Harmony Montgomery's Mother Speaks to Court TV

Crystal Sorey told #CourtTV that her missing daughter, Harmony Montgomery, was afraid of her father and said the 5-year-old called him "Adam," not "Dad."

I get so upset reading what happened to this poor baby. Knowing she had a brother and family that wanted to adopt her is heartbreaking. How she ended up where she did, was it because of the pandemic at the time? How can people ignore a family with children living out of a car? I apologize if this has been discussed, as I said the reports disturb me so I have to stop reading.

I saw Kayla Montgomery’s mother had been interviewed in the beginning. I haven’t heard about Crystal’s family or Adams family.
If these people exist where were they when their adult drug addicted children were living out of cars with their grandchildren? I’m not blaming them , but you can see what a mess KM was. I would not be ok having my daughter and granddaughter living out of cars! Not to mention having several children, living out of cars, drug addicted and living with an abusive felon.
How can you not intervene as a paren and grandmother? I know I can’t. I don’t know a thing about drug addiction, I just can see they needed an intervention.

KM's mother did take in her daughter and the children but not without problems from Adam where she even sought a protection order to no avail when he could not be served. And then KM went back to her abuser. Also, please see the Media Only thread for best source of info for OP's questions.

A proposed commission to study and potentially recommend changes to how child ‘care and protection’ cases are handled in Massachusetts is back on the table on Beacon Hill.

The ‘Harmony Commission’ would examine how to balance the rights of parents without jeopardizing the wellbeing and safety of children. It also would study how these cases disproportionately impact children of color, immigrant children, children with disabilities, LGBTQ children and children from low-income backgrounds.

The commission is named in honor of Harmony Montgomery, the 5-year-old Massachusetts foster child was murdered, allegedly by her biological father in New Hampshire.

Exactly! A responsible grandparent could have at the very least gone for custody of the children.

I guess there were no actual grown-ups in this crowd

If I remember correctly, one of Adam's selling points to CFS was that they had a nice family home to welcome Harmony. I believe the home was purchased by Adam's mother, and she lost the house to foreclosure when AM/KM failed to pay rent as promised. When this story first broke, they were essentially squatting on the property, using illegal power --a generator hooked up to a neighbor's place.

Addicts such as this couple have no respect for anybody or anything but their drug of choice and won't stop at anything not to be without product. IMO, I think AM only took custody of Harmony because he thought he could use this child for a steady, monthly income by getting her qualified for disability benefits (partial blindness).

I previously linked the report where Kayla and the children moved in with her mother not long after they became homeless while waiting for Families in Transition placement but AM made that difficult for them.

I also recall in between the time KM and the kids were living with KM's mother, AM's girlfriend moved into the car with him. And she died shortly before/after he was arrested -- another addict.

No, this is not the fault of the senior family members. This couple used, drained, and abused, anybody that was charitable towards them. I guess we'll eventually learn what the grandmother told the grand jury. JMO

And there you have the bald truth.

He tool Harmony as a source of income. She herself was an inconvenience to him. Give up custody? Let her have a family who would love, nurture, protect and grow her into adulthood? There was no money in that for him.

He wanted drugs.

She just wanted to be loved.

In 2018, Congress passed a resolution calling on states to reform family courts to ensure judges were making rulings that put a child’s safety first in custody cases.

Since then, more than 200 children have been murdered by a parent whom a family court awarded sole custody despite having either evidence or conviction of child abuse against them. According to the Department of Justice, a total of more than 800 have been murdered by a parent in the United States over the past decade.

Reminder-AM's sentencing on the weapons convictions is Monday August 7.

AM is also deemed an armed career criminal and guilty on all 6 counts will rack up the penalty! This creature never deserved a family....

From the quoted link:

Montgomery is charged separately with killing his daughter Harmony Montgomery. That trial is scheduled to start in November.

Montgomery's attorneys are requesting two back-to-back sentences of 10-20 years on the armed career criminal charges, with credit for the 1½ years he has spent in jail. His team is asking for suspended sentences for the theft charges.
