zero details. Not even reporting where he was found.

Ummm....

I have also read on the Morris County Prosecutors' facebook page that he has been found safe.

Wow, so relieved for this family.

So glad to hear. I don’t care where, why, when. He’s safe, and that’s all that matters.

So incredibly happy for his family.

I’m thinking he ran out of money and/or realized being a runaway in cold weather who can’t rent a car or a hotel room or get a job wasn’t as much fun as he imagined. He’ll have one heck of a college essay a few years from now...

Yay! Found safe! What we all wanted and so rarely see. Hope that this family can find a way to love and live together. This is a happy ending ... for now .

Now...ground him.

I don’t think it’s so easy. He’s clearly struggling... mentally or emotionally or physically. Glad he has been found. I always wish we got updates after. I’m curious to the circumstances and motivations behind the decision to leave. Each story has meaning individually.

The dad is regurgitating statements from a therapist’s toolbox. Dad can’t call out his son on his outrageous behavior at this time, so Dad must say something else to dialogue with his son. This is why we think his words sound so odd. All that is left for Dad to say since he can’t call out his son’s horrid behavior, is to try to show unconditional love and honor him (oddly saying he respects and trusts Thomas).

Parents who had never experienced such behavior from a child would approach this in a very different, brutally honest manner. “Your mom, brothers, grandparents, and friends are suffering greatly. This is killing Grandma. Grandpa is having chest pains every night. Your mom has scabs under her eyes from crying continuously. Your brothers sit on our porch and cry every afternoon. We are extremely worried about you. Come home NOW, Thomas!”
I mean, yeah, maybe. I can just tell you from experience that an accredited therapist, psychologist and even a psychotherapist wouldn’t take that approach. Appealing to the emotional aspect of things, maybe. However, a teen on the run that’s said he isn’t interested in being found is a whole other monster. That implies he’s 100% comfortable in his surroundings and confident he can make it on his own. My point was actually that the family is well-set, they have employed professionals to preserve their public appearance. You’d think they would have also sought the help of a family trauma specialist. If you’re paying to manage people’s perception of the problem, you’d think you’d also pay to manage the actual problem.
