Perhaps the 6:30 call Wednesday is what set off the whole "Abigail is missing" ... could she have called her Mom and said she was in trouble?

Did you see the daggers coming out of the eyes of JY and the FBI agent when he said that ? :floorlaugh:
For sure, all eyes started fluttering and heads did a military snap to look to at the FBI guy. He is head honcho in charge.

I watched it again, a reporter definitely asked about the cell phone:
Reporter: 'Check any areas where her cell phone might have been used?'
Fish and game: Yes, with no success...
yet this article quotes a fish and game official saying the opposite http://www.unionleader.com/article/20131013/NEWS07/131019694

I wonder why? Did he mean they pinged the phone and it had remained in the area?
IMO, this looks more and more like an abduction by someone she knew and trusted.

ITA, I think these press conferences are crafted to send a message to someone.

I think she was shooting daggers the whole time.

Just got home and listened to the press conference. The only new info I heard was that her dad has been located (but why doesn't he want to talk at the press conferences?), some people are taking their time giving leads which the FBI isn't thrilled with, and new areas that they have searched but the map was too small to see exactly where that was. Phone pinged at 6 but wasn't brought up? If she were at home, would her phone use that tower at the resort or the closer one south of Pudding Pond? Unless she texted she was going to Walmart, why weren't they searching more around her house and the resort instead of behind Walmart? I am very confused. Did they not know about the ping until after they searched the Walmart area. There is a poster who is awesome putting maps together with details of the case. I contacted her to see if she can help put one together for Abby.

“(On Monday), we’re going to bring in an additional resource of five air-scent dog teams that I’ve used in the past that I’ve had great success with.

http://boston.cbslocal.com/2013/10/...-help-to-find-missing-new-hampshire-teenager/

So, I had to do a little googling to note the differences in air scent dogs compared to tracking dogs. Lots to know and understand by the info I skimmed. Air scenters might specialize in a certain area of search such as cadaver, water, avalanche, urban, wilderness, evidence/article. One article I read said there were only about 150 teams out across the country so these pups aren't your average bear. I sure hope they can lead to finding a safe Abby.

Air Scent Dogs; Nose to the air-they pick up scent carried in air currents, anywhere in an area & search out its origin, Do NOT need scent article or trail and time is not an issue.

Tracking Dogs; Nose to the ground, need scent article, they are not searching they are following

ESPECIALLY given they seem to be so dedicated to keeping people quiet, and making sure no one does come forward. That's what intrigues me the most about this case- during press conferences they'll say things like, "We need the public's help" or "We're so glad her friends are finally coming forward" but the rest of the time, they do anything and everything they can to keep the lid on each and every piece of information that could potentially leak.

It's all the contradictions that has me up in arms.

Maybe he meant that the friends were finally coming forward to law enforcement.
They don't want them talking to the media, they want them coming to THEM.
Maybe friends just barely started contacting law enforcement?

Definitely could be the case. I am just surprised by the mixed messages, and the lack of information in this case. It's frustrating. Every night, LE has a presser, but shares absolutely nothing. You've been around a long time, MsFacetious... you know how much more information we usually have by now where these kinds of cases are concerned! I hope LE has a plan, and a very good reason for playing things so close to the vest.

That's the way I heard it, too. But there was a bit of chiding in the comment which I don't understand. Everything seems so carefully crafted in the pressers; why admonish her friends?

But we don't normally have information at this point from NH cases. :twocents:

Maybe because they KNOW another friend has information and isn't coming forward? :twocents:

We may not have it from LE, but we get it elsewhere! In this case, though? NOTHIN'!

We didn't have much in Krista or Celina's case either.
We heard Krista's body being recovered on the scanner though.

The difference was that we had at least a few people willing to talk in those cases.
In THIS case everyone has been told to zip it.

That's why I wonder if they don't have more information which requires silence. :twocents:

Personally? I think they've all but solved the case. I think they know WAY more than they're saying, and there's a reason they're insisting on so much silence. I HOPE, anyway.

I'm with you CMac2.......I have been on here for years, and I think it really odd that they are telling the mother and friends etc not to say anything about her, especially personal details.

Normally with missing children there are vigils and everyone is talking about the person to get the word out there.

I also think it odd about the tape around the house.

I also think it may be someone on the internet has lured her, maybe because it was her birthday the following day they have said "hey lets meet up for your birthday I have a present for you etc"........I don't know, but yes they most definitely know more than they are telling the public (which I have found is always the case as well) and I too think they have it solved and the not telling re personal details because of trying to catch someone out or legal stuff.

Much like Krista Dittmeyer... but with more silence.

Hoping to wake up to great news.
Come home sweetheart ! :)

I just know whenever we see Jane Young at the initial press conference, the news isn't good. I keep having flashbacks to Lizzi Marriott. Maybe if they'd been more forthcoming earlier about where her body had been deposited and the fact that the two people who murdered her had dropped evidence in dumpsters all over the seacoast, maybe Lizzi's body would have been found and evidence would have been preserved. I don't see that keeping pertinent and timely evidence from the public is helping. They ask for our help, but we don't have enough info to know how to help. They've got to begin realizing that we the public don't know anything and unless we're told what we should be looking for, we might miss something. The game warden mentioned checking outbuildings on people's property. He needs to state why, for example that she might be in one of those outbuildings on a farm hiding or that she might be being held there or she might be running scared and have hidden in an outbuilding, but they can't be offhand about asking for things like that and not remind people it's been 5 days and it's been cold at night. Like everyone else, I get a bit frustrated and I hope none of my children ever go missing because I'm not convinced the games they play are helpful. Apologies in advance for the rant.

So if they are bringing in air scent dogs, does that mean they are looking for a cadaver and not a live person?

not necessarily. I worked with someone who owned and trained dogs for air scent. Scent lasts longer in the air, even days later, and they can follow scents that may not be on the ground, for instance if someone is taken in a vehicle an air scent dog can sometimes track that, or if that person was on a bike, etc.
