Details of Disappearance
Hernandez was last seen in Clovis, New Mexico sometime during December 1980. She has never been heard from again. Few details are available in her case. Both New Mexico and Texas authorities are investigating.

I came to see if Laura had been ruled out as Ventura County Jane Doe...I see it's been mentioned but she has not been ruled out. There is a gap in time that would usually make it an easy rule out...but I think it's worth looking into. (JMO) Laura was reported to be seen last "sometime in December 1980". If Laura has given birth, as was questioned up thread, I think it's even more of a possibility! Aside from the strong facial likeness, I compared the teeth of both Laura and VCJD and they appear, to me, identical. Carl's recon shows her smile and the way her teeth would naturally cause her lips to be slightly open when 'resting', perfectly. I've seen a couple of versions of a yellow shirt on VCJD, but the one in Carl's recon, with lace on the upper part, looks similar to the one that Laura is wearing in one phone. The way her hair is dyed. Identifiers are within the range listed for VCJD. Am I reaching??

Welcome to Websleuths! And thanks for joining in the discussion. I’m very sorry about your mother, hopefully someone here can help bring her home!

Have you been in contact with the agency in charge of your mother’s missing person case? According to her NamUs profile, they would be the Clovis Police Department. According to The Charley Project, there are two agencies involved with your mother’s case; Clovis and League City, Texas. If not, I’d recommend you contact them or her NamUs representative and inquire about DNA testing and Jane Does who have been compared to your mother.

Although NamUs has a “comparisons” tab (you must register an account with them and be logged in to see it) that shows who has been ruled out as being your mother, it’s not always accurate or up to date.

Your suggested match was previously submitted to Doe Network. We have a panel that looks at these matches and they declined to send the match into law enforcement because the timing would have been impossible and also, both the Jane Doe and Laura Hernandez had DNA available and it was felt that the CODIS system would have verified the match and there were no hits in CODIS.

I did some more research on Laura and found a few things on Ancestry and newspapers. Apparently she was born in Nicaragua on March 11, 1955. Her maiden name is Tijerino. Several sources cite her middle name as Marie instead of Maria. These articles give more details about her disappearance…
