I cannot figure out how the cops could have spoken to her for 3 hours and not know if she was taken by force or not. She obviously is communicating if they made that sketch.
This whole thing is so fishy and makes absolutely no sense.
Now I am not bashing LE with what I am about to say; I am genuinely baffled. So we have this sketch and very vague description of him and his car. But we know that LE must have seen a postmark on the letter. And surely Abby had a general idea of where she was taken (as in, "we drove until it got dark" "we headed towards Maine"). I mean she is 15 so she must have a decent idea of where things are located relative to her home town, or how long it takes to get somewhere by car. Abby must have spoken to the man too. What kind of accent does he have? Is he a smoker?
I get that some things must be kept secret for purposes of the investigation, but if all they are going to release is a sketch that looks like an outline, and description of the man being in his 40's with dark hair and skin, then why did they release it at all? I cannot see how the public will find this man without a little more evidence, and we know that they must have some extra evidence. Their method makes no sense to me.
I don't think LE necessarily expects the public to find this man. Evidence is often released for other reasons - to put pressure on the perp., to calm an angry public, for example. Give them something to do and talk about while LE works.
The entire situation is beyond strange. The fact that she's home and not in the hospital is strange to me.
I just hope whatever this child has been through, she comes out the other side healthy mentally and physically.

i find that very strange too. I would imagine she's been checked out medically and we just don't know about it.
Guy in that photo doesn't match the age range of being in 40's and if you think it is him the BEST thing is to call it in and not post it publicly, because if the perp is here (as they typically are) well, now he knows
Perps might be here, and might not. We have no way of knowing. There's been really very few cases on here that a perp actually responded to postings, and the identity was known. Unless someone has a database of all our information when we registered, well then, how can one state that the perps are typically here??
We had the perp in the Abraham Shakespeare case on Websleuths. But typically, I think perps wouldn't necessarily come here , because so many other sites like news agencies, are talking about this case.
But it the bottom line is our efforts are unlikely to hurt the case because anything we are doing, the cops did with a whole team, and contacting parole officers, etc., within several hours.
I think what we are mostly doing is trying to solve it due to our interests in the case and solving puzzles- not necessarily because we think that if we don't do it, LE is not either.
But you never know. Web sleuthers have solved or helped solve various cases. If a perp suddenly moves because we were on to him, that would be a huge flag for LE.
If that was the case, why comment on her health at all? It is not like they have released much else. They could easily have avoided saying anything about her condition. Jmo
In these cases it is routine and necessary to immediately inform the concerned public- dead or alive and if alive, in the hospital or ok.
I don't find anything so contradictory about the statements. The kid is not dead and she apparently is able to talk and doesn't need on going hospital care. To LE who usually see bloated corpses, or pitiful skeletons or children's bodies riddled with torture marks, and so forth, being underweight, weak, traumatized and unable to eat solids foods, is definitely good condition.
