GUILTY NM - Renezmae Calzada, 5, found deceased, Rio Arriba County, 8 Sept 2019 *Arrest*

It's still a curiosity to me about the federal jurisdiction that has been applied for SW's. Were those to search on the SC Pueblo tribal shoreline of the river? Or does LE think a crime, such as murder, was committed on land where there is federal jurisdiction regardless of where the body was found? I do not believe the Torres family house on Arch Street is anything but a normal part of the city, county, state. I do think LE knows a whole lot more than they are letting on.

I had no idea.

"The Land of Enchantment isn’t living up to its name, unless you’re talking about criminals. New Mexico’s crime rates are much higher than national rates for both violent and property crime. The state weighs in with 9.57 violent crimes per 1,000 people, which is more than double the national rate of 4.49. And property crime is right behind, with 52.84 incidents per 1,000 people, compared to 27.11 nationally."

New Mexico's 20 Safest Cities of 2018

(Yeah I went down that same rabbit hole last night. There was one article I came across that had a “1 to forty something” ratio for stat on persons affected by violent crime, iirc moo. O/T, I also went down the dark road of reading about both human and sex trafficking and three major arrests that were made down there...)

I am so glad that your mama had that support from your son-in-law during that devastating time. I am sure she needed him and it was divine intervention. May your father RIP.

In the face of such a tragic loss, the fact that your son in law was the first responder must have been such a comfort to your Mama. A true blessing.

Beautifully said.

I think even if she started out trying to get to the river, she would have become lost and very distressed in short order. It was broad daylight; surely someone would have noticed a child in distress.

I think her body was placed in the river with the hope that the current would carry her far, far away.
Is that too dumb though? It seems like such a remote, small place for a stranger predator, but a river dump seems more like what a stranger would do than a family or friend. ... Thinking about your post, I just got that teenage boy predator vibe off of this case, like that little girl at the mobile home park in WA, Jenise Wright 2014, because of this hasty, sloppy disposal. So very sad.:(

This is very similar imo to Amiah Robertson’s case, as far as trying to nail down a timeline. I finally put one together with the all the conflicting accounts, etc and it was PAGES long...

Here I’m not sure if the variable accounts are coming from the parties themselves, or the media, considering LE really hasn’t said anything but about this. In Amiah’s case it was definitely coming from the parties themselves imo...I’d have to go back and read again about what’s coming from whom exactly.

I have followed along but this is my first comment.

It is like Amiah's in the sense of how long was it before she was reported missing, something like a week??

It also has shades of Maleah--RC here was not in school recently and Maleah was not in day care recently. Thank goodness with Maleah there was video of her alive or they may not know what they do know. In this case, it remains to be seen when this child actually went missing or was last seen independently if I understand correctly.

In Maleah's case, it was likely to cover prior abuse (the not going to day care) and I sure hope that is not the case here with not attending school.

I hope there is some video somewhere. I do not know where bf lived versus grandma lived but if this was a family area, the five year old may well have walked between the two homes on occasion? Then we may have a he said/she said.

Another bad ending. Hopefully they can determine the MOD and COD and prosecute yet another baby killer.

Smh.

All jmo.

Why Do Corpses Float?
John Staughton 2 years ago

Initially, bodies will likely sink to the bottom, but as bodies decompose and gasses are released in the body, the corpse will rise back to the surface as a result of buoyancy.

snipped
So the question is, was she alive when she hit the water or not?

did anyone happen to read the last paragraph of this article in the link?

If the rio grande is warm this may explain why it didnt take long for her body to float. bodies will float a lot faster in warm water: https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&sou...FjANegQIBBAB&usg=AOvVaw2xkihsfooIMtgWpcNSwUCJ

(it opens as a pdf so fyi... and i confirmed it is secure and legit)

Yes, this is why more bodies in water are found in Spring and Summer, as I mentioned a couple pages back. Bodies start rising to the surface as water temperatures rise; I remember us waiting and hoping for this in Dylan’s case.

In addition to the water temps and length of time in the water as related to the surfacing aspect, I also wonder how much her small size/weight factors in as a potential variable.

This is really horrible that we are having to even have this discussion right now btw, decomp aspects and variables on a 5 year old girl.

I’m grateful she was found though.

Well, even if the body sinks the current will move it. To be floating again would require decomposition to have enough time to produce enough gases. There is no way, short of the autopsy results to know just how long she was in the water.

