NJ - Mystery drones seen nightly

*shrug* agree to disagree. Naval Weapons Station Earle has munitions. It’s a straight shot from there to the UK and Germany, where drones have also been spotted over our bases. IMO MOO

Maybe. I'm not convinced they're carrying munitions, though. I think the "old school" method of hauling them in trucks (unmarked or disguised), then loading onto ship by night would be more discreet, but that's just me.

Maybe they are the distraction. If everybody is so concerned with what's going on overhead, maybe they forget to watch what's happening on the ground!

Villagers 'can't believe what they saw' after yet another sighting of a suspected drone was spotted flying close to an American air base in Britain.

MailOnline has exclusively uncovered fresh footage filmed by a resident that shows the suspected drone flying over Hockwold 🤬🤬🤬 Wilton, just six miles from RAF Lakenheath, Suffolk.

The village sits between two Air Force bases, RAF Feltwell and RAF Lakenheath.

The US Air Force admitted last month that drones had flown close to three of its UK bases – including Lakenheath, Feltwell as well as RAF Mildenhall in Suffolk.

Farmworker Ricky Fletcher, 43, was leaving work on November 29 when initially he only saw one of them flying above.

He told us: 'I first saw them on the farm I work at, I was leaving work at 4pm on Friday evening and saw one flying way from Feltwell low to the ground, I almost thought it was a helicopter, it was so big.

Wolfhound Vehicle with Laser Directed Energy Weapon

''A high-energy laser weapon has been fired by the British Army from an armoured vehicle for the first time and successfully destroyed flying drones.
It works by directing an intense beam of infra-red light in the form of energy towards its target using advanced sensors and tracking systems which maintain lock-on and accuracy in real time.
Unlike conventional munitions, laser weapons are virtually limitless in terms of ammunition supply, which means they could represent a cost-effective alternative to some current in-service weapons.
The laser was integrated onto a Wolfhound – a protected troop-carrying vehicle - where soldiers from 16 Royal Artillery were able to track and down hovering targets at Radnor Range in mid-Wales. ''

''The high-energy device, mounted on the roof of a Wolfhound armoured vehicle, was successfully tested at the Radnor Range in mid-Wales.

Soldiers from 16 Royal Artillery - an air defence regiment based near Portsmouth, Hampshire - were able to track and destroy hovering targets.

Retired police lieutenant and intelligence analyst Tim McMillan told DailyMail.com the descriptions of the UFOs in Jersey 'sound exactly like Russian Orlan-10 drones' — secretive craft that fly in packs of three to five.''

Apologies if this was already addressed, but what countries have the capabilities and finances to produce and operate these drones?

As many say above this whole episode is the epitome of absolute stupidity. The answer can be had in minutes. Shoot a a few of these things down. There are literally millions of people who went to bed be last night with needless anxiety.. The US has the technology to put a missile on spot size of a quarter. The reaction to this issue warrants full disclosure even it has a secret clearance of some sort, So just issue a damn press release this morning and have a press conference today. There has been tens of thousands of call to the police and other authorities. And who ever is responsible for this fiascos hour get their *advertiser censored* fired

I can't help mention that Orson Wells classic The War of the Worlds kicked off in New Jersey.
I hope people don’t just start shooting down what they think are drones. All the videos I’ve seen are of manned aircraft taken by people who don’t know what they’re looking at.

At night, not easy to tell how fast an aircraft is going, in which direction it’s traveling, and at what altitude. Pilots are taught that if an aircraft does not appear to move in the windscreen, you’re on a collision course.

I don’t live anywhere near the drone sightings but I am very concerned about it and even more concerned that government authorities don’t seem to be taking it seriously.
Reminds me of the Chinese balloon fiasco.
My thoughts:
—These things have been in the news repeatedly over the last few weeks. If they were controlled by hobbyists one of them would have called in and said so and apologized and stopped by now. The fact that that hasn’t happened is red flag number one.
—The drones are launched by someone, controlled by someone, and when they land they return to that someone. Track them and follow them home! I have no doubt the US has the capability to do this, so do it!
—Shoot them down! They are a threat to our country! They are a threat because we don’t know where they’re coming from, we don’t know who’s controlling them, we don’t know their intent. Whether or not they are in free airspace doesn’t matter…they are a threat.
—Either our government knows what’s going on and doesn’t want to say or they don’t care. If they know, why would they not say? Too embarrassed to admit foreign countries are playing games with us?
Shoot them down! This is ridiculous.
I agree 100% with this entire statement. My first thought when the drone news broke out was the balloon incident which was swept under the rug.
This is beyond ridiculous - lack of government intervention here speaks volumes, just my thoughts.

@BrianEntin

The runways at Stewart Airfield in New York were shut down for an hour last night because of drone activity in the airspace.

NY Gov. Kathy Hochul is asking Congress to pass a law that allows local and state law enforcement authorities to take action.

Naval Weapons Station Earle in NJ confirms “several instances of unidentified drones entering the airspace” above the naval station.

But they say “no direct threats to the installation have been identified.”

How do they know they are not a threat if they are unidentified?

“How do they know they are not a threat if they are unidentified?”

EXACTLY!!

They could have been small and harmless recreational drones miles from the airport.

Take a look at the sectional chart for Stewart (SWF). Anywhere inside the dashed blue circle is Class D (controlled) airspace up to 3,000 feet where aircraft operations (including UAS) are not permitted without clearance from the controlling authority (in this case, SWF tower). Even the smallest collision threat in the airspace can cause a shutdown out of an abundance of caution.

So, some buffoon messing around with their DJI wonder drone over Newburgh could cause an airspace closure.

I think all this talk about drones is causing pranksters to operate their recreational UAS around to cause a kerfuffle.

To an extent, yes. Which isn't helping, but hey-- they're making the news! (Eyeroll)

The public is being told some of these are "manned", so according to the Jouav article, the only ones capable of carrying that weight would be the Ehang 184 and the Griff Aviation 300.

Weight, range, and flight time info is interesting.

At a cost of +/- $48,000, I doubt this is hundreds of average citizens in a friendly, spontaneous meetup after all acquiring new drones before Christmas.

ETA: FWIW, when I posted the above I did not know that Jouav is based in China.
