"The investigation quickly revealed a number of inconsistencies in the teen's statement. Specifically it was discovered that a person called a local taxi company asking for a car at Alongi's address around the same time the Twitter message was posted. Later, the driver positively identified Alongi as the fare he picked up and said he drove her to the Rahway Train Station, dropping her off a few minutes later.

At this point additional information will only be released via email or the Clark Police Department Website at www.ourclark.com <http://www.ourclark.com> "

so...IMO the only place she would go (other than a friend's via another local stop) is new york. does she know anyone in the city i wonder?

There has been no activation of the Amber Alert system. This is being treated as a missing person's case and not necessarily a criminal investigation.

Kara might feel that she will be in trouble if she comes home after this scare and causing a panic. At this point all everyone cares about is seeing her safe and at her house where she belongs.

We urge anyone who might know where Kara is to contact the Clark Police Department or send an anonymous tip to Union County Crime Stoppers at 908-654-TIPS, www.uctip.org <http://www.uctip.org> or Text UCTIP plus a message to 274637.

Checking in before I left for work. Relieved to see that Kara was not really abducted. Saddened to know she has so little respect, but she is just a kid and kids make mistakes.

I find it ironic that a false abduction garnered the highest number of guests I personally, have ever seen at Websleuths (3700 +). There are missing cases I would give anything to have 3,700 people interested in.

My thoughts are with Kara's parents. I hope she is found safe and they take her internet privileges away and put her on restriction until she's 18.

A hoax? Seriously, wow...that is just so wrong!!
While clearly, this girl needs mental help if she really did such a thing...would it also be a criminal for her to have done this?

Clark police were flooded with an estimated 6,000 phone calls after Alongi's tweet spread across the internet.

"It sent more manpower (down) these wrong-way streets," Scherb said. "It hampers us because we have to follow up on bogus leads."

Scherb said the department even received calls from psychics offering their help in finding Alongi.

As to the influence social media had on the case, Scherb said, "I'm sure this will be a case study down the road."

I agree that some times kids have something more going on in the home environment and everything. However there are also kids that are just straight up brats who come from good families. If this girl staged this kidnapping them she should be held accountable for her actions. Especially since this has gone completely viral in news outlets. I mean I hope she is found safe but it does sound like she staged the whole thing according to what police are saying. You would not believe some of the little brats I have come across that live her who I know for a fact come from good families. I hope that Kara is found safe and that she gets the help that she so obviously needs.

This makes me so mad and sad after investing so much time to this girl. I really hope she is punished for this. Maybe they should make her spend some time looking into all the REAL missing kids out there.

I'm totally empathetic to most runaway teens (I was one myself, lol) but this girl just seems like an attention-seeking brat. Her Tweets do not paint a rosy picture of her at all. Lots of mean girl stuff, racism, anti-semitism....yuck.

Hope she is found safe, but man, it chaps my hide that she is getting all this attention when there are so many more deserving MP cases that never get anything close to this kind of coverage.

And... Her behavior (faking intruder) implies some counseling may be needed.

And perhaps a swat to the backside....as well as a serious grounding of all fun activities for a time.
This is serious stuff. She needs to read "The Boy Who Cried Wolf."
Now, all that being said, I hope she is safe and they find her. She is very young. I think she needs assistance to help her with her issues.

Hoping all these guests that have been checking will notice just how many others are missing. Turn this frustration into a positive by tweeting about one of the many others. They need an army too! Be their advocate!

I do hope Kara is safe out there and contacts her family soon.

This is from an article:

This morning TV trucks and news media lined the street outside her Clark home, though most dispersed after police sent out a press release saying Alongi had run away voluntarily.

Any mention of how much money she had

Teens like her are one of the reasons LE classify so many as runaways. Thanks a lot, Kara! Not

Thanks button wasn't enough!

I was hoping that many of the guests would decide to help with all the other Missing Persons cases on Websleuths!

This is really hitting a nerve with me because when I was 16 I actually WAS abducted. I got away from him and called 911, went to the hospital, had documented injuries, was interviewed by police and gave a solid description of the perp and his car, his first name, the name of the motel he took me to, and they did not take it seriously or believe me until hours later when they found him and discovered he had done it before. The girl in the previous case was not believed either-they assumed both of us were just runaways, and/or trying to get attention.

This kind of behavior hurts legitimate crime victims. She needs to be held accountable.
