Hypothetically wondering, it is a crime for a minor to voluntarily disappear?

I am not sure but I do not think so. Most laws I have seen regarding missing minors are there to protect the minor. In these cases, the law cannot be used against the class of people it was meant to protect. For example, a man transports a woman across state lines for the purposes of prostitution; even if the woman agreed to go with him, he will be charged with a violation of the Mann Act, not her, as she is the class of people the law intended to protect.

(I can't help but think about the sketch released in Jessica Heeringa's case and how that has yielded absolutely zilch, not to mention the speculation in her case that the sketch itself might even be a red herring). In other words, I hope this sketch yields some results.

Statement from the Hernandez Family:

"The Hernandez family expresses their deepest thanks to the community, law enforcement and media for their continued support. The extent of our gratitude can hardly be expressed in words and we are beyond overjoyed about Abby’s return.
The last few days have been extremely busy while law enforcement and medical concerns have had to be addressed. We are working in full support of law enforcement’s efforts to help the ongoing investigation."

There are thousands of infertile couples advertising all over the Internet and newspapers. IF she was pregnant, it’s possible Abigail found an infertile couple willing to support her during her pregnancy. If it was an out-of-state couple and she lied about her age, they may not have known that she was a “missing person”. It’s also possible that a couple desperate for a baby wouldn’t care if she was a “missing person”.

“Amanda Smith, close friend of the family, has been able to spend time with Abby everyday since her return.

Abby is very thin and weak. We continue to work towards getting her to eat. Abby has shown incredible courage thru this. She is beyond grateful to be home and is just relaxing, resting, trying to get her health back. Abby is forever thankful to everyone who offered help, support and prayers. I am incredibly proud of Abby for everything she has and continues to overcome in this ordeal.”

Right now, Abby is resting, extremely tired and in deteriorated health, and has lost a lot of weight. She is working to build her strength back and we hope soon she will be back on solid foods

Abby, so many people are so glad you are home. No one can imagine what you have been through. You have made it this far and you are a very tough girl.

There is much love and light directed at you tonight. :heartbeat: :heartbeat: :heartbeat:

I thought of this as well, pensfan.

Back on solid foods? Dear God.
It's very interesting that she's not hospitalized. It certainly sounds like she needs a specialized diet and IV fluids.

The Berlin Daily Sun

Authorities release sketch of man who reportedly drove Abby Hernandez away last October - seek help identifying man

Attorney General Joseph A. Foster, Conway Police Chief Edward Wagner, New Hampshire State Police Colonel Robert Quinn and FBI Supervisory Senior Resident Agent in Charge William Scott O’Donnell announce that they are seeking information regarding the identity of the man depicted in the attached sketch. Law enforcement authorities have been provided information from Abigail Hernandez that the man depicted in the sketch drove her away on October 9, 2013, between 2:20 and 3:00 pm. At the time, the man was driving a navy blue pick-up truck on North South Road in Conway, north of the rotary. Abigail described the man as having darkish skin, dark brown eyes, black stubble facial hair, and a large build, who was slightly overweight and slightly taller than she was (5’4”).

<Mod Snip>

Because the investigation is on-going and there remain many unanswered questions regarding this case, the public is reminded to remain vigilant.

Anyone who recognizes the man depicted in the attached sketch is asked to contact the New Hampshire State Police at (603) 271-3636 or the Conway Police Department at (603) 356-5715.

Their statement does not match up with the statement from Jane (the atty general's office, re her being in "good health" when she arrived home):

Very few details were available Monday. Jane Young, of the Attorney General's office, said more information may be available for release on Tuesday.
Young did say that Abigail Hernandez is in "good condition," and she added, "She's been reunited with her family. They are ecstatic that she is home. We have investigators out working to find answers to all the questions, and our focus will continue to be that."

Back on solid foods? Dear God.

The whole statement made me want to cry. For Abby, and what she may have gone through and for all the doubt and probably unjust vitriol that has been published.
Poor Abby. I hope that she regains her strength soon. THis might explain why getting a coherent statement could be potentially a challenge.

Earlier it was said that she was in good health. Hmm.

If she has been starved, feeding her high caloric food will send her into shock which can be lethal. People who have been starved must be gradually introduced to foods with a planned/controlled diet. They will begin vomiting, having diarrhea, and be unable to absorb calories. They also need a medical plan for their vitamin and/or electrolyte deficiency.

Do we know that she's not? Conversely, perhaps it was determined to be in her best interest to treat her at home.
