I think they normally give money to the organizer. Organizer is the one who provides information when setting up the campaign. So in most cases beneficiarly wouldn't be even able to log into the campaign, unless organizer gives them the log in information. Their refund policy implies organizer is responsible for transferring funds to the beneficiary. Of course in their recent statement they claimed beneficiary is the one who is usually getting the money. So go figure this one out.
I agree completely.

It very well may have been a disaster. However, it was his money. If the couple wanted to put strings on the money, they should have listed the beneficiary as a trust for Bobbitt, then had an actual trust set up for him. But they didn't.

I just can't help but shake my head at this couple. I gave them the benefit of the doubt for a long time, but now I don't think there is much doubt. Did they really think they could just take that money and no one would know or care? I do wonder if the man's gambling had a big roll in this. Maybe he thought he could use that money to place a big bet, win, skim off the proceeds and put the $400,000 back. But, instead he lost.

They got greedy. And now I hope they get charged with theft and fraud.

I agree completely.

A friend of mine started a go fund me for someone and the company stated they would not release the funds to anyone except the person named as the beneficiary. So my friend got in contact with him and arranged for him to supply his banking information.

Wow. This cat is blithely hitting golf balls on his lawn while they execute the search warrant? That says a lot to me about his lack of character. I'd be on the phone with my lawyer or family or upset and worried.
Came off so arrogant to me.

Well, the money wasn't going to do what the donors thought it would. He wasn't going to come off the street or the drugs. In one year he had a camper to live in and $75K - $200K to spend and he is no better off now than he was when he gave her that $20.

He'll be dead in a year with all that money.

Reality.

The money was just too tempting and they just couldn't let it go for drugs. I get it. But, it didn't belong to them.

I would give about 0.00 to any 🤬🤬🤬.

There's a remedy for that. At the beginning I'm sure they could've convinced him to hire a trustee and put the money in a trust for his benefit. That can still happen now via court order. And it should.

I think he says they kept the camper. And kicked him off their property?

And I don't think he agrees he ever got 200k.

The good thing is that 🤬🤬🤬 is going to make sure he gets the $400,000. They will pony up the money. They just need to find out how much he already actually got. That may actually take some time since I don't think the couple is talking and Bobbitt probably has poor records and isn't really believable either. But they have put up $20,000 for now. I really hope that Bobbitt's attorney can convince Bobbitt to let him set up a trust to put that money in while he gets his life back on track. Like everyone, I am very interested in what this couple actually did with the money and hope they get what they deserve. But I am more interested in seeing that Bobbitt gets help and we see at least one homeless guy get a new start (again).

With some better guidance this time.

Maybe cases like this one made them do it this way. Because their refund policy implied organizer was responsible for delivering funds to the beneficiary. And obviously in the case we are discussing, they let organizer to get all the funds.

Camper was in their name and parked on their property. So I presume they kept the camper when he was asked to leave their property. He certainly doesn't agree he got $200,000, he claims it was $75,000.

They should have just returned the $20. Or better yet, not run out of gas. Seriously, who runs out of gas with zero money, no debit or credit card? People who have money problems already.

Pretending to help the poor then taking from them instead is a time-honored way of making America great again.

Yeah it was long before this case. And maybe. I'm confused why this was given tothe organizer. How was it worded? The fund?

From the beginning, I've wondered if she was out trolling for an opportunity like this.

Maybe I'm too much of a cynic.

Money might have been spend on shoes and vacations.
"She said that a forensic accountant will sift through the account and verify the allegations. “But now that they say there is no money, where did it go?”"
GoFundMe couple allegedly spent homeless man's money on shoe collection, pricey vacations: report

Hey honey, the homeless veteran might spend the money on drugs. I have a better idea, lets buy a closet full of shoes, hit the casino, and go on vacation (said with sarcasm).

I think they truly believed they were never going to get caught because anyone with a teensie tiny amount of common sense would never blow $300,000 of money they raised for someone else :P

The letter came to light Monday when Dow granted the stay in the civil case until December.

"(Since) it is expected that one or both of the defendants will likely be indicted, my firm and I will no longer be able to continue our representation of them in this matter," Badway wrote.

Attorney for defendant: indictment likely

One more:

The New Jersey couple whose GoFundMe campaign for a hero hobo raised $400,000 kept him living like a hungry pauper in a trailer in their driveway while they splurged on vacations and a shoe collection to rival Imelda Marcos, his lawyer told The Post.

Is there no way to find out what the charges are?
