Just a guess, but is the packing house where the brew pub is now?

(Edit: Never mind, I was way off on that one.)

Weird that I can't find any articles about him except for one in the Star-Ledger in 2004 (which doesn't even get the town right).

It is now Palmer Park. I guess the article confused where he lived with where he disappeared from.

Yeah I see that now. I Googled it and the brew pub came up. Wasn't even the right road. (It was the other road in Long Valley.) He hadn't lived near Madison in a while either.

Also in one article it states he lived in Mansfield Village, in another Towpath (there was a Krauszers) across the street Towpath but these apartments are on completely different sides of Hackettstown. Wondering if the girlfriend lived in one and SW in the other.

So strange. I’m also familiar with the area and as you probably know, it’s not exactly a high crime area. It’s not close to major highways or anything. Growing up, people referred to it as “Happy Valley” or, less endearingly, said it was like living in a bubble. That’s not to say crime can’t happen anywhere, but something like this is certainly odd. I feel so bad for his family-especially his parents.
Very familiar with the area as well, the strange thing is when I drive that way this is not the case that I think of, my mind will always go to the Rachel Domas homicide that shattered the area in 1985

I noticed that as well. Most articles say Towpath so I was figuring that was the correct one. Although, your suggestion about the girlfriend and Mansfield Apts. is a good one and may explain the discrepancy.

That one I've never heard of (I would've been 0-1 years old and a couple years away from moving to NW Jersey... Hunterdon until last year, now Warren). There aren't many homicides up here so the ones that do happen hit hard. In the ~35 years in my hometown, you could probably count all homicides on one hand. The only one I can think of was 11-year-old Jacob Tracy in 1995, which was extremely shocking.

Morris County, where I grew up was rocked by several brutal homicides in the 80's, thankfully almost all were solved. A few remain open and my hope is that as technology develops the remaining ones will be resolved.

Wow, I had never heard of this case until today, and I live in Warren County. It really is a mystery.
