Go read his dad's FB page today.

N.J. teen missing for a week believed to be somewhere on East Coast, dad says

The father of a New Jersey teen missing for more than a week said Wednesday that his son is safe somewhere on the East Coast, but will not return home.

Nicolai Kolding shared that update about his 15-year-old son Thomas Kolding in a Facebook post he made public, but declined to say how he learned that or reveal a more specific location.

ETA - I think this quote from the link is so odd "If anyone sees him (especially those unfamiliar to him), think of him and talk to him like a 25 year-old not a 15 year-old."

His parents may be immigrants from Denmark, so this statement might reflect cultural differences. As an American, I would have stated, "If anyone sees him, please call the police immediately and you have my permission to grab him by the arm so he can't run away."

The father said Wednesday that his son was seen on surveillance footage at the Trenton train station early Saturday afternoon. "He looks in control, he looks safe," Nicolai Kolding said.

Family and friends will hold a vigil for the teen at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday on the turf field at Mountain Lakes High School.

Missing 15-year-old Thomas Kolding was spotted in Philadelphia on Saturday, his father said Wednesday morning.

"We believe he is safe but we still have a long way to go," father Nicolai Kolding said.

So was it Trenton or Philadelphia, or both? My guess is that he would have traveled via NJ Transit from Penn Station NYC to Trenton, then a SEPTA to Philadelphia or Amtrak from NYC Penn to Philly.

Only 35% of the Philadelphia population is white. A wandering, single, white boy wearing a large backpack who appears to be 10 or 11 years old should stick out like a sore thumb.

Only 14% of Trenton, NJ is white. He can't easily hide there.

Am I missing something? He was last spotted on Saturday, it is now Wednesday and they are declaring he is currently "safe"? They don't think anything could have happened to him in the 96 hours that have transpired between then and now?

I thought the same. He is not safe if they can't talk to him or confirm that he is ok.

I have a feeling the family and LE know more than they are letting on.

Authorities seek public assistance to locate missing 15-year-old Mountain Lakes teen

Kolding was seen on a platform Saturday at the Walter Rand Transportation Center in Camden. The teen was wearing an orange and black striped hooded sweatshirt, a camouflage jacket and dark pants. He was carrying a blue backpack.

His parents previously told police their son, who is 5-foot-3 and weighs between 100 and 115 pounds, had a strong interest in traveling to California, possibly the Bay Area.

Im sorry late to the party, does Amtrak and the likes not have a bolo system? Aren't all these sightings at train stations. The case that just closed with Brooklyn Hays was solved by surveillance at train stations.

There's a strong sense of admiration for his "resourcefulness" and "intelligence" in all of the parents' facebook posts. I'm not sure what's so admirable about running away or expending vast law-enforcement resources.

I was just thinking the same thing re-reading his fathers newest post. He doesn't say anything about bringing him home or missing him, just that they "love and admire" him. It is a little bit strange IMO.

Missing boy, 15, wrote a note to his parents saying he didn't want to be found | Daily Mail Online

He rode his bike to the Denville train station and boarded a train to Newark - Broad Street Station. He is then though to have taken another train to New York Penn Station

Did he change his clothes? I wonder if mom and dad recognize the striped sweatshirt as something he already owned or if he could have purchased that somewhere? Where is he sleeping? What is he eating? Why is there not seemingly more concern for his safety? They should not have used the word "safe" IMO-- saying he appears safe and the subsequent news headlines saying he appears to be safe will lead to the public assuming he has been found. People will stop looking. JMO.

any indication why he wanted so badly to get away from his family and never be found? What could be that bad?... he is 15 and "very mature" by all accounts. Ahem...
