. Though phone evidence has largely debunked that.

I think the suspect knows very well he will likely be going to prison.

He knows he can't shake off the connection between him and Grace's death, becouse of the strength of the evidence against him; so he is using the trial as an opportunity to push for a shorter manslaughter sentence, bargaining on that giving him less time than if he had just pleaded guilty.

It only shows his utter contempt for Grace's life, her family and her friends. It also demonstrates how evasion of justice continues to remain his no 1 priority.

The only thing this evil toe-rag regrets:- is getting caught. Had it not been for the skill to-which the police unravelled his tracks with relative ease, he would still be out there now in silence.

I'm trying to work out how he'd be able to live in a hotel for extended periods of time ...

Is this something that might happen in NZ if someone were homeless? Might he be put in a hotel (that he doesn't pay for himself) while waiting for some kind of housing ... it happens sometimes here in the UK.

Also, to double check - are we here in this American owned forum - abiding by the anonymity order or not?

I followed the case in the very beginning and took some screen shots of interest then but unsure about posting now.

I've met a few fantasist in my time, lived with one when I was young and nieve, they are always dangerous! Always... I've never come across a harmless one!

Yes, this site aims to abide by international laws. However, you might receive private messages asking for information. Passing on information that is not allowed in the press might be allowed in private messages. Perhaps someone who has knowledge of this could confirm.

!

The government certainly does house people in motels sometimes if social housing is at capacity but I very much doubt this is the case here. The city life is probably a bit too expensive for what they’d usually use.

I am wondering whether some of the apartments in the building are privately owned and rented out on a longer term basis? So he wouldn’t be paying hotel rates to live there. It still wouldn’t be cheap accommodation but much cheaper than paying ~$300 a night.

I haven't been able to find any evidence that there are some privately owned apartments in the building that are let as longer term (therefore cheaper) rentals. So I guess he was paying nightly hotel rates? Anyone know how long he'd been staying there? I guess this all might come out at the trial. Interesting to try and ascertain how he was affording it though.

The suspect was probably (in all likelihood), either living off the fruits of a family windfall and not working, or was working in a casual role and using a float of side-cash to subsidise his living costs in the hotel.

The price tag of his living situation was clearly not a major concern. As long as he was able to be the "downtown city boy player" he wanted to be, then that is all that mattered.

The only reason he managed to woo Grace was by telling her the same well rehearsed pack of lies he has probably told every other girl he has met on tinder.

All things considered, it is clear this guy is a complete idiot.

I've found privately owned accommodation in Sky Tower, but I'm not sure if that's part of the Sky City complex. Is that something you would know?

The sky tower is the tall tower with a viewing platform and revolving restaurant at the top. There’s no accommodation within that. Directly next door though is the sky city hotel so the rooms you found might be in there?

The first witness, who has name suppression, tells the court how she and the accused matched on dating app Tinder before meeting up at his CityLife hotel apartment on November 22, 2018.

Prior to the date, the pair communicated through Tinder and via messaging about what they would "like to do" on the date.

"We discussed what we preferred during sex. I said I liked rough sex and also choking," she told the court.

"He said he liked rough sex as well but I don't remember if he said anything about choking."

The pair agreed to meet at 7pm in the lobby of CityLife, and then they went up to his room and started talking.

After the pair went up to the accused's room, they started talking and things gradually turned more intimate.

"It was just sex in general, he choked me a bit because that's a preference of mine," she told the court.

There was no soreness on her neck after the date, she told Crown prosecutor Brian Dickey.

"It wasn't too hard but I was gasping for air - it was consensual," she said.

When the woman left the apartment, she realised she'd left her glasses there. She knocked on the door but the accused didn’t answer.

She continued to ask him for weeks about the glasses but he didn't return them.

"He was keen to meet up for sex again but I just didn't feel it anymore," she said.

The witness was working at one of the places the accused went with Grace Millane on December 1.

"He came in with a young lady," she told the court. "She looked European and had a black dress on."

The witness made them margaritas and the jug of sangria. When the accused left with Grace, the witness asked him again when she could have her glasses back.

"He said: 'Sure, sure - tonight'."
