The “coward of a man” 17-year-old driver accused of fatally striking two New Jersey teen girls on their e-bike was planning the attack for months, the girls’ grieving families said Wednesday night.

The loved ones of Maria Niotis and Isabella Salas insisted the deadly crash was far more depraved than a simple accident, and that the driver was targeting Maria specifically.

‘Coward of a man’ accused of killing NJ teens in hit-and-run planned attack ‘for months,’ girls’ families say

This story has been in the news in the NJ/NYC area. Suspect is 17 years old. He went on live stream on Tuesday and was talking about how his family was being "threatened" and there is "more to the story." The police arrested him yesterday, charged him with 1st degree murder. His uncle is a police chief in NJ, and there are rumors his father is a cop.

A 17-year-old boy from Garwood — a small borough next door to Cranford — was arrested near the crash scene, and on Wednesday authorities said he was charged with two counts of first-degree murder.

He has not been named by the Union County Prosecutor’s Office.

MOO: I live 10 minutes away and am awed at how the father, a police officer who was focused on juvenile issues, failed to notice that his 17yo son, who had been expelled from HS and then matriculated at a neighboring high school, spent months stalking a girl who lived five blocks away. Her neighbors say he sat in his car on the street, staring at her house, for months on end.

My first job out of college was in Cranford, so this immediately caught my attention...

After watching the video, I take it he doesn't have a lawyer yet.

If you haven't seen it, your blood's gonna boil. First, kudos to those who logged into the chat and gave him s---. Second, LE totally failed these two, just like the veterinarian in Franklin Twp (Hunterdon) a few weeks ago. The nerve of this guy. Doing an MLB2K25 live stream within hours of being charged with double-homicide is appalling enough to turn a jury against you even before seeing the other evidence. Then he spends the first 10 minutes whining about all of the "negativity" in the chat (he'd better get used to it, because that's just the first 10 minutes of what he's gonna hear for the rest of his life). He's more bummed about the Yankees as he is about the two kids he mowed down. (They don't get the YES Network where he's going.) Finally, towards the end he acknowledges the "senseless tragedy", but blames bullies and the State of NJ for not "doing enough" for mental illness. 🤬 you, dude. He just acknowledged how tragic and senseless the situation was, he knows right from wrong. He had months to decide to do wrong.

He may well have coached his son to do that.

Kids have to do some REALLY terrible things nowadays to get expelled from school!

I wouldn't point fingers at the parents at this point.

This is the suspect’s YouTube page

At 2:09:45 he starts talking about Maria (one of the victims), ordering the pizza to her house, and how he has a “vengeance” against her

ETA: his comment at 2:38:48  absolutely chilling and possibly another motive

2:20:37 talks about his number being untraceable and how his uncle (Westfield police chief) is Maria’s cousin’s boss

2:15:24 after he orders the pizza to Maria’s house, his friend suggests he goes to her house to see her reaction. He says “I did that the last time, but the mother saw me pull up in the car and I got tracked and the police did what they did”

Vengeance??? For what???

And what's the point of the pizza? She has no obligation to pay...

Vengeance is the word he uses when talking about her. He says in the video that he’s upset at her and her mom for filing a police report against him for sending unsolicited p*rn

He also expresses anger that she didn’t show remorse for Charlie Kirk’s murder saying: "Hey, whenever Maria sees the pizza guy come, better think of Charlie Kirk for making fun of his f*cking death. Stupid a** clown. Just remember that."

The point of the pizza, though extremely juvenile, was simply to harass and bother her IMO. He ordered saying that they would pay with cash at the door so I’m not sure if she would have an obligation to pay or not

He expected a different response to sending that?

Oh god, what does he care if someone doesn't show remorse for the death of someone they've never met? I didn't know anything about him except his name until he was shot. It was horrific, and you're a sick individual if you think it's a joke or some sort of karma, but I went about life as usual. I didn't have a moment of silence or anything.

No, you don't have an obligation to pay until you take it out of their hands and bring it through the door. Otherwise, you could send literally anything to someone and they would have no choice but to pay

RSBM

I daresay it'll turn out like most cases of this kind - boy/man makes advances, girl/woman turns him down, boy/man decides that girl/woman bruising his ego is an offense worthy of death.

I think it already did

Looks like in NJ you only have a probationary license at 17, and if I'm interpreting this correctly, you need an over-21 passenger with an NJ license (no driving alone or at certain hours)?

He probably also thought he could get away with all of this because he was under 18.

Didn't anyone ever sit him down and tell him to find someone else, and let it go?

"I do unequivocably condemn the actions of the accused, and like you, I demand that he face the consequences of his alleged actions in a court of law. As a law enforcement officer, I maintain full faith and confidence in our criminal justice system, and that it will ensure he is held fully accountable. I, too, pray for these families. I, too, demand full accountability and justice," he said.

The family seems eager to wash their hands of the accused.

The death of these girls is horrific :(
So young and loved by many.
Full of plans and enthusiasm for life.
But robbed of the future 😞

Rest In Peace Young Ladies.
Sincerest Condolences to Families.

The NJ probationary license at 17 allows for unsupervised driving but has certain restrictions.
