GUILTY NJ - Martin Caballero, 47, Atlantic City, 21 May 2010

WHAT IS 51 STORIES TALL AND has 17 entrances, 2,000 doors, 20,000 locks, 1,100 surveillance cameras, eight K-9 patrol teams, 120,000 square feet of gaming space, 1,250 guest rooms, 3,008 slot machines, 160 gaming tables . .

That's right--the Trump Taj Mahal Casino Resort in Atlantic City, NJ.

Burke oversees a wide array of security responsibilities. They include 300 uniformed security officers, 500 surveillance cameras on the gaming floor and 600 more outside the casino, K-9 teams that patrol the perimeter and parking garage, key control for the guest rooms, fire prevention, cash handling, and special events.

Trump's Castle had typical garage property crimes before the K-9 patrols began. In the first four months of the program, the garage incident rate plummeted 80 percent. Patrons at both casinos welcome the patrols. They worry less about leaving their cars in the garage and about wearing jewelry and carrying money. Burke credits the patrols for the Trump Taj Mahal's low incident rate, roughly one for every 90,000 cars parked.

you have me completely confused. What I was trying to describe and as I understood the earlier article is this was a membership card of sometime for the casino he used to access the casino's parking lot or garage. Something similiar to a debit card with a magnetic strip which would allow access into the parking area once the casino member swiped it, so it was issued by the casino. It was the casino which verified his card was used to enter their parking area. I'm confused at to how that relates to any state toll way or toll roads. Can you explain?

I can easily see a gated entrance where a member would swipe the card, gate opens to enter the parking area. Upon exit those metal strips that destroy tires might be at the exits to keep people from entering the wrong way... hence they could exit without needed the card.

TIA

I have not been to a casino in Atlantic City in a while. Most required you take a ticket and upon presentation to the casino itself they will stamp it and you get free parking. This means the exit is staffed with at least one person who will collect money from those who do not have a validated parking ticket.

So if upon entry, they have a system where you can swipe a card and avoid taking a ticket, the driver would have to go to an exit that allowed the driver to swipe himself out or go to a booth where there is a person there.

On toll roads, EZ Pass allows the driver to avoid the manned toll booths but the machine will pick up both sides of the transaction. I am not aware of any system (although they could exist) where a person can bypass both an entry and exit booth simply by having a card.

I hope this clarifies.

Ok, I got it. BBM. I think this is where the confusion comes in. In the first posted article:

Taj Mahal employees told the family that Caballero's rewards card had been used around 10:30 p.m. to enter the garage, Cruz said. The card did not need to be swiped to leave the garage. "We think somebody must have grabbed him in the parking lot," she said.

So we know it has been confirmed there was nothing required to exit the garage.

What doesn't make sense, if one reads Ruby Reds post #58 above about the tight security at the Taj Mahal is how did Mr. Caballero become the "1 in 90,000"?

The only thing that makes sense - at this moment - is the perp did not see Mr. Caballero enter the garage and must have thought he was leaving early with his winnings and chose him as a victim? If so it doesn't sound like the perp was hanging around long 'scoping' out his choices.
Pure speculation of course and not sure how likely of a theory that is......

I'm perplexed at where he could be and still praying he is found alive soon.

All this security... k-9 teams..... I wish the article was more specific about parking lot security for patrons after exiting the parking garage.

It's been a few years since we've been there, as well. However, if I remember correctly you do get a choice in parking..you can go to the parking garage or there are areas in front of some of the casino in which you dont pay for parking and it's a general lot. I will google map the address and get the photo of the actual grounds in a bit.

So, beyond being incredibly cruel in killing an innocent victim for a few hundred dollars, this idiot carjacker and murderer burned himself in the process of setting the car ablaze. Good. I hope the healing process is long and painful.

These two look like they were made for each other....

(I hope his burns become painfully infected, too)

So much for all the security they have there.

I can only imagine that there will be a major shake-up with their security staff (or there certainly should be) after something like this happening....how in the hell can a person be buried on casino grounds??? With security (K9 no less) everywhere??

I am so angry right now.
I'm sure Mr. C died pleading for his life, and for his family. I just hope whatever happened to him involved the least amount of suffering possible.

I thought the article said the hotel was in Egg Harbor Twp.
