So, wait, I'm confused. The child was reported missing on September 8 but has really not been seen since September 2nd?

Yeah... The Special Agent in Charge said at the presser that they weren't answering any questions, that today is for the mourning of Renezmae and offering condolences to the family.

So, looks like we have the article from Rio Grande Sun and that's it for today.

Especially strange since with that time discrepancy I don't really understand how LE had a press conference saying it wasn't a parent.

It's a time discrepancy on top of another time discrepancy! I was also surprised LE came right out and said they didn't think parents were involved when the girl was last seen at 9:30 in the AM and not reported missing for so many hours. Now it just got stranger with the school information.

Ugh, that poor girl. She looks so adorable in her photos.

Dear God, why? Why are so many child abused, neglected, kidnapped, murdered? Why? They're innocent and helpless against these brutes!

This is really angering me! How many every week now are we seeing "deceased" and "arrest(s)" in the titles of these threads?

Could be a story? I don't know anyone who doesn't physically exchange a child no matter who is picking up or dropping off. I'm doubting everything at this point except the teacher who called the Mom to say she was missing for three days (last day attended 8/29)

Gotcha. Well they did say mom reported it Sep 8th. They didn't say that's when she actually found out.

Calzada was first reported missing by her mother, Victoria Maestas, via 911 at 7:39 p.m., Sunday, dispatch records show.

“The father called her (and) said she has been missing since 9:30 a.m. this morning,” dispatchers wrote. “Malcolm Torres is the father. Father hasn’t reported the child missing and thought the (mother’s) family picked her up.”

Rio Arriba County Sheriff James Lujan confirmed at a Monday press conference that one person had been taken into custody, after first being held in investigative detention.

Malcolm Torres was taken into custody at the Dairy Queen on North Riverside Drive, shortly after Calzada was reported missing, dispatch records show.

Sheriff’s Office Deputy Dwayne Epling then took Torres back to the home on Arch Lane.

So Torres assumed that someone from his girlfriend's family just came and got their 5 yr old, but never told him---they just left with her?

Sheriff’s deputies and FBI agents were seen Monday in what appeared to be a search of a pickup truck in a fenced area near the Sheriff’s Office.

Wonder if any evidence was found in this truck?

I am utterly heartbroken by the news about Renezmae Calzada. My prayers are with all who loved her, & my thanks to the many dedicated first responders. As New Mexico is grieving this senseless tragedy, we must remember: Children deserve every protection we can provide for them.