The shortest distance to the Rio Grande from where she was allegedly last seen is about 1.7 miles. But given that she was floating and the Rio Grande flows south there isn't a reasonable way to know where she entered the river but it would have to be north of where she was found - wherever that was.

the current at the bottom is basically null compared to the surface. im thinking where she popped up and was found floating is not far from where she went in... unless that area has rapidly moving surface current?

So can we assume the autopsy is done and it's been ruled a homicide? BBM

I’d like to sincerely thank everyone for your kind words about my loss. They mean a lot to me. My son in law is a Lt. Firefighter & Paramedic with our local station. He responded to Mama’s 911 call night before last and found Daddy dead. Cardiac arrest. He cried with Mama holding her up the entire time until the Coroner came. I have the utmost respect for our Firefighters.

My heart, and warm thoughts continue for you, and your family.

I believe God put him there for your dear Mama. I know she felt with him being with her, she had someone beside her ..she knew would know the depths of her despair from losing your daddy.

Sudden death is such a shock to absorb, but when it sadly does happen their loved ones at least know they didn't go through long pain, and suffering for months on end.

I know your Mama will have all of you to lovingly support her in such a difficult time in her life with losing your daddy.

The longer they were married often makes it even harder for the living spouse left behind
to adjust.

My prayers are with you all.

There is no one I greatly admire more than firefighters, first responder EMTs, nurses, police officers, and our military. They truly our our selfless true heroes who live to save others, and bring comfort to those who have lost loved one.

Hugs

Imoo, as i read this earlier I realized that it didn’t necessarily mean that- if it wasn’t murder but rather death from neglect it would still apply- at least one adult is responsible for her death no matter how it happened.. I still believe she was indeed murdered however I don’t think we can put too much stock into that phrasing at this point.. unless I missed something! Moo.

I crossed the river a short while ago and it is Rio Poquito here in Albuquerque. It would not be chilly, even in Espy.

I wouldn't assume so, although I do think it will be determined that homicide is the MOD. MOO

Thank you. They were married 67 years. They were married on Daddy’s birthday. Tragically my two little brothers and young nephew were already in heaven waiting for him.

Yeah we know never to assume anything for sure but sure sounds like it, moo from that quote above.

Seems the quote is from the Lt. Gov..I would imagine he’s “in the loop”. Or is he just assuming without an official ruling? LE did say yesterday something similar.

Yeah, I agree we’re too professional here Pommy to not wait for an official ruling. :)

Let’s see what his duties are while we’re sitting around picking our noses:

ETA:

“In the United States, the office of lieutenant governor is the second-highest executive office in a state and is nominally subordinate to the governor. In the U.S., the main duty of the lieutenant governor is to act as governor should the governor be temporarily absent from the office. In addition, the lieutenant governor generally succeeds a governor who dies, resigns or is removed in trial by the legislative branch. In most states, the lieutenant governor then becomes governor, with the title and its associated salary, office, and privileges. In a few states, like Massachusetts, the lieutenant governor instead becomes "acting governor" until the next election.

Other than this primary constitutional duty, most state constitutions do not prescribe the duties of the lieutenant governor in detail.”

The lieutenant governor is elected on a ticket with the governor for a four-year term. This position was first filled by Ezequiel Cabeza De Baca on January 6, 1912, the year that New Mexico became a state. The current lieutenant governoris Howie Morales, a member of the Democratic Party.

That's so sad. My heart breaks for your Mama. My Mama passed away when she had just turned 57. She married young, and was married 40 years. My precious in laws were also married for 67 years before my father in law passed away, and it was such a trying difficult time for her for a very long time.

People who have been married as long as your parents have such an unbreakable bond. They usually marry young, and they really raise each other, and grow together as they raise their children.

I wish your mother love, and peace. She knows she stood by, and loved him to the very end of his earthly life, and knows he is with the rest of your loved ones in Heaven.

Nothing new here, but has that word “identify” I was referring to earlier made in yesterday’s PC / BBM:

Search for missing girl enters Day 4
Sep 12, 2019

(From the PC yesterday):
“"But I can assure you, this investigation has not stopped. We'll continue to work until we can identify the responsible party for Renezmae," Langenberg said.”

ETA:
I’m not too thrilled about this statement, btw. Hopefully a PC will clear this all up soon.

Imoo, as i read this earlier I realized that it didn’t necessarily mean that- if it wasn’t murder but rather death from neglect it would still apply- at least one adult is responsible for her death no matter how it happened.. Yes, after reviewing the roles of the Lt Gov, I’m not sure how directly active he is in this investigation.

I think the above quote “identify the responsible party” is quite telling though, imo. I hope they are close to an arrest.

We know to always expect a twist.
