What is the source of the quote in your post please?
It is in this article:Vehicle at centre of Grace Millane investigation hired out again after alleged killer drove it
Beard also urged members of the public not to publish the name of the man who appeared in court charged with the murder of Grace Millane.

The court granted the man interim name suppression this morning and police report it is an offence to breach a court order.

"We would like to remind the public that whilst we appreciate the public feeling around this case, it is an offence to breach a court order such as a name suppression, and this includes naming someone, who has name suppression, on social media," Detective Inspector Scott Beard said.

The court order means New Zealand media are legally not allowed to publish the man's name, however, the same restrictions do not apply for international media.

I'm not sure which quote you mean, sorry
The quote in the post I quoted and replied to. FYI clicking on the white arrow next to the poster's name in the black quote box takes you back to the original post quoted in a reply.

"The 0800 number has received a number of calls from people with information about the 2016 red Toyota Corolla hatchback.

"Police would like to hear from anyone who travelled along Scenic Drive on Monday 3 December, between 6am and 9.30am.

"The vehicle was rented for a 24-hour period and was returned to a central Auckland rental car company on Monday 3 December at lunchtime."

Does he have a private lawyer or is his defence being paid for by the State?

I don't know if WS is having a moment but it seems to be mixing up the posts for me, my comment about the "gag order" was a general observation following in from the links posted by others but no matter, I see we have a good link now to confirm it. Thank you @castilloisno1

I was replying to the post by asyousay. I can't see your name quoted in my post but maybe you got an alert that I quoted you? I've seen someone in a different thread saying they are getting alerts every time someone replies to a different poster. That's weird.

@Tortoise not websleuths fault..I had read the article downthread and thought it pertained to the name suppression discussion on why his name is being mentioned on outside of NZ media..wasn't trying to hijack your conversation :)

Now I'm lost. asyousay quoted a line in their post saying the name suppression didn't apply to foreign media. I wanted the source for that quote and you very kindly provided it. But for some reason suzyjackson thinks I was replying to her post and so it seems WS is alerting the wrong posters when a post is quoted. I think it could be a new glitch with the WS site because I've seen it happened yesterday to another poster in a different thread.

The Telegraph, The Independent, and others have now also revealed his name and posted his picture. The whole world knows by now who he is. The gag order is clearly not working in this day and age.

How was he able to delete his comment on Facebook? Does he have access while held in custody?

I'm guessing LE and/or family have access to Grace's page and have deleted it from there. It was beginning to gather 'dislikes' and presumably therefore notifications, which may have been distressing.

No he won't have access but he could have told someone his password. Or it could have been deleted Grace's end, by family (if they have access to her account) or at the request of police I guess.

The comment is still there when I look. How strange!

Regarding the gag order, I'm imagining that it is ultimately in Grace's interest for his name to be suppressed, if the law in NZ is similar to other countries. Too much pre-trial 'furore' and his lawyers could argue that it's impossible for him to receive a fair trial. So yes, people in NZ can look it up online, but they won't passively 'receive' the name as part of what is presumably intense media coverage. His name won't be repeated a thousand times a day on TV/radio. Even if it's just a technicality, the judge can now reasonably say that he's had every chance for a fair trial. I know it seems like it's doing him a favour, but I'm sure it's also protecting the potential for him to be convicted if he is indeed guilty. And also protecting the same possibility if he is innocent.

That is strange, if you look at the photos it says there are 2 comments on that one but you can only see one which suggest it's been hidden rather than deleted

I could still see it until I refreshed my browser (I must've left the page open) and then it disappeared.

I wonder if he has any prior convictions? Because if not- it isn't normal to go straight into a premeditated murder. I still believe not premeditated- but will have to wait for the trial now.
