GUILTY NJ - Martin Caballero, 47, Atlantic City, 21 May 2010

  • #121
Police have charged a man and woman -- who both have criminal records -- with his carjacking and kidnapping.

Information earlier released by the Atlantic City prosecutor indicated
the pair -- one driving Caballero's car and the other following in
a silver Toyota -- had exited the expressway in Hamilton Township
at 11:36 p.m. May 21 and didn't get back onto the expressway until more
than an hour, the Press said.

Positive identification has yet to be made, the Press said.

On Friday, Housel said the pair was inside the Toyota when they followed Caballero into the Taj's parking garage shortly after 10:30 p.m. May 21. Surveillance video taken inside the garage shows Kisby approach Caballero followed by Arno.
It is not clear exactly what happened -- Housel has called it a "physical approach" -- but after that the three left in the two cars, with the silver Toyota following Caballero's white Lincoln.
Less than an hour later, the cars were on the expressway, then got off at Exit 12, before heading back onto the expressway at about 12:50 a.m. May 22. They got off at Exit 5 in Pleasantville, where a Bic lighter and accelerant were purchased at the Wawa.
Kisby was also reportedly seen purchasing $5 worth of gas in a borrowed container at the Exxon.
Caballero's ATM card was used at the Egg Harbor Township Bank of America at 1:07 a.m. Surveillance tape shows a man identified as Arno.
At 2:30 a.m., the victim's car was found engulfed in flames in Camden County.

Thanks for posting that, Darlin Gal....I'm so thankful Martin has been found...but so sad for his family. (Those two sleeze-bags deserve to fry.)

I also want to go on record as taking back any public bashing I did of the casino's surveillance system. It sure seems to be top-notch according to the article Darlin Gal posted above.

Has Martin been found, I thought that was just a rumor. I have very high respect for the Atlanta LE, they are right on the ball. I am following 12 cases now, two have been found dead, the other 10 are still missing. The LE in these other cases don't seem to be doing much. Atlanta got right on this.

We are still waiting for official confirmation this is in fact Martins body. How sad. All over 300 bucks. :( :(

Terribly tragic. An unnecessary killing of a good family man taking his wife and daughters out to celebrate her 21st birthday.

Totally senseless. I do not think I will ever understand how evil some people are.

This is so sad. All he wanted to do was take his family to Atlantic City for a fun time. In my other post I called it Atlanta, I meant Atlantic City. I hope New Jersey has the death penalty. My prayers for Martin's family in this terrible time. :rose:

Oh my gosh. Why? $300.00. It is just too hard to imagine.
Why couldn't they have just robbed him?
Not that that is okay. Just why kill him?

Too da*n sad!!!!

I just read through the thread and this has to be one of the most tragic cases. The poor man was just going to park his car to join his family for his daughter's birthday and these two perps carjack him, kill him, apparently for $300 from his bank account and torch the car. They probably thought he had a lot more money on him is the only thing I can think of. I hope they spend the rest of their miserable lives in prison. How very sad.

:rose: for Martin
:rose: for Martin's family

I didn't see this posted. If Arno is convicted of murdering Mr. Caballero, he will not be the first person Arno killed. :furious:

Parolee who took a life as a teen is arrested in A.C. carjacking; the driver remains missing.

By JASON NARK
Philadelphia Daily News

THE JUSTICE system gave Craig Arno a break almost 30 years ago after he killed a woman while drag-racing in Philadelphia.
The victim's husband, Steve McNaughton, still remembers Arno as a teenager, cursing at him in court even when a judge sentenced him to just probation for killing his wife in 1981.
"He was arrogant. He had absolutely no remorse, but I figured, if anything, this kid had a chance to start over the right way," McNaughton said. "I thought he would fly straight."
That didn't happen.

<snip>

Arno was in trouble with the law even before Oct. 12, 1981, when he slammed into Karen McNaughton's car while tearing down City Avenue. Out on bail, he was arrested again after eluding police on a motorcycle.

<snip>

(More of Arno's criminal history at article)

McNaughton, now 55, said he never imagined that the same man who shattered his life decades ago would still be ruining lives today. "I'm distraught that someone else had to go through this because we're not putting the bad guys away and keeping them there," he said. "I grieve for those people now."

How many persons does someone have to kill before being locked up for good? :furious:

How many times does a person have to be arrested AFTER killing someone for them to be locked up for good? :furious:

This wouldn't have to happen if the courts would stop handing out unlimited breaks to parolee's! :furious:

Also from above link:

Arno was paroled from prison in New Jersey two months ago today, after serving a little more than two years on burglary charges. He also worked at a supermarket - for two days - before restarting his life of crime, a law-enforcement source said.
:furious: :furious: :furious:

Too bad Arno got too many chances and too little time....
I'm going to bet he got the least amount of time possible for his crimes rather than the max. :furious: :furious: :furious:

Now we know why he murdered over 300 bucks. Didn't want to go back to the joint. Thought he could outsmart LE this time....... Now he will be going back to prison, someone lost their life, and for a second time a family has to put the pieces of their lives back together after Arno took another persons life.

I hope this forces NJ to relook at how they plea down crimes and how they sentence criminals.

I wonder if he resorted to murder because he had gotten so little punishment in the past and wasn't worried about the consequences.

That makes sense in combination with not wanting to go back. People murder to avoid being caught. Clearly he knew Mr. Caballero could identify him..... but Arno is so darn stupid it didn't occur to him to hide his face from the ATM machine.

Hopefully the judge who hears the murder case won't allow Arno to plea down AGAIN. :banghead:

I think it will be important to find out how a car could 'tail' another and get into the parking garage so easily.
That is a flaw in the security system.

I might be mistaken but didn't Martin have to use a card to enter the garage? Did the perpatrator use a card, too?

  • #140
I was my understanding from the news articles the perp did not have a card and closely followed Mr. Caballero's car to gain access to the garage. Media did not state they did not have a card, just that they 'tailed' or followed closely into the garage so it sounded like two cars got in by use of a single card- Martin's card.

Since they had the footage of the silver toyota following him into and then exiting the garage, I think if their was a card used by the driver of the silver toyota they could have id'd the perps quicker.
