Sorry to hear about that. Honestly though I never even knew that Maura had another sister aside from Julie.

Now if she was having an affair with a married guy traveling somewhere where they wouldn't be recognized would make more sense.

I like the idea, but her phone records don't indicate or show any calls to one unknown number frequently.

Basically it sounds like it is a way for different jurisdictions to communicate with each other a little easier.

Yep. Without it Maura's body could easily be in a refrigerator some where labeled Jane Doe.

I looked at the FBI VICAP web site. Including Maura, there's currently 84 missing person cases. A couple I recognized, but some were pretty old and obscure, and have no WS threads. Can someone please fill me in on what info this shares that NamUs doesn't facilitate? Is this now an active FBI investigation?
ETA Maura is not yet on their page, so she would make it 85.

This video by the FBI pretty much explains the ViCAP system and the way it works. Basically, it's a tool that is available for all U.S LE agencies to enter their cases into a national database to uncover possible links to other unsolved cases throughout the country. The FBI or ViCAP doesn't ''take over'' the investigation though. It's just a tool for law enforcement.

ViCAP differs from NamUs as it covers unsolved homicides, sexual assaults and and unidentified and missing persons. According to the FBI as of 2016, there are 85,000 cases uploaded into the system. Only a few of them are featured on the FBI website.

Thanks! I should have looked beyond their "featured" page and dug a little deeper. FWIW Maura is now featured on it.

Here's my opinion regarding Maura's trip up north:

Maura was afraid, very afraid of being kicked out of school. So, she did what anyone of us would do at 21. She looked back into her past in order to come up with a solution. And that is - transfer schools.
Burlington, VT is well known for UVM. UVM has a nursing program that is pretty generous for acceptance rate and transfer applications are due in like May. Assuming she isn't familiar with the area, it would stand to reason that she was looking to go someplace familiar that evening (Bartlett and areas of NH) and then travel onward to Burlington the next day. Stowe would be a good area to secure for the following night/nights if she intended to tour UVM campus, scope out living facilities etc. Plus she packed overnight/travel items and school work - this leads me to believe she was committed to her career path.
What happened on February 9, 2004 on Rte 112? I don't know. Everything is unsavory and uncomfortable to me to settle on just one opinion. I think, in my mind, I've ruled out suicide and starting another life.

But I do think her reason for travel, although rushed, was for mundane reasons and not as nefarious or glamorous as some of the theories floating around that I've sifted through.

Honestly, the amount of alcohol doesn’t really shock me. I mean some mixed drinks take a few different types of liquor. And just because you buy a whole bottle or box (of wine) doesn’t mean you have to chug it in one sitting. Do you think she had intentions of sleeping in her car? I didn’t ever think that based on her searching for lodging in NH/VT. I suppose I’m inserting my bias and personal experience here but packing shampoo, toothpaste, brush etc makes me believe she was anticipating accommodations of some sort.

good thoughts all..I don't think they ever found a reservation in her name..but maybe at some places you don't need one..you can just pull up and check in..mOO
