GUILTY NM - Five Griego family members murdered in their Albuquerque home, 20 Jan 2013

  • #101
I'm still reeling over the gf being 12. 12!

He sent her a picture of his mother - shot in the head (and from the pc - it seems he shot her more than once. They said only 2 victims were shot once - one of the girls and the 9 yr old boy - so that leaves mom shot multiple times) I can't imagine - yet this 12 yr old girl gets this picture- shortly after the shooting and then "hangs out" with this kid ALL DAY LONG - up until 8PM when they go to the church.

They also said in the PC that NG had not been with the gf the entire time - he left and came back (they didn't elaborate) so the gf had the chance to call LE. She didn't. Why? It was also said the plan was to kill her parents as well - so............. I wouldn't be surprised if she doesn't face charges somewhere down the road here.

twelve years old.

JMHO

Unbelievable huh! She should totally face charges.

I can't imagine what the gf's parents are feeling right about now. Unfathomable. Those poor people. And she's free - probably at home. That's scary. Hard to believe that you have to be afraid of your own 12 yr old.

Journal report has the mother shot once in the head.

Preliminary reports indicate that he shot his mother once in the head, then shot his 9-year-old brother multiple times, including in the head, with a .22 caliber rifle, Houston and investigators said.

He then allegedly shot his two sisters, aged 5 and 2, in another room with the .22 caliber rifle, Houston said. One of the girls was awake, he said, the other was sleeping. One was shot multiple times, the other once.

But yeah, I'm also reeling about the 12 year old "girlfriend."

12.

Reeling over a number of issues in this tragic story.

ETA: Additional information from the Journal regarding the number of shots:

Sheriff’s Lt. Sid Covington said [NG] shot his father multiple times with an AR-15 assault-style rifle, including at least once in the head.

And here I was feeling sorry for the gf who had received the pic of mom. That was before info came out about her then proceding to spend the day with NG and her being 12!! 12!

Sigh, what is up with this girl? I agree with WOO, I wouldn't be shocked to see charges against the gf, sounds like they were half arse plotting her parents deaths next.

Thank you muchly for watching and taking notes. :)

:what: The murderer went to church THEN went home to murder his family? !
:what: His girlfriend is 12?!
:what: He was shocked at his arrest?!

:banghead: He marched around his yard with a gun?

I'm pretty much speechless at all this.
Wonder why he thought he wouldn't be arrested? Maybe his considered age? :waitasec:
This kid was full of hate and rage. WHY did he make such a violent choice.....why murder his entire family?
:moo:

All the shooter is saying is that he was "frustrated with his mother" and no further elaboration. I'm wondering if mom had become aware of his "gaming" or the young gf and was trying to discipline or discourage him from seeing her and "gaming".

Planning to shoot the gf's parents - were they aware of him? Being older, did they try to stop her from seeing him?

And again, guns in the house - unlocked and accessible. And again, another AR-15. If parents are willing to keep unlocked guns around - why didn't mom locked her door at night when she slept?

"An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure". Common sense, logic - none of these ever seem apparent or even an after-thought in this shooting after shooting after shooting.

JMHO

Wait.....:notgood: was it reported he was going to shoot his girlfriends parents?

If this kid had anger issues WHY in heavens name did his dad teach him how to use a gun? I agree WOO with your last sentence.

IIRC, school shooters Kip Kinkel and Erric Harris were also taught to shoot as a "hobby" with their dads.

Again, anything else besides guns, parents... :(

I believe he shot his family around 1 am, then his Dad around 5-6 am, then spent most of the day with his gf, then went to the church around 8 pm where he told someone his family was dead - which then prompted the police coming to the house and him being arrested.

3:40: District Attorney Kari Brandenburg said the DA’s Office said [NG] faces a possible 30-year maximum for each charge of child abuse resulting in death.

Brandenburg also said her office is reviewing what, if any, charges might apply to [NG's] girlfriend.

1:20 p.m. — [NG] will continue to be held without bond under an agreement between prosecutors and the Public Defender’s Office.

I really get the sense that in a lot of these horrific crimes (Adam Lanza, Nehemiah Griego, Austin Sigg) that one of the main problems is that these teens do not have a healthy connection to ANYONE. They are isolated for the most part. There is something going on with our youth and imo it is not just violent video games. They are predisposed to anti-social tendencies for some reason. They just don't fit and they don't connect. I don't know what the answer is either.

Violent videos games and little or inappropriate paternal involvement, and untreated mental health disorders are three of the issues r/t "what's going on with our youth".

From the dad's obituary:
.....the Lord impressed upon his heart to move to New Mexico to attend the School of Ministry and Shepherd School here at Calvary of Albuquerque. Greg then joined the Light and Liberty Jail Ministry. Along with overseeing the Jail Ministry here at Calvary, he also oversees the Spanish Ministry, Food Pantry, and Veterans for Christ. Greg is a part of International Fellowship of Chaplains, Inc. As Senior Chaplain, he holds the rank of Captain in the Albuquerque Regional Community Chaplain Corps, and is a volunteer Chaplain for Albuquerque Fire Dept. He serves on the advisory board for Micah Fellowship, a ministry to the justice system. Greg and his wife, Sarah, have ten children.

In addition to all of this he had a full-time job until 2 months ago, Bible studies at his home every week, operated a half-way house in his backyard for ex-cons, and ten offspring to parent. (Whew! I feel tired just reading all of that. I wonder why dad had all that energy. No, I am not suggesting drugs.)

He killed everyone, stayed up all night, and then hung out with his girlfriend not needing/requiring any sleep. Hmm. I wonder if he was manic in addition to being evil.

I am always astounded when parents don't to catch any red flags in situations like this. From what we know so far, the parents were respected, involved in the community, responsible, etc. All things that would make one think they had much better odds of seeing something was going on with NG, something serious. At least IMO their odds of picking up on these things is greater than with some of the uninvolved or inappropriately involved parents we see so much of in these types of stories.

I am still floored by the 12 year old gf. My DD is 12, she has no boyfriend. Nor does she have an interest in boys at this point in her life. Boys according to her are "Stupid" and she is in no rush to begin dating them.
'
12?

Were her parents aware she was this kid's gf I wonder?

Still trying to absorb that NG and this child spent the day together after he murdered his family with NG debating whether to kill hers.

  • #117
Yea, I have no clue why 15 year old would be dating a 12 year old. Since they were hanging together, I presume parents knew.

  • #118
He was home schooled. I wonder if his home schooling consisted of sitting in front of a computer all day. I cannot imagine that the mother had anytime to provide education with the younger children

My DD is 15 now, but at 12 the only interest she had in boys was a crush on a fellow nerd in her class :giggle: I can't imagine her having had a boyfriend, then, never mInd one who was 15. Three years is a huge difference in maturity, knowledge, and sexual development at those ages.

I wonder if he was a very immature 15, possibly due to lack of socialization?

Sad to say, I've had these thoughts from the beginning with the child abuse charges. And I do fear abuse of this 15 year old at the hands of former prisoners. And I do think his wearing of only camo was a "hello, do you see me waving this troubled red flag in your face every single day?", his silent but visible cry for help.

And what the heck were these people doing leaving unsecured guns around with not only children, but released prisoners living on their property?

Sadly, I bet they had ther unsecured guns as protection because of the ex-cons living outside. JMO
