Could've gotten lost in the mail. Not the likely case, but it happens. Maybe a lot of Halloween cards going out that weekend.

I really wish they would've said where the postmark was from.. I'm guessing that she mailed it to someone else and they didn't give it to the police right away.. When did Dad come on the scene?.. Was it mailed to his address?..

This info has me more worried then I was.. I was really hoping for some good news but now I'm feeling sick..

When I first saw ZH I thought she looked angry.. As it went on she looked so tired and I think she is about to lose it.. I wish I could send her some strength..

I really do believe that someone promised to make her dreams come true.. Maybe the letter was to reassure her Mom that she was ok and who ever has her wanted the search to stop.. When did the news conferences stop?..

I don't believe she is in NH now.. I'd be looking in Boston, NY, Providence and all other larger cities in NE where prostitution and strip clubs are..

Praying for her and her family..

So, basically, LE thinks she still has her purse and her necklace but NOT her iPhone. Since they asked people to look for it in Conway, they must have a reason to believe it was lost or thrown away there and not where she is now.

After Sighsister and Wolfdreamer's post... I'm at a loss. I thought for sure they thought she was local, but who knows. Was this presser carried nationally ? I understand we are all watching it but did anyone else in any state ?

Maybe it was mailed from a local po with some language like ' by the time you get this i'll be long gone...... ' etc?

But I will hold fast to this is good news and they believe she's alive and that is a great day!

They were very vague about where she could be. I don't recall them saying she was local.

13 days is such a long time for a letter to be received IMO. But then again I'm in the UK where most post arrives the next day because we're so small. :D I don't know how it works over there, but here there will be a delay if not enough postage was paid and you have to pick it up from the post office. I always take days to get round to going because our nearest place is a two mile walk away.

I really hope this brings forward some new information. People have to start talking.

Ranch, you are a wise one. What do you think?

I think Abby left with someone she knows and that person is dangerous by the simple fact that Abby hasn't been brought home.

I think she is with someone she knew online. If so, she could have been lured fro traffickign purposes.

Even if that is not the case, with no income, at JUST turned 15 she must be with an adult. No teen friend could have hidden and supported her for this long IMO which means she has an adult assisting her and who knows what that adult's motivations are but they are not good if you are going to continue to hide away an missing teen girl who the whole country has been talking about ad looking for for over a month now.

Im betting the letter told the mom she is ok. Sounds like she doesnt want to go home.

Perhaps at the time the letter was written, she felt that way. Perhaps she was coerced to feel that way by an adult. Perhaps now she no longer does but it's too late to get out of whatever situation she's in.

Yes, I heard the 13 days as well. That seems like an awfully long time though. Even when I sent a postcard from Finland to Boston it arrived in under a week. Though I'm at a loss as to what could hold it up like that after being postmarked.

Someone with their own postage machine or access to one. I have one. It spits out a date on the postage and never gets another postmark. I know because I get returned SASEs all the time as well as correspondence from other atrorneys with their own postage meters. But I could stamp it and hold it, not mailing it for days or even months.

I wonder if the letter was written and posted by Abby to another person, who then forwarded it on to her mom. That would explain why it took 13 days to arrive.

It seemed like the DA was being very careful in choosing the words she used to describe how ZH received the letter.

I think that's likely too, Claire.

If that is the case, my best guess is that it was sent to her mother's BF on the island in the Pacific. It takes quite a bit longer for mail to be delivered to remote bases. And that would jive with his 'we didn't see this coming' comment.

Or, it could have been addressed to her mother but at a different address like perhaps her father's. Since AH's father is only a part-time resident, perhaps he has a post office box and it was sent there.

ZH and the girls moved several times and perhaps AH did not know the mailing address, only the physical address. The condo complex that ZH lives in probably has a name that AH is familiar with but that is not the mailing address. That could have delayed it in the post office or lead to misdelivery.

The letter could have been misdelivered or misaddressed to a different condo in the complex, since some are only occupied as second homes or rentals.

Perhas the letter was addressed to her mother at her work address. After Abigail disapperared, people who know ZH through her job probably sent cards and notes to that address. And the AH letter was one of a bunch received there and set aside for ZH.

Lots of scenarios.

Glad to know that Abby was alive as of Oct. 22nd. But that was quite a while ago.

Whomever this adult is who is harboring her is pretty savvy - had her discard her phone in Conway, managed to delete or disguise any communication during the planning of this, has evaded even the FBI for 2 months, etc. This person isn't stupid.

CONCORD, N.H. (CBS) — Calling it “unprecedented,” law enforcement officials announced during a news conference on Friday that a missing New Hampshire teenager who disappeared two months ago on her way home from school wrote a letter to her mother that was postmarked two weeks after her disappearance.

Police say an extensive examination of the letter, which was dated October 22 and postmarked October 23, indicates it most likely came from 15-year-old Abigail Hernandez, who remains missing. Investigators say the letter was received on November 6.

Authorities refused to disclose its contents or indicate where it may have been sent from, saying they are concerned the information could produce hoax letters.

I took from this just to mean that she may have put it in her school bag, if that's the other vs missing. When I was in high school, that's what I would do

That's how I took it also, throwawaystyle. Not that she had packed.

Of course, kicking myself now for not thinking of this. We have a franking machine at work and although you're not really supposed to, you could put the postage on there and not actually drop it off until later.

This is only slightly better than her lying somewhere in the woods. It has all the earmarks of coercion, manipulation and control. Someone convinced her that whatever difficulties she faced are far more grievous than they really are - that it is far better to leave everything - to leave her home, her Mom, her sister, her boyfriend, her school friends, her jammies, her puppies, her pillow, her safety and security.
A child does not make the decision to 'go dark' on her own without the help. With no trace, no electronic trail and no financial means it is an obviously well thought out and complete plan and has got to be at the hands of someone mature, experienced and vile in their motives. What teen thinks of using USPS mail to communicate and then send it in such a convoluted way as to delay it's receipt? That takes experience.
While she was alive as of Oct 22, no one knows her status today.
This is very grave indeed.

Just my opinions

The fact that she hadn't packed is odd. If she was planning on running away you would think she would take something with her, extra clothes, momentos, something.

That makes me think she didn't intend to be gone for long, or she intended to meet this person but not leave even for the night.

I think Abbie was abducted by a stranger. I think the letter was written by the kidnapper and today's PC was an attempt by le to get the kidnapper to make another move.

Maybe there's reason to believe she may be with people who travel (job) or have the ability to travel at a moment's notice (family)... Maybe why a location wasn't given?

  • #818
I'm pretty sure they could track a postage machine insignia. If it was private or from a company rather than the post office, they could track it very quickly.

My sister worked for Post Office and she said just by putting the wrong zip code could delay the mail. Maybe she deliberately put wrong zip code on the letter as a sign she is in trouble??

:please: :please:
