As of Thursday, November 14, LCSO said there does not appear to be a link between the remains and that of Angela McManes, who went missing from Jal in 2019. The only association between McManes and this case was the proximity of her home and the location of where the skull fragments were located.

According to a press release posted to the Lea County Sheriff’s Office Facebook page, a report on November 5 alerted the sheriff’s officer of a Jal resident who had an “unsettling encounter” with Cecil Villanueva while offering him a ride.

Human skulls found in Jal home under investigation; suspect held on separate charge

After up to 20 human skulls were found at a home in Jal, New Mexico, investigators are examining the possibility some remains were purchased online.

The bone fragments are under analysis for possible connection to Angela McManes, a woman who went missing in 2019 and lived near the property where the skulls were found.
