Maybe he wore a mask when he was with her after the initial kidnapping and felt confident shed forgotten what he looked like.

Depends on what it's made of and what it's used for. With the trailer park and the nearby neighbors, it would not be uncommon for a backyard shed to be soundproofed if it was used for something noisy at odd hours of the night. Power equipment, musical instruments, etc. I've seen some comments that he used it as an indoor firing range.

It would also not be at all uncommon for a shed to be insulated, with heat and a/c.

Thanks. That is exactly what I needed. Context. In my area, to have a heated and/or ACd shed or garage means something. Affluence, a trade that required a separate work space at home, something like that. So it is really important for those like me who live in different climates, what the soundproofing might mean. So ranging from possibly windowless, to with AC/heat, electric, etc. in this container.

I am really anxious for what was taken and noted in the searches.

He must have thought she was not going to tell LE where he was, or he would have run. So maybe he convinced himself she was 'his friend' and was not going to turn him in. We have seen that in other cases here. where the kidnapped kids are slowly allowed some freedom.

I'm not offended, carbuff, but I don't agree with the characterization. I live in New Hampshire and my experience is different.

Small sheds are common in houses without garages, although we don't have either. Old farmhouses may have root cellars,

I only know of one house that has a shipping container, well actually it is the trailer from a tractor trailer. One neighbor has had a dumpster in his yard for the 20 years we've lived here. We're New Englanders so we mind of our own business and don't say anything to him. But we do notice it because it's unusual.

Kibby bought the mobile home new in 2009. It's 1000+ square foot and has a shed. So, yes, I do think it would be notable to neighbors, especially in a setting of mobile homes, that this guy had a red shipping container against the back of his mobile home.

Sorry, didn't mean all houses have shipping containers used as sheds, though I have seen quite a few of those. I meant the vast majority of rural houses I've seen have some sort of backyard shed. (Lived in NH for 16 years and still visit frequently.) I'm sorry if I sounded like I was overstating myself. I am not firing on all cylinders today :p

Neighbors: Shipping container was soundproof, Kibby used to shoot in there. Describe him as Crazy Nate, railed against govt.

Not surprised given his letters to the editor. I posted on the last thread about why the Freedom of Speech letter is scary to me.

Given the nature of the LTTE's he wrote to the local newspaper, you might want to check for his online presence at places like Free Republic, Red State, Breitbart, etc. I dont frequent those kinds of sites, but there are probably more like them.

After reading his letters and hearing the latest details, I get the impression of an authoritarian misogynistic (woman hating) type of personality. He seems like the type of male who feels threatened by women because they arouse him. Typical personality profile for rapists and sexual predators.

In fact, this guy seems very out of touch, so obsessed with radical Christianity that he may have been willing to let her go, simply because he didn't think his treatment of her was wrong. He probably sees himself as a martyr now.

Strange, barbaric and sick attitudes, but sadly not that unusual.

Bbm--huh. Maybe sheds some light on Ruben Hernandez' reference to Abby's favorite bible quote in his letter to her.

Eta-just to clarify I don't think LE knew who Kibby was at that time, but I do think there were clues as to his personality in Abby's letter home.

It will be so interesting to see what LE had to zero in on the suspect. It can't be that someone saw the sketch and called in a tip. Was it a neighbor who noticed suspicious behavior, electronic footprint, the dark truck. It is a miracle that Abby's home! It gives us hope that other long, long missing can come home alive.

Yes these are typically steel shipping containers converted to portable storage units. I knew of one used as an office addition at a warehouse. Finished and wired, you would never know the outside was a container!

I doubt this perp went that far but hopefully he had power and heat in it.

I am literally sick to my stomach thinking about her being in that container. It was such a long cold winter in this area.
I can't even imagine. It is a miracle she survived.

Sometimes it would be for a professional work space at home. It might be spare storage for a chest freezer or something like that. A garage big enough to let them work on a car in the winter. A woodshed, so you don't have to dig your firewood out of the snowdrifts in midwinter. A small shed for your lawn tractor and chainsaw.

Bodhi pointed out that I made it sound like everybody has a shipping container as a shed, and that wasn't what I meant at all :)

I know a teen band that made a rehearsal space in a huge storage container. It was pretty soundproof, but very hot when they closed the door. They had to put an expensive air con system in because all the speakers were so hot too.

It must have been so hot and then so cold for her.

Yes, and terribly disorienting. You would have no idea of the passage of time, day or night. I am surprised she is coherent.

I also wonder if the parts of her description/sketch that does not seem to match Kibby could be because of the type of lighting, if any. The eye color being different doesn't bother me. I would like to know how tall is.

This is an interesting idea to me because we do not see this use of containers like this here. If this is not unusual there it helps a great deal. As a treehugger :D this use of old storage container or railway car as very interesting. It is something I see on facebook, not something I see in my own backyard.

I think we're all reminded of Maura Murray and wonder if there were others.
Is there a way we could have a page for Abby to give her well wishes? I don't know if that's done on this site, but it would be so helpful for her to read our well wishes and I think cathartic for all of us too.

Maura's cousin posted on the CDS FB page that she hopes he will be looked at in Maura's case.

Here ya go!

Remember, everyone. This is a non-discussion thread. No back and forth. Well wishes only!

I copied some posts over already to get it started. If I copied one of yours already, don't be afraid to post again. :)

Why do you think it couldn't have been a tip based on the sketch?

Clearly this perp has an affinity for writing letters. He likes to write them himself, and he had Abby write one to her Mom.

My husband just said to me, "That's one creepy mugshot on the local news website.".

and all but one of them implying there was willful participation on her part, even after the news today.

very strange, they were not particularly sympathetic towards her or her mom at all, outside of mentioning that yes she is a minor and there is still a crime here regardless.
