This is so very tragic. I'm now wondering a lot about whether Grace met her killer online and when. Could it be possible she knew him online prior to even arriving? I wonder if they were together more than the one evening? Or was this a situation where they met online but right before meeting. I don't know but perhaps the answers can lead to a motive. . and possibly help determine if there could be other victims. MOO

The last couple of articles say that they were together from the time she was seen at Sky City (was that Thursday?) to when she was last seen at 9:41PM at the hotel (Saturday?). I've been wondering if he drugged her.

This is awful. New Zealand is such a beautiful place where I felt nothing but safe and welcomed by the locals. I hope the guilty party is locked away as quickly as possible.

I have no idea what could have driven this person to do this. I know you can meet dangerous people through many walks of life but I’m always worrying about people using online dating. You have to be so careful these days.

Not sure if this has been posted, but the Detective Inspector Beard speaks from the site where Grace was found. His voice cracks.
He also is asking the public regarding sightings of the Toyota in Auckland between 6 and 9 am on Dec 3, and pictures are shown of the red car.

I did see the Taupo part. Seems he hired the car on Monday 3rd.

20+ years ago they upped the sentence for rape to something close to murder. So if she said No & he raped her then he might have flipped out at getting caught. IMOO

@cybervampira thank you for posting that video. Goodness it’s just so terrible! I know terrible things happen all over the place but New Zealand is such a beautiful place that it’s just awful that Grace didn’t get to experience that.

The inspector doesn’t give much away and suggests that the accused hasn’t been particularly helpful in that their investigations led them to this place and not him. He was also reluctant to talk about the condition of Grace’s body before tomorrow. I do hope this doesn’t mean that she was subject to anything horrific before she died.

She was seen on video at Sky City around 7:15 Saturday night. And at 9:41 at City Life Hotel a couple hours later.

ETA I too thought about her being drugged. If she went with him to the hotel, it might not have been so willingly after all, but I don’t know how long the so-called date rape drug would need to take effect if that’s the case .

From what I’ve gathered over the years, date rape drugs take effect rather quickly. Bless her heart. A person can’t do anything anything anymore.

Distance from Auckland to Taupo where car was found...275 km, 3 1/4 hrs drive time. I guess he left it there?

That explains the possibility of GPS tracking.

I bet the motive was sexual in nature, as we have seen with many women and even children, here on WS.

It's terrifying for me to know that some men have no control over their urges and will do literally anything to fulfill them. As if they have no soul.

Poor Grace. She just wanted to be out and about and have fun on her birthday, as she should have. He was probably very charming at first and then turned violent. She didn't deserve this.

She doesn't look drugged in the lobby still photo? She looks happy. If a girl picked up at a club died of an overdose in a spiked drink, it isn't likely murder; he could have called an ambulance and denied knowledge. JMO I was thinking he is an amateur, with some very dark fantasies, and that her body will not only show sexual activity or assault, but other violence like beating or strangling. He had her in his room for a long time, 30 hours?, while he tried to figure out a plan = not premeditated, and he failed to conceal his crime. She somehow fit into his private fantasy, and he lost it.

Such a beautiful girl. The family seems just devastated.

I don't see how it could be premeditated- who would take a victim to a casino- famous for eyes in the sky and facial recognition software? Plus he had to rent a car- doesn't sound like forward planning in my own opinion.

If it was accidental- say drugs involved- you call an ambulance- you don't cold heartedly plan a cover up.

It’s not since Thursday. It’s Saturday around 7:15 pm to Saturday around 9:40pm. Same night for both places. Only a couple hours know that they were probably together.
