I am in the same camp as Neil's pal Sherman quoted in the same news nation article :
“I’m just totally mystified. I have no understanding whatsoever how you can walk out your front door and vanish,” Sherman McCorkle told NewsNation. “Nothing makes any sense.”
SBM

I don't see all this mystery.
I feel like we have seen things that didn't make sense so many times in cases of missing persons, and then often things turned out to be simple in the end.
It's hard to know people's mental state and speculate about what made sense in their mind at the time, so many details may not add up to us.

Call me naive, but I'm still with Occam's razor on this one.

And we have NM's wife now sharing this:

".... [he] had never done anything “remotely like it before” and “doesn’t generally” carry a weapon... he’d been “saying if his brain and body keep deteriorating, he doesn’t want to live like that.”"

IMO, this case is simply as it appears.

I'm not familiar with her. Is she usually seen as non-credible?
She's a cash for comment talking head. The vast majority of what she says tends to be implausible theories based on scanty or inaccurate case knowledge, or so obvious general assumptions you could get them from your local cab driver or barfly.

Most cases that go national, she's out there commenting before the blood is even dry.

She obviously doesn't mind being wrong, because whatever she breathlessly asserts in the early hours often tends to be way, way off base. She uses her former profession (FBI) to give her opinions validity.

Read article.

She noted that his phone was turned off and left behind, which she explained “seems kind of deliberate because he’s always got his phone.” SEEMS KIND OF DELIBERATE?

She did note that he’d been “saying if his brain and body keep deteriorating, he doesn’t want to live like that.”

Appears more and more to be suicide.

NM was a very intelligent man, one who knew the outcome of his physical and mental deterioration. Most likely, he specked out where to go to not be found.

I would totally agree with the apparent indications of self-harm, but I still have questions.
How is it that his hiking boots were found at their second home? If he wasn't wearing those, then what shoes did he have on when he left? How many pairs of hiking shoes did this man own, that his own wife can't tell which ones are missing?
Did he purchase a special pair just for this day? Did he also have a special pair of eyeglasses he purchased especially for this final excursion?
This is why I'd really love to know more about his recent bank activity, and any recent purchases either in stores or online. I would bet there would be some clues in there that would give us a clearer picture of what he had in mind.

McCasland, 68, was the latest disappearance, vanishing without a trace on February 27, 2026, after reportedly leaving his home on foot with only a handgun.

The disappearance of McCasland, who reportedly held nuclear and UFO-related secrets, has been tied to Reza and Grillmair through their work on advanced missile or rocket science.

While commanding the Air Force Research Lab (AFRL), the general supervised and approved funding for Reza's work to invent a new metal used to create space-age rocket engines.

Meanwhile, Grillmair's work with NEOWISE and NEO Surveyor has also been linked to the Air Force, as the NASA telescopes used the same systems the military relies on to track satellites and hypersonic missiles.

This case, as well as related cases, could be in the interest of national security, yet there is more emphasis upon another current case. Sometimes there is no answer to why.

Daily Mail is taking a hard look at these possible connections.

Another person with links to America's nuclear secrets has gone missing as the disturbing list of deaths and disappearances in recent years continues to grow.

Steven Garcia, 48, vanished without a trace on August 28, 2025. He was last seen leaving his Albuquerque, New Mexico home on foot, carrying only a handgun.

An anonymous source told the Daily Mail that Garcia was a government contractor working for the Kansas City National Security Campus (KCNSC), a major facility in Albuquerque that plays a key behind-the-scenes role in America's national defense.

A lot of people are taking a closer look at these connections. It's hard to ignore, for sure.
