GUILTY NJ - Martin Caballero, 47, Atlantic City, 21 May 2010

I guess all of the security is to look at crimes that have already been committed...instead of watching in real time and trying to stop crimes in action...if someone had been watching the tapes live, this crime might have been halted at the point of abduction and could have been an attempted abduction...but of course that would be too costly, having enough staff to be actually watch what is going on live in the parking garages...casinos seem to only have enough live bodies to watch over every single hand of blackjack dealt at the tables, in case someone is counting cards...then they are on them instantly...

I think it will be important to find out how a car could 'tail' another and get into the parking garage so easily.
That is a flaw in the security system.

A big flaw in security.

I wonder if he resorted to murder because he had gotten so little punishment in the past and wasn't worried about the consequences.
This is just my opinion but if he's anything like Mr. McNaughton described in court almost 20 yrs. ago, I think it doesn't take much to set him off, and I hate to say it but with the expensive car the perps probably thought he had a lot of money to go gambling; found out he didn't; became enraged, killed him and went to the ATM. I hate to think what Martin must have gone through. :( All MOO.

LOL, I actually owe you an apology. I had no idea there were two threads and thought you were posting it under the thread I was on. Oops! :blushing:

Oh that'sO.K. Miss Justice. I was just kidding you. No problem. Thank you for your care and concern for Mr. Caballero.

POLICE ARE AWAITING A POSITIVE IDENTIFICATION OF A BODY
Last Updated - 5/31/10 06:59 pm
ATLANTIC COUNTY---Police are awaiting a positive identification of a body they believe to be a North Jersey man who vanished in Atlantic City 10 days ago.

The gruesome discovery was made on farmland on Leipzig road Sunday morning.
Farmer, Ted liepe told N-B-C 40 he was routinely checking his blueberry crops.
But when Liepe jumped into his truck to leave the field, he noticed a pair of feet sticking out of the bushes.

Leipe said, "The body was so decomposed that you couldn't even tell if the person was white black or what color he was what nationality he was even."
Both are in jail and charged with first degree kidnapping and carjacking.
However, charges could be upgraded if the body is found to be Martin Caballero.

Oh, dear! It's being reported like it could be... This is horrid.

  • #147
Would he be that decomposed after so short a time? I suppose it is possible as I know there was some oht weather in the Northeast...but it almost sounds like this body has been there a while?

Ten days in the heat, plus watering the crops ~ it could very well be. MOO

A.C. tourist’s alleged kidnappers plead not guilty

By George Anastasia

Inquirer Staff Writer
Murder suspects Craig Arno, 44, and Jessica Kisby, 24, pleaded not guilty to kidnapping and carjacking charges Wednesday during a brief hearing in Atlantic County Superior Court.

The couple, who remain targets of a murder investigation in the death of North Jersey grocer Martin Caballero, said little as they appeared in orange jumpsuits and handcuffs before Judge Michael Donio.

Donio set bail at $500,000 for Arno, $400,000 for Kisby.

"In the near future, we anticipate new charges," Atlantic County Prosecutor Theodore Housel told Donio.

Those charges are expected to be for murder.

A body, believed to be Caballero's, was discovered on a farm road in Atlantic County on Sunday, 10 days after the alleged carjacking.

Caballero, of Hudson County, disappeared on May 21, after dropping his wife and daughter at the Trump Taj Mahal Casino Resort in Atlantic City, where they planned to celebrate their daughter's 22d birthday.

Authorities allege that Arno and Kisby confronted Caballero in a parking garage and kidnapped him.

Caballero's car was later found on fire in Gloucester Township, Camden County, about 50 miles from Atlantic City.

Arno and Kisby were arrested late last week at a motel outside Atlantic City.

:furious:

They can plead not guilty all they want because they have the right to do so. However there is pretty clear video survellience which will leave no doubt these two committed the crime.

Still now word on official id of the body yet? Wonder what is taking so long.

It looks like they are awaiting military records to positively id Mr. Caballero. I hope that doesn't take too long. My heart breaks for this family, for his wife and kids. His daughter who didn't deserve for this to happen on her birthday. I hope they know they are in our thoughts and prayers and Mr. Caballero will not be forgotten.

Link with the info regarding awaiting military records.

MAYS LANDING - It will take military records to identify the body of Hudson County man who was found dead on a remote section of a farm in Gloucester Township over the weekend.
<snip>

A body Housel and authorities believe to be Caballero's was found early Sunday morning by a farmer. It has not been positively identified, but Housel emphasized he is highly confident because of evidence found at the scene that it was that of Caballero.

He declined to comment on how the victim was killed.

I don't know when I've seen this reason for the delay of ID. I'm guessing it means we need to prepare ourselves for this being an especially ugly scenario, but maybe that's the only dental records they know of?

That is a flaw in the security system.

This isn't as much a security flaw as a safety mechanism. You will find that this can be accomplished at virtually ALL gated entrances. Since vehicles are all different lengths it is necesary for the gate to open long enough - if it didn't it would bang down on cars and trucks constantly - causing damage.

This after military records confirmed that the body found on Sunday morning on a farm in Hamilton Township was that of Martin Caballero, 47, and autopsy results show Caballero was stabbed to death.

Rest in Peace Martin.

True in many ( almost all ) cases. Though I keep thinking in this case though they had security, so the combination of both should be reviewed.

OT- Ages ago we lived in a condo with underground parking. Could have been my lack of driving experience, but there was no way two cars could make it into the garage at once. However, in that case we were driving down a ramp and the garage had a door which opened and closed for each car. I assume there was some kind of mechanism which was able to read the tires or the end of the vehicle and know when to close ( and this was the 80's). But in this case the garage ceiling was low and would not accomodate larger commercial type vehicles.

There has to be some way to ensure this doesn't happen again. Even if it means a person is at the gated entrances. Especially in such a busy place.

I would guess there are no recent dental x rays available to the police.
But, I would think that dna could give results just as quickly.
As we all know, they could get dna from Martin's parents, siblings, children.
There must be a good reason for only using military records.

Martins body has been officially identified. :(

A body found on a Hamilton Township farm last weekend has been positively identified as Caballero, Atlantic County Prosecutor Ted Housel said Thursday. An autopsy shows multiple stab wounds to the chest.
The announcement came moments after Craig Arno and Jessica Kisby were given notice at the Atlantic County Jail that they are now charged with murder, felony murder and weapons offenses. Their bail has been increased to $2 million full cash each.

Rip Mr. Caballero ( I use that because I love the last name.)
I'm so sorry this happened on a day you should have been out celebrating your daughters birthday with your family. You look like such a nice man. I wish I would have had the opportunity to know you and your family.
Your family and friends are in my prayers.
