Woman killed in Toms River Township fire, 4 others escape

SABBM:

The fire started shortly before 11 p.m. Friday on the unit block of 15th Street.

The man and the children were able to evacuate, officials said, however the woman remained inside.

"This is an ongoing investigation by the Ocean County Prosecutor's Office Arson Unit, Toms River Township Police Department Detective Bureau and Ocean County Sherriff's Office Crime Scene Investigation Unit. We are not releasing the name of deceased until proper notifications are made. This is a sad day for everyone involved," Billhimer said in a statement.

I guess the obvious and immediate question is how is it that her husband and 3 young children were able to get out of the home safely, but she was not?

Wouldn't at least the youngest of the kids have been in bed already?
Judging by her FB, one of them is only a couple of years old.

Glad this is being investigated.

Wonder where and how the fire started, and where each of the family members were at the time.

School Media Specialist ID'd As Victim Of Toms River Fire

Sara Trahey, 33, could not be rescued from the fast-moving fire at her home in Toms River.

Her husband, Jeff, and their three young children managed to escape as firefighters arrived late Friday night.

The home in Silverton was fully engulfed when responders arrived, according to Ocean County Prosecutor Bradley D. Billhimer.

The intensity and scope of the blaze kept responders from getting to the victim, Billhimer said.

An investigation was continuing.

Maybe dad was busy getting the kids out -- a priority for him or anyone, JMO -- and something happened to her -- perhaps she already had some debilitating medical condition which affected her lungs or heart; she fell; she might have been the closest one to the fire; dad just either couldn't get to her or had trouble finding her (she was in the bathroom, perhaps), or she was dead when found her -- if he found her.
With the FD and PD in on it, we should know something before too long. Fire accident reconstruction personnel are pretty smart -- just hoping there is enuff evidence left to make a determination.
Such a sad story. No matter what happened, she is gone, leaving young children and a shattered husband and father.
Hoping we'll hear something soon.
