My heart breaks for his family, so much like Chris Sexton's case. I wonder if he had any broken bones.

Condolences to his family, loved ones and friends

Officials: Body of missing Marine vet found in Clementon lake CLEMENTON, N.J. (WPVI) --
Camden County officials are investigating how a missing former U.S. Marine ended up dead in a lake. No one had seen or heard from him since he disappeared six weeks ago.

It was back on the night of Dec. 2, 2016, that 29-year-old Lance James of Clementon, New Jersey, went missing.

Area search and rescue teams, including Burlington County K-9 Search & Rescue, had been scouring the area, looking for him to no avail. But they weren't going to give up.

"We try to be very persistent when we get involved in a case, and we don't wanna stop until it's done," said Thomas Yohanson, Burlington County K-9 Search & Rescue.

Family members say James served two tours of duty in the Middle East and when he returned, he suffered symptoms of post-traumatic stress disorder.

"At that time, there was some ice on the lake and on the other bodies of water that were around, which kind of limited our ability," said Yohanson.

They went back on Saturday, under snowy conditions, with the help of 15 U.S. Marines, but still nothing. But then came the warmer weather we've had the last couple days, and they decided to go back to Bottom Lake - this time the ice had melted.

"We deployed our Marine unit, and several moments after that, we were able to make the discovery," said Yohanson.

JessicaH - My heart goes out to you and your family. I'm a Marine Corps brat. My dad is a Marine Corps vet from Vietnam and was also a field radio tech. I know your family must be reeling from this news. With a father that was also a field radio tech I know how hard it is to survive a tour as a tech. I'm so sorry this happened to him after he came home where he should have been safe. I pray for strength and healing for you and your family - and pray you get answers (and justice if needed) to this tragedy soon. Semper Fi.

The K-9 search team that helped find the body of a missing veteran reportedly won't get the $6,000 reward his family crowdfunded online.

The family said that the reward was for information that could lead to James, not for the discovery of his body. They said they offered the K-9 group a lower amount, but the group members said they knew nothing about that.

The news station reported that the Gofundme money would help James' daughter, 5, and pay for funeral expenses.

Pretty cheesy, in my opinion

It seems like this is becoming a trend, to only offer a reward for locating a living person. Perhaps I have only just had my attention called to the details of the rewards recently and it has always been that way. Many SAR groups will search for free if asked, I know mine does. We rely on donations to pay for training, our equipment, and the cost of the search. Granted, the reward would make a nice donation into the general fund.

Perhaps the thought is that with her father deceased that the reward would be better served being invested for her future.

As long as the terms of the reward are clearly stated pre-search then I'm okay with it. They did offer a portion to the search group.

Jessica, I'm very sorry for the loss of your brother. My heart has gone out to you since I saw he was missing, especially so close to his birthday and Christmas. It's going to be a really hard year as you go thru the 1st holidays, birthdays etc without him. My dad has been gone 11 years next week from cancer, the pain in my heart feels like yesterday.

I agree 100%, this is happening way too much. Before I posted I wanted to make sure I went to the go fund me to read exactly what it said. It's been cleaned up; the only way to read it is to go to google cache.

You have to read what she says the reward is for, basically the person that finds Lance, which the SAR team did, they should get the reward. She then has updates, which I'm also posting below. Update 5 confuses me, she says Lance was not brought home. Here is the part - We would like the chance to offer everyone who has donated the opportunity to request a refund. It was raised to bring him home and we don't judge anyone who like a refund since it didn't do that. The money that remains donated will go toward funeral expenses for Lance James and any remaining amount will be turned into Savings for his daughter Gabby that was left behind without her Daddy. Next read update 6.

My opinion is that she should have opened another go fund me for funeral expenses and something for his daughter with the original reward minus fees to the team that did find Lance. I understand there were many teams that searched but they did not find Lance, this one team did. I'm totally stumped why they do not get the reward.

Have to run to get my grandson from preschool.

Lance James just turned 29 on December 10th, he is approx. 5’8, 180 lbs. Lance has brown hair and brown eyes as well as several distinguishing tattoos. He also has reddish brown facial hair. He was last seen leaving the Hideaway Tavern approx. 930-1000 pm in a white undershirt and blue jeans, possibly black Timberland Boots.

