I just used my ipad to try to find my daughter's iPhone 5 which is powered on and in the same room as me. the app found my ipad but didn't! find the iPhone. apparently I don!t know how to use the app properly and can imagine I am not the only one.
You have to log in to your daughters iCloud account to find her phone. I'm adamant with my son, I get his iCloud password or he gets a phone that doesn't work :-D I'm not so much worried about finding him (he is a good kid and a big boy, doubtful anyone would accost him) but he has misplaced many phones grrr.
Yes iPhone would need to be charged for find my phone app to work. If LE thinks someone has the phone...they should be constantly trying to find it with the app. As soon as it's turned on, they would get a location. Jmo
