The mother wrote a letter and so did the dad. Wonder why the sister didn't.

I really thought she'd be home for Christmas if she was able to. because she didn't, I'm leaning towards her not being able to come home for whatever reason. :( JMO

Thanks tlcya and mamajojo, I alerted my post as it wouldn't let me edit it now.

Pregnancy isn't disallowed because it may or may not be scandalous. It's disallowed in this case because as posters we may discuss or theorize what's been released by MSM or LE only.

thanks CatFancier :) I was on a hunt for moderator posts in relation to the rules of this case discussion and you swept in and cleared that up post haste

I am still going to post links to searches highlighting the mods' previous posts for ease of locating their posts regarding what is or is not okay to discuss because this one has gotten so seemingly complex.

I was looking at some of the other cases where children had gone missing and it was unclear what had happened and I noticed that it was very normal for LE to have the family tell the child it was okay to return, that the child wasn't in trouble, in short to treat the situation as if the child were a runaway. I'm not sure why it's done, but it does seem to be the norm when a child goes missing and there is no evidence to support a runaway vs an abduction. I'm sure those who have been here longer can attest that this is often the case. My best guess is that it's a way to cover all the bases.
Another thing that has me puzzled is why Mom's letters have been handwritten and have been released through MSM while Dad's letters aren't handwritten and are posted on fb. Not sure why this is this case. It makes me wonder if there was some issues between AH and her father. It might explain why he hasn't been present at any of the press conferences. Often when there's a divorce a child will blame a parent, maybe she blamed her father and had been distant from him and they feel that having him be part of the process might drive her away further if she did leave on her own. I am very sorry about the post. I did not realize it was against TOS rules. It was just a theory as to why a 14 year old girl would run away on her own and then send a letter. This entire case does not make sense and it hasn't made sense since the get go and it seems to be moving way too slow. With all the technology out there today and you cannot tell me that LE does not have records of who she was texting and who she had been in contact with the day she went missing and the days prior. Something is just not right with this case and I only suggested a theory about the possibility of her being pregnant and did not state this was a fact but a possibility it would explain a lot if this is the case. I will be sure not to mention it again!!

Jade, don't sweat it. You will get your legs under you here. The site has pretty strict rules about fact vs rumor based speculation and theorizing. Otherwise it would be little more than a freeforall (like topix).

Til you are more familiar hang in :) And if you ever need to know the rules for a case discussion the basic ones can usually be found in the opening posts of that thread. For more indepth outlining of the rules just click the links in my signature.

The mods here are really good and willing to answer questions about what is allowed or not so if you ever have a doubt, they are willing to guide you.

Passing you the wet noodle! Nice to have a new face. :) Don't worry about mistakes, the mods here are very nice and helpful and they will let you know if there's a problem and that's the end of it. When I get modsnipped or a post gets deleted I just try not to make the same mistake again. Not to say I haven't, but I do try!

If a girl was so upset at family members that she decided to run off, why even bother to write a letter at all? Especially if she didn't want to be found?

Well maybe the LETTER made them LISTEN to her!
She probably explained why. I kind of think MOM knew she took off and this was why she called LE so fast!

I think she ran away. From reading some of the Twitter and Fb pages she went to I don't think the child was happy.

She wont be found unless she returns home on her own.
But I do think she is Alive and with someone!

Don't sweat it Jade, we all mess up sometimes, it's hard to remember what you can and can't say and it's easy to get confused. When I saw you post I just thought, yes that is what I have thought too and was explaining my reasons for that theory, forgetting it was not on the table for discussion. It's all cool. Luckily we have some awesome posters who let us know before things get too crazy and the mods are great too. :loveyou:

Now, where are you Abby?!?!

Law enforcement investigators had little reaction to statements last week by the father of Abigail Hernandez indicating that the missing 15-year-old ran away from home.

In a Christmas letter to Abigail last week, Ruben Hernandez included this statement to his daughter: "Abby I am assuming that you did run away," he wrote.

snip

FBI Agent Kieran Ramsey, one of the lead investigators in the missing person case, acknowledged that the investigation is considering the possibility that Abigail ran away, among several other possibilities.

"We aren't going to characterize his plea (to Abigail) in his letter one way or the other," Ramsey said.

snip

Asked to elaborate on his statement, Ruben Hernandez said he based his judgment on a letter that his daughter mailed to her mother after she disappeared.

snip

"I don't know if Abby ran away or not," Ruben Hernandez said. "As I stated in my first letter to her: 'We don't know if you ran away, but if you did … .'"

"Since a letter surfaced on Nov. 6, I'm just going to assume that she did (run away)," he said. "I hope this clarifies what I meant."

I hope you're right, but I have doubts.

Before receiving the letter, Mom said during an interview that there's no way Abby would run away. She said Abby was a happy girl, a good girl, and they had Birthday plans (Mom could be disconnected which is not uncommon with parents of teens)...

She didn't pack (as far as we know)...

She didn't leave a note at home the day she left (one if the reasons why LE acted as if she was abducted)...

She didn't leave a cell phone, text, or Internet trail for LE to follow (otherwise, she'd be home by now)...

Sudden and permanent disconnect from communications...

Letter took LE weeks to authenticate. They "believe" it's from her (leaving room for error)...

She missed her Birthday, Thanksgiving, and Christmas with her family and friends...

I read Abby's FB, Twitter, etc. I noticed her runaway vulnerabilities as well. However, those vulnerabilities, if they in fact exist, make her equally as likely to fall into the hands of a Internet-savvy predator.

If you consider the sites she read it's disturbing!
I do think she ran away and I think the letter explains why!

IMO, Dad's Christmas letter made/will make most of the interest in the case go away.

If Abby was kidnapped, this is a shame. But Dad has to know that, right?

Was he privy to the content of the letter to Mom? If so, I also think she is a runaway.

Except for that real and nagging fact--- Abby was 14. This is in the age group when predators can grab a young girls trust. So... I am really afraid for Abby.

The Case Archive for Abigail Hernandez (comparatively to others) has few views, but it is a good resource.

some cases aren't even getting that, and may have more to discuss than we currently do on Abby's. I pop in here from time to time but I've also accepted that at this point there's just nothing new to cover and it's down to the people on the ground.

I agree that we have beaten a dead horse with Abby's case. And, with no news from LE we are at a standstill. I was just struck by how few people were on this thread last night compared to another evening when there were 60 members and 50 guests. While her case may no longer be hot, nothing has changed; she is still missing just like she was in October.