This GoFundMe account is being created to offer a reward leading to Lance’s whereabouts. Any information provided that directly results in finding Lance will be rewarded with the funds raised from this GoFundMe account (minus the GoFundMe fees). We are hopeful that offering a monetary reward for his whereabouts will help bring forth information that has not yet been provided. Lance has already been missing for 13 days and the weather is significantly declining. The need to get information quickly is paramount, we are hoping raising funds quickly will encourage those with information to come forward.

Update 6 - Posted by Jessica H - 12 days ago
Just to clarify and post an update to comments or messages we have received regarding the funds. As it is directly stated on this GoFundMe "This GoFundMe account is being created to offer a reward leading to Lance’s whereabouts. Any information provided that directly results in finding Lance will be rewarded with the funds raised from this GoFundMe account (minus the GoFundMe fees). We are hopeful that offering a monetary reward for his whereabouts will help bring forth information that has not yet been provided."

We were directly asked by one of the search teams to donate funds toward their team since they work on a Volunteer Basis.

Please NOTE, using funds for anything other than what it was intended for or stated as would be unethical and against rules. When word was received and confirmed that our brother had passed, we posted an update offering each DONOR a refund since no one had come forward which was the intention of the money or we asked permission for their donation to be used toward Funeral expenses and to setup a savings fund for his 5 year daughter who is now without her Dad. I requested permission from every DONOR to do this with THEIR money.

We told one of the teams we would make a small donation, but understand they are NOT the only team. We had several organizations and volunteers also offer countless hours and searches on our behalf as well as many individual people do so as well so to give to one and not the other? Not to mention no one else is asking so why just one group? Why are people who did NOT donate trying to tell us what to do with the money via Facebook Messenger or leaving comments here. Have some respect ! What to do with the money is at the discretion of our family and the donors ONLY!

Update 5 - Posted by Jessica H - 15 days ago
It is with a very heavy heart we have to announce that Lance James was found. It was not the circumstances under which we had hoped for. Instead of planning a welcome home, we are planning a funeral. This Campaign was started in hopes of information to where he was. At this point our campaign will be ending soon. We would like the chance to offer everyone who has donated the opportunity to request a refund. It was raised to bring him home and we don't judge anyone who like a refund since it didn't do that. The money that remains donated will go toward funeral expenses for Lance James and any remaining amount will be turned into Savings for his daughter Gabby that was left behind without her Daddy. With that being said we have raised the goal to allow anyone a chance to continue to donate toward Lance and Gabby. To those who would like a refund, it will remain private and you can reach me privately through the contact here for this campaign, there is absolutely no judgement and no one will know. We request everyone who wants the refund to request before Friday so that we can withdraw the money for the expenses and savings fund. No contact will assume your continued donation.
Thank you for all the support we received during this hard time.

So after giving this quite a bit of thought I can see both sides of this. My first reaction was that the "reward" was rigged. However, after much thought and reading through the revisions of the 🤬🤬🤬 I have mixed feelings. I'm hung up on a volunteer search team asking for reward money. I can understand a team asking for a donation, but I think that should be done up front, when it really comes across as an actual donation, and not after the fact, when it looks more like they're not actually in it only as volunteers but also for the reward. If that's the case, I have a problem with volunteers only working for a reward - their not really volunteers in that situation.

I'm sure people will disagree and this is all probably just due to the timing of the team's request being bad timing. If a volunteer team appreciates a donation they should say so up front, IMO.

I wish Jessica would come back to tell us what happened. I did even more reading; including looking for reviews of Burlington County SAR; can not find any bad reviews.

From what I read they searched a bunch of times; they were determined to search that lake.

SAR's run off of donations; they need money for various things; they just did a fund drive to replace equipment; they also have fund raisers for other organizations. It sounds like they asked for a donation but didn't get one but they still kept searching or that's what I'm reading. Had they gotten the reward it would have gone towards what they needed as well as helped them search for others. Hopefully they raised enough money for what they needed

I spend many hours a day helping families for free. I can't imagine being boots on the ground; spending money on gas and working in the elements. I'm disabled so could not do it; I give those that do a lot of credit.

I mostly dislike that this will forever be tied to Lance's memory.
