Truthfully, after reading this the timing for Sean meeting his Dad is being handled correctly. He needed time to absorb the information, gather his things, and say his goodbyes. I can't imagine how this little boy is dealing with all this no matter who was right, who was wrong, who won, or who lost.

I agree, the terms are reasonable and most importanly shows compassion for Sean.

"Sean is my family, Sean is my son. It is our right to be together, not just a rule of law, not just a treaty, not he's Brazilian, not he's American, not he's from anywhere. He's my son and I should be able to raise my son and he should know his dad," Goldman said this week.

I understand the need for Sean to have contact with his grandparents and family but there is no way...if I were his dad....would he be going back there to visit. The grandparents have money and it would be easy for them to come to the US to visit under the eye of the father. I would be afraid to leave Sean alone with the grandparents for fear they would take him and I would never see him again. It probably wouldn't be a big deal for them to relocate. Think of your son dad but be careful. Supervised visitation is a good idea.

It is only 20 minutes away from the deadline... I hope all goes well and the next thing that we hear is that David and Sean are in the air and home bound.

This was terrible what the step-father and grandparents did to Sean. It was like leading a "lamb to slaughter". Thank goodness Sean is finally on his way home and hopefully never returns to Brazil.

It will be interesting to see if the grandparents stay in touch with Sean throught cards, letters and phone calls.

I'm not so sure if I would let these grandparents in Sean's life, but David will be the one to make that decision.

it goes in keeping with their woah are we we're martyrs. they seem to have the attitude this is about what they want not what's best for sean. he should have gone back to his dad long ago...or better yet not even taken like he was.

i wish them all the blessings God has for them as they heal and reunite.

I really firmly believe from experience...that before David makes that decision...the child should undergo counseling and the counselor should be part of the decision. There are many issues at hand...parental alienation one of them. IF they are part of his life...there should never be unsupervised visitation...what they did was criminal.

On FOX news just now they advised that father and son are on their way back to the U.S. They're on a private jet.

I'm glad Sean has at long last been reunited with his father. Praying they are having an enjoyable flight home and everything's working out allright between them. May God bless them both and their father/son relationship!

Yes, I think a child Sean's age should be able to say in Court to the people who are deciding his fate, "This is what I want." I don't think that means the Court should necessarily DO what Sean wants....his desires should obviously be interpreted through his situation as well as the legal rights of his father. But, absolutely, he should have a voice, IMHO.

I hope no one will read this post to think I am blaming Sean's father for any of this. He is in a terrible situation and I feel for him. But for me - nothing about this case is clearcut.

WOW, you guys have been busy posting. I didn't realize how many days I had been away from WS. Not that this matters anymore, because they are already on their way HOME... :woohoo:, but there is a lot the Brazilian family could have done. It has been stated that they had threatened to have David killed in the past .... don't think I would be showing up for Christmas dinner either.

As for Sean (he's 9, btw) being able to tell his wishes...I can respect this if it had not been proven that he was a victim of Parental Alienation Syndrome (PAS) or better known as BRAINWASHING! This was stated in all of the court rulings at the federal level.

They could have appealed to the STJ rather than try to go back to their friend (Aurelio Mello) to get another stay. By skipping the STJ initially (they did later file a motion with the STJ) and going straight to the STF, they shot themselves in the foot. They did try to appeal to the STJ and it was denied once the chairman received the report from the STF President (Mendes).

David Goldman has reportedly spent more than $400K in this battle to regain his son. He lives in a very nice home (that the Brazilians refer to as a shack) in Tinton Falls, NJ.

But all that matters now is...THEY ARE ON THEIR WAY HOME!!!!

One more thing: it was stated this morning that Sean never said he only wanted to live in Brazil. I know he did on tape, but that was a forced interview (also illegal per the court order). He and his Dad were bonding nicely - laughing and talking about basketball.

Oh, and let us not forget, there are 65 more US children IN BRAZIL that are being illegally retained; more than 300 in Mexico; 2800 TOTAL...well, now 2799. Sean Goldman is the first child ever returned to the US from Brazil under the Hague Convention. The US has returned 7 children from the US to Brazil since Sean Goldman was abducted in June 2004...3 of the 7 were from New Jersey.


Francois Larivee (Canadian) has been waiting for 2 YEARS to have an appeal heard (filed by his childs mother) at the STJ level. The TRF-2 awarded him custody of his son (Lucas) and she went into hiding with the child and managed a stay while "in hiding". He's still waiting . . . :banghead:

Does anyone know if there is a fund that has been set up for David? If so, I would like to donate a few bucks to him to help defray the cost.
