NJ NJ - Quinton Twp, Jericho Rd, WhtMale 16-22, UP1526, matches -Tolz Realty in Cape May, Jun'79

I agree. And it was 1979, so matches were everywhere people might smoke, and were something to logo.

I do find the doodling on the cigarettes interesting. Not only does it seem like a younger teenage thing to do, but somewhat rebellious "Hi Everyone, I smoke WEED and POT and JOINTS." We get it. I don't think an older teen or kid into the 20s would draw on the box. And a heavy smoker wouldn't have the box long enough to think about doing it in the first place unless he were in detention, etc.
Agreed, but if he were actually dealing, the underhanded bit of publicity might be advantageous.

Even with a younger smoker, I don't think an individual pack would be around for long.

This case is with Ramapo College now, hope we get some answers:

Could be a possibility. I was looking at this photo though, and it’s hard to tell, but his teeth look crooked. Or something is going on with them I think. I don’t see that with the UID. But again, it’s hard to tell. The other features match up pretty well.

Agreed he doesn't align perfectly with the Doe's image/likeness, but Francisco Pimentel was on his way to Fort Dix when he disappeared. Fort Dix is less than an hour and a half from Quinton Township.

Francisco enlisted in the Massachusetts Army National Guard. His orders directed him to travel to Fort Dix, New Jersey on August 8, 1976. He went to the AMTRAK train station in Providence, RI accompanied by friends and family. He boarded the train with other recruits and his recruiter but never arrived in Fort Dix, New Jersey. He has not been seen or heard from since.

Also, I believe his middle name is Portugese, which might (?) account for the little cross on one jacket pocket, but why the "R"? Would he maybe have gone by Rico?

This is kind of interesting, too, Rodney Lynn Grissom, I don't think he looks too much like the image/replication for Salem County John Doe at all, but he's a runaway from Albany OR, & looking at his pocket, I think I may see a letter there:

Here's a zoom, it's even more blurred than the original:

Very blurry, and maybe I've been looking too long, but that may be an "R" similar to the Doe's. There's definitely something there, and it looks like a single letter.

Rodney last seen in Albany, Oregon on May 24, 1977. Authorities believe he left with Karen Lee, who disappeared two days after he did. The pair reportedly planned to hitchhike to California. They called a friend from a pay phone in Lebanon, Oregon after leaving home, then Karen said, "Our ride is here. I have to go." Karen and Rodney were never heard from again.

Later that year, some of the pair's belongings were found off a logging road in Linn County, Oregon. The items included Karen's jeans, some pages from her journal, and a blouse she'd sewn, and Rodney's watch and some of his other things. Karen's jeans appeared to have been cut.

Listed for accessories for Rodney: Framed backpack with the name "R. Grissom" written on it.

If that is Rodney, I am guessing this may well be Karen, Lee, found off a turnpike in wooded area near Perth Amboy. She also has horn jewelry perhaps like the John Doe's, they mentioned a horn:
