Thanks Hollyblue, I saw that on the tv and have been looking for that picture. His pants are pretty dirty looking, could be from the take down, but could be from on the run?

Thank you. I lucked out.....not very good with pics. Maybe someone will come along and enlarge it. Did you notice they removed his pants before they strapped him in the patrol car! Wonder if he might have had an accident? :)

Self-Styled 'Bonnie and Clyde' Fugitives John McCluskey and Casslyn Welch Nabbed

After Eluding Authorities for Weeks, Escaped Con and His Fiancee Say They Were Ready for a Gun Fight

Post a Comment By CLAYTON SANDELL and LEEZEL TANGLAO
Aug. 20, 2010

The fugitive couple that some had called a modern-day Bonnie and Clyde was captured at an Arizona campground last night after a three-week cross-country manhunt.

John McCluskey and Casslyn Welch were taken into custody near the town of Springerville, Ariz., near the border with New Mexico. The duo told authorities that if given the chance, they would have shot it out with police.

The beginning of the end for the escaped Arizona inmate and his suspected accomplice, who had eluded law enforcement for weeks, came when a forest service ranger saw an unattended campfire and a silver vehicle at a campground in the Apache Sitgreaves National Forest.

I wouldnt want his dirty jeans on my car seats either.
I really got mad when I saw her perched up on the car like she was waiting for them to write her a ticket. Even he has a smug f it look on his face.

hmmm....that must have been live since it's not working for me anymore.

I watched CW give her basic information to the judge. She indicated that she had no prior criminal record. Gave her home address as in Payson AR. Responded "no" when asked if anyone else lived there. When asked if she had a job she said that she did, until recently (at Jake's Corner Store in Payson). Her demeanor was quiet and respectful.

She was lead out of the room and then JM was lead in through another door. I didn't see anything of significance after that.

"When she threw the gun down, one of my guys picked it up, unloaded it, removed it," Hogle said during a news conference in St. Johns attended by KRQE News 13. "One of the sergeants on scene said, 'Don't mess with that; could possibly be the murder weapon.'

"He (McCluskey) said, 'No. The murder weapon's over is in the tent.' So spontaneous utterances that he had committed the murder."

It appears there was a confession, of sorts, by McCluskey to the murders. It doesn't seem like a very clear one to me, though, since he didn't state what murder he was referring to.

Sorry to quote my own post, but I'm not sure if I missed it the first time, or whether it was added in the update to the article, but it appears the McCluskey definitely confessed to the Haas murders.

According to Apache County officials McCluskey said he alone killed Linda and Gary Haas, both 61, a vacationing couple from Tecumseh, Okla., whose remains were found Aug. 4 in the burned wreckage of their camper trailer on a ranch in northeastern New Mexico near Santa Rosa.

They forgot to add in the charges of animal neglect for leaving those poor babies alone in the desert.

have more detail about how they caught them. I love how they rushed the campsite in a pickup truck. :o) And I loved this:

"This is one of the biggest thrills of my life," said Hogle Friday morning. After nine years on the force and six years with the ACCENT team, he had been named its commander just a week ago."

I also liked in a comment section somewhere, where someone wrote, "Darn, they were taken alive."

There aren't murder charges either.

Too late to edit my post, so I'll correct it here. Obviously I was referring to Payson AZ, not Payson AR!

They are back in Mohave County now, and investigators are starting to piece together the murders.

Investigators seek clues in slayings

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — New Mexico investigators will spend the weekend in Arizona piecing together the gruesome killings of an Oklahoma couple after their suspected killers were captured after an intense manhunt.
Multimedia

When SWAT deputies from the Apache County Sheriff's office arrested escaped convict John McCluskey and fiancee Casslyn Welch near Springerville, Ariz., on Thursday, McCluskey alluded to having the weapon used to kill Gary and Linda Haas, of Tecumseh.
The Oklahoma couple's bodies were found in their burned out camper near Santa Rosa.
Both McCluskey and Welch are being held in an Arizona jail in lieu of a $1 million bond each. They were found near a car with stolen New Mexico license plates, police said.
Police would not say where in New Mexico the plates were from.
State police spokesman Lt. Eric Garcia said detectives were sent to Springerville to investigate the Haas murders and assist FBI in its investigation.
He said more investigators will be sent over the weekend.
"We have come across new information, but as of right now we're not releasing what that is,” Garcia said.
Forensic links
Few details about the murders of the Haases, both 61, have been released. But New Mexico State Police, who are heading the investigation, have confirmed there is forensic evidence linking McCluskey, Welch and Tracy Province to their murders.
Garcia would not elaborate on what type of forensic evidence police have, but said forensic evidence could refer to anything from DNA to ballistics.
